Abandoned Greek Orthodox Church in Detroit
Ойын-сауық
The final service was held in 1977. The church was severely damaged in a storm resulting in the complete abandonment of the church. In 2009 the copper was stripped from the dome of the building which let water pour inside causing the church to rapidly deteriorate. A newer Church was built in 1976 to replace this one.

I’m Greek, and this is really sad to see. Greek churches are so beautiful especially because of the iconography inside. I’m not surprised this one in Detroit is abandoned cause Detroit used to have a very large Greek population, but a lot more now live in either Tampa or Chicago

I am Greek Orthodox also, I grew up in the Greek church and did so many activities there. The architecture of this church reminds me of the church I grew up in. This makes me very sad.

This was my home church from birth until I was 15. My family was born and raised at this church. Sad to see
Doing a minor amount of research online, I believe this was originally the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. The first service in this building was on Palm Sunday 1950 and at one point served over 750 families. They relocated to Westland in (I think) the mid 1980s and two other churches used the building until each of them folded.
I’m Greek Orthodox, and I almost wanted to cry when I watched this.

As Roman Catholic it also hurts. We’ve been through bad times before. The church will endure

It's beyond sad to see these beautiful structures fall apart like this. Churches will never duplicate these. The cost alone is beyond the ability of any congration to finance. Once these are gone, they're gone...😢
My brothers wedding was the last wedding at this church in 1991. I was baptized here.
This is such a unique channel. I grew up in the midwest in Chicago and this brings back such nostalgic memories. Thanks for doing this! My favorites are schools, homes and churches
So sad to see. I used to admire that church in the 60's when I went to FOCH Jr. High across the street which is now gone, and Southeastern High school across the street. I was married there in 1977 and back then there was a nice membership. I remember The Watchman.... It was a beautiful church. Now I only have my wedding photos to remind me if it's beauty.
Sad to see what has happened to industrial cities in the Midwest
Lord have mercy
look for the tunnels
Just imagine the amount of weddings, baptisms, funerals, and so forth were done inside this church. A weekly service of worship as well. Sad the iconography is barely noticeable. The amount of time and workmanship put into the painting of the icons and to see it decaying is sad.
Yes, really a sad end for a fine legacy of faith. Obviously, this magnificent structure (beyond repair) will have to be demolished. But by whom and how funded? Detroit city is in sad shape these days....barely keeping afloat.
Hard hats and steel toed boots please. Lol. I wonder what the glory days of this church were? Incredibly beautiful I'm sure. The remains are incredible. Wow! Thanks be careful! ❤️
Fyi, i sub this channel but didn’t see any videos in my sub feed for a long time until this video. KZread algo sucks. Looks like the last videos i saw were ones uploaded 8 months ago when you were in illinois.

So that’s why people keep complaining that I’m not making videos when I am. I’m always like I’m making video but you’re not watching them 🤣🤣
6:25 That looks like one of the Old Testament prophets. Christ would have been in the center of the dome.
Surprised the church wasn't torn down and just left to rot away
Sad to see. Lord have mercy.
That's way cool. I like the intro. You guys ever go to Nebraska? I have a spot you guys should check out.

Just Illinois and surrounding states for now!
the moss and the graffiti with it only being lit by the sun adds a new form of beauty to it
