Abandoned Macy's Furniture Clearance - Columbus, OH
Ойын-сауық
Abandoned Macy's Furniture Clearance - Columbus, OH. Closed in March 2020, this was the Furniture store that remained open for awhile after the full-line Macy's closed at the Eastland Mall across the street. This was a former Lazarus. This building had some great aesthetics and architecture. Wonder what will happen to the building now.

Used to work in that building when it housed the clearance furniture store & the Columbus District Office. It was Lazarus first, then Lazarus-Macy's, the Macy's. The building is OLD. Wish you could see the bathrooms inside. The offices I worked in were more modern, then you walked through a door and stepped onto the sales floor & it was like you stepped back into the 60's/70's.
Yes, awesome find. Thank you for finding it. Those lamp posts are my favorite
Helicopter is cops, Columbus runs a lot of birds. The store was Lazarus furniture before Macy's (purchased Lazarus). Macy's/Lazarus was an anchor store in the Eastland Mall. Columbus had 4 big malls in 80's - 90's Northland, Eastland, Westland and Southland.
That furniture store is really big! The aesthetics are really cool! What a great find! Thanks Wallie! Have a KMartlicious!
good looking building ....that parking lot looks a lot like most roads in Pennsylvania
It sounds like that helicopter circling they were looking for a suspect because look at all of the sirens that was going on pretty wild that is a very interesting looking building to ...love your videos..Wow I love the chain on the door that was priceless I think one reason I love your videos so much hon is your sense of humor you make it more than just about looking at a building and that’s what sets you apart from the others and I loved your naming of the potholes that was great
Like those old buildings you don't see character that much in buildings anymore the all shoebox shape now
Back in the day it was the Lazarus furniture home store.
I spewed my drink across the room when u named potholes

LOL!
Was originally called "Lazarus Home Store", then Lazarus Furniture then Macy's Furniture Clearance.
Lazarus was the anchor at that mall that became Macy"s. So that may have been Lazarus" furniture store. When I was a student at OSU in the early 90s, Eastland was one of the best malls in the area and Lazarus was an anchor at the mall.
That parking lot reminds me of the Sky City store I used to work at back in the day.
I remember when that was a Lazarus furniture clearance stote
Can't even get a new mattress and new chair. Coming soon Wallie's Furniture and Restaurant. Haha 😄 Pothole patrol with Wallie.
Yeah that store closed last year, in fact my wife and I bought our bed room set there several years ago. They had really nice stuff and it was not too expensive.
This place was originally a Lazarus Furniture place based off of Flickr.
I'm glad u posted this so I didn't drive over there. I've bought a bunch of furniture there. Good prices.
Late to comment, but since you were curious, that definitely is an original a full on Lazarus department store from the early 60s. Their stores were known for the that light blue color. It wasn’t uncommon in the 50s and early 60s for the smaller regional department store chains to have a free standing modern department store independent of a mall, especially chains like Lazarus. A lot of times these stores would be a satellite building adjacent to a shopping plaza or open air mall. Sometimes they’d even proceed an actual enclosed mall that would be attached onto the store after the fact like the Lazarus at Westland Mall in Columbus. It also wasn’t uncommon for these freestanding department stores to become home furnishing stores, and clearance stores in later years when larger chains like Penny’s, Macy’s, and Sears acquired them. We had a regional chain in VA called Thalheimers and another called Miller & Rhoads that built a lot of really cool looking free standing department stores in the 50s and 60s. A lot of them are still standing and in use today. I know of a nearby Miller & Rhoads that still retains most of its original 1950s decor and has seen use as a little bit of everything from flea market to government offices. Seems like no matter who occupies that building it always gets repainted its original 50s color scheme.
There is an empty toys r us about 1 mile north of there and an old mill with a bunch of train tracks. South from that Macy’s location is the old Kmart warehouse they are refurbishing now. The mall had Sears, jc penny and a Macy’s. They furniture store Macy’s and Macy’s in the mall were both open at the same time, Macy’s in the mall closed 4 to 5 years ago but thee furniture store was open till first lockdowns started.

There's so much on Hamilton there. The old Kohl's, Staples, etc. The Saraga International Market that never opened. Front Room. Hechingers. And on and on. What about Sofa Express down past 33?
@dan8220

@@elliotfineberg9503 oh yea that sofa express went out bout 4 years ago and sat empty for a while then CWI Gifts came in and fixed it all up. They built 2 massive warehouses behind the old Kmart DC another 2 massive warehouses between s Hamilton and gender road. And that old golf driving range by 33 is now got a moo,moo car wash an Aldi and huge apartment complex!
You can never get a pizza, now you can't get a sofa. You discovered where Optimus Prime's trailer goes!
That possibly could have been Joseph Horne’s which was bought out by Lazarus
That is a really cool old 60s store I love that architecture very cool looking been kind of cool if you got into the store but that's okay you just tell this place screams the 60s
Like you always say WallieB26 if it's meant to be it's meant to be and you were meant to find and explore this place
Definitely love the architecture in this one, definitely can see a little bit of the Lazarus label scar very cool find wallie. Naming the potholes now lol 😆. Have a good day
Thanks for sharing this one Wallie This is for sure a different macy`s then other building i been too.
Back in 2017 I visited Eastland and saw this place. The Macy's at Eastland was already closed, so I think I just assumed their Furniture Clearance store would therefore be closed as well. Guess I was wrong!
That was a heilig meyers store before
nice
This was the Lazarus headquarters!
Helicopters are annoying. That helicopter was annoying Wallie.
Yes. It was Lazarus before Macy's bought them out. This particular furniture store was amazing. I purchased my parents a member of Tiffany lamps from here. My sister and I even went through the Macy's drivers Ed classes. They had absolutely fantastic clearance items. This was one of many iconic locations in Columbus. It has been closed for a year to date. Thr Eastland Mall across the way is another iconic location. Great times....Great memories 💯
I have the 40 inch version of that Vizeo 4k as my Desktops Monitor for editing my videos.
It was a great store. It’s a cool building, originally a Lazarus. Wonder how long it will stand. Your videos are recording history. Love it! Thanks
Very cool retro building and the alarm tape around the windows
Looks like something right out of the 1970s or 80s, in my opinion.
Front exterior looks like Kraynak’s
That be one big Ollie's be cool or dollar tree
Building definitely was something else before it was a Macy's
What’s Macy’s Furniture clearance? Sounds cool!
@OnyxDash

Macy's Furniture Clearance was a clearance version of their Furniture Galleries. I believe this was one of their only clearance centers.

@@OnyxDash I think there’s a store in Pittsburgh at the Ross Park Mall. It’s not in the actual mall, but it’s in a building across the parking lot. 🙃🙃.
This place would make a cool restaurant. Would make a cool 60's themed restaurant.

@Alpha Omega For the aesthetics. Doesn't matter about people being teens from back then. Matters about if the food is good or not.

@Alpha Omega I still say this would be wrong. In Waverly, Ohio, there is a 1960s themed diner. It still operates to date and is packed. They don't have any part inside of them that plans to close it.
I went to that Macy's Furniture Store back in 2011 or 2012 due to its interesting architectural design. It never really had that many customers, then again it's a furniture store. The Main Macy's was a Kaufmann's built in 2005-ish, and the Blue Brick structure was briefly occupied by Macy's before they merged with Kaufmann's. It was previously a Lazarus.
Good segment Wallie
Hey WallieB26 nice work on the video
Cool..Never got to go there or go inside of of it. Good vidow clip Wallie.
What a cool find! 😀 That is a great abandoned place! ❤😘👍 Thank you so much for an awesome video! I appreciate it, Wallie!
Faded out stop sign? I vote not. 😚
But that parking lot needs help real bad!
Awesome video man
I wonder if this was a grocery store to start with, before Macy’s; out here in CO where I am there’s a building that is similar to this-once was a Safeway, then a furniture store, then a business-equipment place until about 18-24 months ago, then about six months ago it opened as some kind of either building-supply place or such.
I could actually make out where it said “Lazarus” at 9:50
Hey as long as you have fun naming the potholes Wally that's all that matters and it's also funny to watch and thank you for that information on what they would do to your car
WallieB26, what an awesome and cool abandoned Macy's furniture store! Really loved and enjoyed it!
This one gave off a school vide. Maybe someone could repurpose it as a school.
Lazarus/macy's furniture clearance has been closed a year and did not finish the liquidation of the store thanks to covid-19 pandemic.
it looks like old grocery store
Wallie -- that was a full-line Lazarus Furniture Gallery which was the companion of the full-line Lazarus store across the road at Eastland.
Wally! Love the sunglasses your rocking them lemme know you come to Alabama I’ll show you several abandoned places!! You rock Wally
That helicopter is probably a news helicopter
Just found out kmarts are still open in the Florida keys! At one non closing right now in key west!
Building looks kinda like an old school montgomery wards department store from the late 60's early 70"s
Wallie, I got some stuff puffed marshmallows today at Walmart. Oh my god so good! I got a whole pound of chicken too ranch style! 😋 and watermelon Mountain Dew!
Good video keep up the good content :) wallie,
Interesting Macy's building I've never seen one like that I don't live in Columbus Ohio but I haven't been in a Macy's store for a while
@Ryan-yw8iz

Yeah since I could remember that’s been Macy’s furniture only. The mall across the street had the clothes and all. I live 15 minutes or so away.
Wow I had no idea that there was partnership nice
Hey again wallie other ideas I have for this place are a laundry mat or a roller skating rink with snack bar and a mini arcade or a workout gym hope y'all love my way cool ideas

There's actually a roller skating rink right down Refugee Rd from here.
I could not help but laugh when you name the pot hole
That building could be used for the homeless in the area.
the outside has the vibes of an elementary school :P
I came just because you're in Columbus, OH. My Blood contains a LOT of OHIO... O-H!!!

Maybe it was a different place , before Macy’s furniture store came in
the potholes in the parking lot look big enough to swallow the Z
Helicopters and police? Welcome to the east side of Columbus.
Hey wallie wouldn't this be a way cool place for an indoor flea market or junk store or a thrift store anyone else agree click like and leave a comment below thanks love all your videos and love y'all lots like family and may God bless y'all always and forever and always keep y'all extra safe and healthy these days hope to hear back from you guys soon
That comment at 11:34 Wallie, Did you just come out? Completely straight guys don't say things like that. lol
And sadly there are probably a LOT of abandoned businesses in Ohio
Goldsmith Lazarus bomache Broadway and Bloomingdale's are all Macy's corporation they were under the federated corporation name many years ago there was many stores in other states there were Macy's then each state had like a Broadway a Lazarus Goldsmith or a bomb or Shay which was a part of the corporation and in the mid-90s early 2000s they started taking all those name labels and making them one Macy's and that is the Macy's Midwest region you're in I'm in the western region I was an employee for Macy's West but Macy's Riverside the West included all of the stores in Southern California Oregon Washington Nevada and Arizona that was the west region and the Midwest region was stored in South Dakota North Dakota Minnesota Michigan Ohio and Idaho region then you have the Northeast region which is all the Northeast stuff then you have the southwest region which was Florida and all those places then you have the lower Midwest region the west region or the south west region as they would have called it which was Texas which was Oklahoma Tennessee and things like that they were all under the federated name and brought together early 2000s because when they bought out Robinson's May here in California it was Robin's Brothers had bought May company and called it Robinson's May and when Macy's corporation bought it when I worked for them it was just called Macy's and that corporation was done with except for us incorporating some of the brands they might have sold to keep some of their customers so that's a little bit of the history and did you know that two of the original people who started the Macy's corporation were on the Titanic when it sank and they ended up dying so that's your bit of history
Yup that's why it's out back thrown out Cause it's a Vizio they are Garbage.. Samsung or Sharp or a Tcl. Will last longer that that thing any day..I know cause I do Tv Repair so it's your call now a days any way the old Lcd's are so much easier to fix than this new crap there making..
