Abandoned Military Truck and Cabin Deep in the Canadian Woods | Destination Adventure

1944 Canadian right hand drive Chevrolet military truck, found in the remote forest of British Columbia. The first time I saw this truck was about ten years ago, and at that time I believe it had been sitting in that exact location for decades already. It is remarkable how little rust and how little change there has been, but I suppose things were just built that tough for the military.
The truck looks small now, but it has actually sunk a fair bit into the ground, and of course the tires are all gone now. The engine is still in the truck, minus the head, and the rest of the drivetrain is complete. All in all, it is a very neat piece of history sitting out there, and a vehicle that is far from a common discovery. There has been a lot of logging in this area over the years, so I am guessing that provided the road infrastructure to get a truck into this location, though today there is barely a hint of a trail. I believe the cabin is an old trappers cabin, but that has also sat vacant and abandoned now for decades.
Horsefly lake is a beautiful place to spend a little time and do some exploring, and I was delighted to meet some great local fans while in the area.

The truck is a WW2 era Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck. Commonly known as the Ford or Chevrolet Blitz here in Australia. The one in the video is a Ford due the flathead V8, Chevys had a straight 6.

I was actually in that truck when it was in really nice shape, that cabin is called Gun Smoke cabin and is the site of the largest grizzly being shot in the Cariboo by the owner of the cabin at the time, Clifford E Carlson, after it stalked him for days on end.I have a cabin a few kms from there and have been on the lake for 55 years

@@thereissomecoolstuff I'm not sure how to respond to this. Obviously you have not watched much of Dustin's adventures, his close work with bears is legendary and gripping video. Me? For 30+ years we have tent camped all over northern Vancouver Island (home), northern BC, Northwest Territories and Yukon and not once had a bad outcome with any bear, despite seeing many. Our record was 11 in one day on the Cassiar Highway, northern BC. You have trouble with bears at places like Yellowstone where folks feed them, leave garbage around, etc. Come up north, real true north and you will find very little bear/human interaction because we tend to respect the bears, the land and our place in it.

To add to the comments about the truck: It is a Ford 15 Cwt (Hundred weight (3/4 ton)) cargo truck from about 1942. Canada built nearly 1 million of these robust vehicles in sizes from 1/2 ton 4x2, to 5 ton 6x6 in support of the war effort against Germany and Japan. The were right-hand drive due to a British War Ministry specification to allow commonality amongst all the Commonwealth countries that used them, including Canada (of course), Australia, Britain, New Zealand, South Africa, India and many others. After the war, tens of thousands of them were donated to war-torn countries in Europe and the Pacific Rim, such as Holland, Norway, Belgium, France, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Malaysia, etc. In Canada many more thousands were sold off surplus and were popular with farmers, loggers, construction and mining companies as well as tow truck companies. Dollars to doughnuts it got there by driving across the ice in the winter. P.S. the 'cigarette lighter' is actually where a work light can be plugged in to work on the engine.

People Have picked over it and taken stuff away. There used to be some cool Traps hanging on the wall of the cabin. One of the comments mentioned the fact that the owner of the cabin had shot a very large grizzly. My dad was one of the first people to find him after that ordeal. He had been trapped in the cabin for three days and was very happy when my dad and his friend stopped by. Would have been around 1965.

With your video posting delay, I sure hope you got far enough north to be clear of the Ft Nelson wildfire. Fire storm season has started with a bang. Safe travels you two. 🤙🍁

Hello Dustin. My son and I in our little SUV briefly met you at the Wal mart in pg just before you were about to leave. He was so pumped to meet you again. He and a friend were on pedal bikes at the Co op last year the first time . He is going to be keeping his eyes peeled now! Was great to meet you for myself and also Emmy. anyways, safe travels again!

Another amazing production! There hasn't been a show where I didn't use shazam to hear who's cool voice that was, in your music selection. Very cool.

Hello from the south Okanagan where we hit 31°C today so spring has sprung or we hope so. Thanks for taking us along once more on your adventure. Had extended family that had a placer mine out there back in the day and they also chased moose there too back when. It's good to see Emmy along on the trip, we've found exploring with friends is usually more than double the fun. Lastly I enjoyed the choice and volume of your music again - well done. Safe travels you two.

And for the 15th plus time " THIS is my favorite video"! I love how you always have the mind engaged. From thinking about the beauty or mystery, we just saw to wondering what's around the corner. I'm in awe of waterfalls, the pretty face of a new traveling friend, old trucks and cabins to birds just doing bird things, and patrons dropping off beers for future discovery! Then right when im ready to end on a relaxing note, you put the boat motor in its own perfect compartment - like it's a standard feature. 😂😂😂 Just Awesome. Always.
