Yes there is always a sadness with abandoned homes and tragic circumstances also have happened for a lot of these places to become abandoned. I mean who is paying the property taxes ? I knew here in United States the state will take the places for back taxes and they advertise them in the local paper Incase some relatives may know of the place to step up and pay the taxes. Same thing with the power left on at some of these places someone has to be paying the electric bill or it would get unhooked unless there may be family alive just to many bad memories to go back to them they just don't make any since to let such beautiful homes go to complete decay for no reason. If there is a relative alive descendent if they don't want them sell them and not let them go to ruins.

How heartbreaking to see this beautiful place not being lived in & loved. If it were my family home, I would have such a connection with it & to the family members who are gone. It shouldn't fill the daughter with sadness, but with joy to be there keeping her family's memory alive. It's in such a charming setting, like a storybook house.

Exactly right. When my grandaddy passed in 1981, the roof on his southern plantation house collapsed within a year or two. Had nothing to do with not having heat/cool as he never used air conditioning (ceilings were 20-25 feet high) and only heat in the kitchen and his bedroom. Always resented my mom and aunt gutting the place and selling the farm instead of moving in and letting us boys age another 7 years so we could decide if we wanted to continue the farming/cattle/timber tradition. Everything was in trust to us grandchildren because he knew mom and my aunt were foolish with money, somehow they managed to break the trust and liquidate everything at the lowest price they could get fast.

A brilliant find in the highlands of Scotland, A mansion on the edge of a large lock,I found a similar house on a 3 month trek exploring Scotland highlands in 1971,An old vicarage left empty for decades? Stayed there 4 two weeks, Water left on, Used the working arga, And had a roaring fire going in a large open fireplace every night, Cryed my eyes out when I left, Never found a place with such peace and quiet since!!! Love Scotland 😀🇬🇧👍

The family who lived in that house must have had a beautiful life. I would just love to be sitting on that garden seat, my husband with his Guinness (which he loves) and me with a g&t. I could literally look at that view from dawn to dusk....even if it was only a cup of tea I had in my hand. What a pity no one bought it who would love it and take care of it. 🥰😍

WOW just wow!! I must admit I wasn't impressed with the downstairs but when you went up that beautiful staircase I was blown away! The furniture and paintings were amazing, I expected to see more older items but I guess that's probably what they had stored away upstairs. The size of this place was unreal, I did not expect it to be as big as it was. Imagine being a kid living here, there's so many places to play hide and seek 😊 Olaus was a very blessed man!! It's just a shame he passed away 6 days before his 88th birthday. Oh and I have to say that kitchen was very dreary and creepy, I did not like it. This place was amazing with such an amazing view to go with it! Looked like there wasn't another house for miles and miles around. Thank you for this adventure, Dave, it's just a shame Mark wasn't there to enjoy it with you. 💜💜

In some places it still looks pristine. I do hope the daughter will see past her sorrow to the joy that it brought and the legacy that was created for Mr. Olaf's heirs. My ancestors are buried on family land that immigrated from Scotland in the 1700's. We are now in our 10th generation in the United States on my father's side.

How extraordinarily sad and tragic to see something once so cared for to fall into ruin without a backwards glance. It appears that the granddaughter stayed on for about 3 years after her brother died. What a huge undertaking it would have been to care for such a large house already falling into disrepair. Probably more out of necessity than desire, she left to spend her own end of days elsewhere. Things are just things. Love is forever.

Outside it is lovely with the sight and the sound of the sea. Bu the inside of that home is dark and depressing. The decor is similar to a lower middle class home. There is very little natural light. There is something oppressive and heavy about it. I'd get the heck outta there too.

@@lorraine9242 It is a very substantial house for a farm house and typical in the decoration of its time. The the rooms are large, and the windows are also a typical size, they did not build houses with large windows as they let in the cold and it would have been extremely cold in winter being that close to the water. The furniture is very old and would have been worth something these days if looked after. I would love to live there if the house was habitable. But it is far too big for one person to look after and maintain.

What a beautiful location of the house priceless with this view. Enjoyed watching all the way through, a House full of history and memories. Seems like even the house might deteriorate, what stands is that he who lived in it was a respected person in the area and keeps remembered. Because when I die I would want to be remembered for who I was, not for how my house was or materials. Maybe on day this place finds a new owner or someone how rebuilds a house there …. in the quiet of the land… away from the business of life.

I can’t imagine never wanting to go in my parents home I lost my dad last year and love thinking of him sitting on the sofa or getting a beer from outside when I’m there so sad their children couldn’t face it, I love that the neighbours still look after the land shows what a nice family they were

Wow, it's amazing! There are too many treasures to mention without creating an essay. It was emotional for me, seeing Mr. Olaus in his kilt as an elderly gentleman with his wife. Legs no longer straight and strong but proud. I am of confirmed Scottish descent not that it matters, our seniors are the jewels in our society. This is my favorite property. The living room I can imagine on a cold day, the colors painted exactly the color I would choose. All the books, lovely novels ready for reading. The beautiful furniture. The drawing room with the chaise lounge by the window with the view of the river, reading with the breeze flowing in or someone playing the violin put away so eloquently with the piano. Even as an adult I would spend hours outside exploring the outdoors and riverbanks or gardening. Yes I could imagine every nook of that home in its prime spent with my soul mate, chasing my children until I drew my last breath. I hope that it's location remains undiscovered and that the daughter will find strength to go in. As their belief in Christ, they are united with their Creator and each other, a joyful time for the weary. This was the legacy Mr. Olaus left to his heirs. Thank you for sharing a beautiful journey full of big and small treasures. Take care, stay safe and God bless everyone! xoxo 💖 Always, Kat (found Poppy) - maybe it did turn into an unintentional essay

Thank you for this video. I love old abandoned homes, I've never physically been inside one, and these videos give me the chance to explore them. I must say I felt a tinge of guilt and fascination at the same time as you explored from room to room. Kinda felt like I was invading the homeowners privacy. Do you ever hear from the family members after you post your videos. This kinda made me sad as well. I wonder will his children or grandchildren will ever empty these treasures from this home and cherish them inside of their home, to carry on the legacy. Who wouldn't love to have those beautiful portraits hanging in their home? Thank you for this video, it was such a beautiful thing, in so many ways.
