It’s a shame that people go into these abandoned places trashing and disrespecting. I’ve been at abandoned places also seeing stuff tossed all over including a beautiful vase smashed to the floor. One place we went to my friends and I picked up paper tossed everywhere. Please if you’re exploring abandoned places respect the place… someone in the family does own the home and for some reason decided not to do anything in hopes the city or county will do something. Thanks Steve for respecting this beautiful home.

Never could understand why people would leave so much of their belongings behind, especially all the family photos and why hasn't anyone from the family come and collect any of the stuff. Just don't get

Well, my best friends great uncle was a millionaire and was also part of a gang. I can’t recall specifically what happened but him and his wife had to flee over night.. they took few clothing and few valuables. They did not have any children together but they both have passed away, his mansion has been abandoned and for couple of years people had a close eye on it to see whether or not he comes back but he never did. It had been untouched for either 20 or 25 years I can’t remember.

When you get very sick nothing matters but staying alive. Material items mean very little when you're dying. Sometimes you're too ill to get your trailer so you have to sell it at a discount. It's very sad but it happens, I know.

Steve, thanks for making it to Portugal! The Portugal series, thus far, has to be one of my all time top 5 abandoned explores on the web The architecture, furniture, colors, hand carved wood all have a beautiful mysterious but familiar magical old world gypsy feel to it. Definitely stands apart from other European countries. Super big thank you for this series! It rocks! 🙂 Yes, do more videos in Portugal!!!!

Steve, this was one of your best explorations ever. I was so glad it wasn’t destroyed with graffiti. The care and respect you show for all the properties you visit is impeccable. I really enjoy the passion you have for the architecture and the craftsmanship that went into making these homes a masterpiece of undeniable beauty.

Do you know any of the history of the house? It is a beautiful home. It’s strange how things were thrown on the floor in many of the rooms. It can’t believe how beautiful the architecture is.

Steve….Your work is amazing! I’ve been following you for 2~3 yrs now. You never disappoint. Thank you. This mansion is a time stand still. Beautiful and sad. Someone lived there for a very long time and raised their family there. It’s a shame the family isn’t interested in it. So sad a family who worked hard and made it a home and here it sits. Thank you! Looking forward to the next one! ✌️

I've been told that property in Portugal and land remain in the family for generations without the fear of government taxes confiscating their rights of ownership after death. Here in the United States, the government forecloses on the property, for taxes. Most American families lose inherited property that way because the taxes are too steep. That's what happened to my great grandparent's farm in Catawissa, Pennsylvania. The government does not inform a family until it's too late and they take it over. I was wondering if there was any electricity still working. I know they keep it on in other European countries and never shut it off.

Again, the chamber pots weren't just for elderly people. They were for everyone. They didn't have indoor plumbing. Or when the bathroom was too far from the bedroom and they didn't want to travel there at night if it was dark if it was cold if they were elderly as well. But many of them got used to using chamber pots before they had indoor plumbing.

If you notice the doors and paper work on the floor was like someone was looking for important documents, maybe a will, bank statements something of value. Look like the attic was the servant quarters. Back when these houses were were working homes the potty stand was for everyone because there was not plumbing bathrooms and also washing basins were in the bedrooms for all to clean before bed and morning to wash face, not just old people. This was a beautiful house in it’s time.

Being a Portuguese I can perhaps have a different vision of the things we've seen in this beautiful mansion. No one doubs they were a wealthy family and they had an incredible good taste. I believe that the African and Asian objects are related to the fact that Portugal had colonies overseas, and perhaps some of the family members could have been in those places for some time or were gifts from friends who had been there. The decorated walls were common in Portugal by that time in rich houses or those owned by the Nouveaux Riches. I myself lived in one of those houses and the walls were painted as to imitate marble. The small rooms in the attic were the servants' bedrooms. Great video Steve!

this home appears to belong to a Salvadoran or Spanish family, the mirror that you showed that looked what you thought to be Asian is actually styled to look like a hand held fan which was common for Salvadoran or Spanish during that time Era to use, not necessarily that they had an interest in Asian fans, madams would carry fans and use them in public at times. Pictures of family also suggest that ethnicity as well as the furniture. The bedroom on the first floor was used for sick family members, most wanted to be able to promptly remove the corpse once they passed but also make it easier for family & friends to visit before they pass. In it's day, this home would have been breath taking & full of life. loved this explore

I heard someone say something, about when you heard footsteps. I thought you had someone up there with you.
