Abandoned- Grand 1935 home with old English/arts n`crafts/art deco themes. Nice 2nd level addition
Hey house lovers and explorers! This is the follow up video from last week where I take you through the neighboring home of two classics that are being demolished in favor of a huge town house complex. This home was built in 1935 and this style is often referred to as Art deco here in Adelaide but it is also a classic take on the old English and Arts and crafts styles of those eras gone by. I have also heard people refer to these type homes as Story book cottages and I know of some other pretty elaborate ones that sure fit that description. The classic steep pitched gables and contrasting brick corbels are very distinct to the 30`s here in Adelaide and the art deco facade found on so many homes from the 30`s which also includes the staggered chimney design that also went right through in to the 50`s. The last few minutes of the video will show the salvage process and what had been taken and stripped off only days after recording the initial explores. Hope you enjoy this grand old home :-) Facebook link- / urbex.indigo

I'm so sick of these gorgeous homes being replaced by ugly, cheap, boxes with windows. This is one reason I moved out to the country. The thought of living on top of each other really makes me cringe. So glad you got to record them before they're gone.

Liana Palumbo We purposely moved to a suburb with decent sized blocks and houses that weren’t just about touching each other. 3 years later, 2 houses across the street from us have been demolished and the land subdivided into 6 blocks not much over 300 square metres each. We are now going to overlook 6 concrete boxes standing shoulder to shoulder and blocking most of our beautiful view. 😡 our next move will be to the country on at least 2 acres in an area with no subdividing allowed.

Tracey Bradshaw where about you live? I’d try to google earth it. I’m from Montreal, so there is very little of old English homes left. Historical homes are usually left to abandoned and demolished so that land developers can build condos that fall apart in ten years. All in the name of progress and taxes.

Steven Hombrados I live in Adelaide, South Australia, where Urbex Indigo films most of his videos. Lots of houses being demolished here for new development. Unfortunately the land itself is worth more when subdivided and rebuilt on. There are stamp duty concessions and other current government cash incentives here for people who build new homes - it’s to boost the building industry, but land in the suburbs relatively close to the city is hard (impossible) to find unless you demolish existing properties. Some are beyond salvage but some of the more attractive heritage homes are a terrible loss. I read a very sad book a while ago called Lost Adelaide by Michael Burden which recorded many of the beautiful old buildings and homes demolished in the name of progress over the years.

@@traceybradshaw I too lived in Adelaide and couldn't handle all the redevelopment going on. Moved out to Mid-Murray region and I love it. Fixing up an 1858 Bluestone home and once I'm able to am going to look for a larger property. This one is 2 acres. I would absolutely recommend moving out, best decision I ever made👌🏼

Such a beautiful home...all the beautiful wood and they are just going to tear it down...this is so sad...doesnt anyone care about history and architecture in Australia? Some of these homes should be preserved....its just shame they will put up crappy apartments with no personality no differences....they will all look the same....it really is a shame they are taking down these places for modern crap that has no originality....I cant think of the word right now but its just so sad
That's a beautiful house it's really sad how they're going to tear it down
Those chimes in the hallway are attached to a doorbell. There was one in my old family home very similar.

I agree....we live in a 1930s home that was going to be demolished.....nope....couldn't let that happen. 35 years later and we r almost done with it and have 3 acres of gardens. There was even a gazebo in the garden we had repaired. Don't make them solid like our house any more. All these young couples want cookie cutter tract homes with no character! We have all the original molding and a back staircase off the kitchen. I love my house
When I first saw the yard, I was thinking how it was mostly cement and brick. I just LOVE the kitchen in this house! This house is beautiful! I wish people would stand up to developers and keep these homes standing! Really sad that money talks and these homes are being torn apart.

Absolutely everything in that place is worth taking. The floorboards, fire places, fans, lights, ceiling roses, curtains, kitchen cupboards, etched doors, lead windows and the old door chime. Wow, I can't believe they are pulling it down. There was nothing wrong with it. I didn't see a single crack in the walls. It's a pity this one has to go. :'( I would have loved to live in it. The other one wasn't as good as this one.
Surely not abandoned. It’s a dream home to me! It says welcome.

That etched frosted glass on the doors reminds me of my Grandma’s door to her living room! (Wow! I had totally forgotten about them till seeing those!)
You can tell the garden was meticulously trimmed and maintained, the Door went first to avoid damage. They really went for the high ticket items and left the other more difficult things for afters. What was housing for two families will become condos for twenty. @ 10 X the old property values and triple the taxes. What a home that had been. Sorry to see it go. Can't imagine what the replacement will do to the remaining neighborhood. Breaks my heart. Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh, I like that upstairs bedroom so much. Especially the walk in wardrobe and bathroom. I wanna live there and lookout the balcony to beautiful view.
Thanks Urbex Indigo for another interesting explore of a most beautiful mid 1930s home. What a sad waste that this grand art deco period home is being demolished. This spacious home has the most beautiful interiors with original art deco doors, architraves and floorboards. It appears the bathroom downstairs was renovated late 1990s, along with the kitchen and the extensions completed around the same time. The front entry brickwork looks like had repairs due to the different colour mortar to the rest of the other brickwork. The gardens were so beautiful and this home appeared to be once well loved and in excellent condition. The answer to your question regarding the object hanging in the hallway. Those are door bell charms.

This one broke my heart. Thanks for the tour of these lovely old homes.
Lovely home, a bit of a maze though, so sad they are being destroyed. Thanks for the explore!
That "chime" is a doorbell! What a beautiful home by the wy. So sad that developers can't keep these homes preserved as they're built so beautifully and our future generations will never know how amazingly creative these homes used to be :(
What a gem! glad you finally got in! I would so live in this house!, its not a chime its actually doorbell we had alot of homes in the US especially in my area alot of homes were built with them youre not far off yes its a chime for the door lol
NO NO NO!!!! This is an amazing home and it would truly be a crime for developers to tear it down for the sake of a newer building. I think this is my favorite of all the homes you have video’d for us all (and you have been busy)! I would love to live in a home with this much character! What a shame.
Why must it be torn down? What a gorgeous old home. I would love a home like that...
I loved this house. All the old built ins. You just don’t find that today.
Such a shame, it’s a beautiful house with so much character - I would love it as it is! Unbelievably gorgeous floors!
It should be criminal to tear down such lovely historical homes. I'm glad you got to record it and that as much as possible will be salvaged. Once the lovely parts are scattered the beauty of the whole will still be lost.

Far more beautiful than a lot of houses on the market!!!😍
This place is a gem!
I love that house , the wood work is gorgeous, thank you for filming after a hard days work. If only a house could talk .The A.A. serenity prayer.
1935 home it's a electric ding ding door bell. Beautiful deep sound. We had one in the first home we build Beautiful homes need a loving family. Thanku. Indigo
Really, really sad to see this house gone, it’s beautiful and big. Too bad. Thank you!!!
I think that’s a door bell notice. If I sold my home for demolition I could never return to the site. Too many memories evaporated. Enjoyed these homes.
Love the door chimes. The neighborhood I grew up in every house had those. Some were prettier than others. I am surprised that a upscale neighborhood wouldn't fight to keep apts out. The most desirable neighborhoods are the ones that have kept their charm and character. Which in turn ups the price of your property. Thanks for sharing.
Such beautiful homes, so well made, with character, great style and quality, and lovely vegetation! It's so sad they're gone. They were lucky though to get such a nice visitor on their last days, to appreciate and document them. Thank you! Oh, girls play basket too, you know 😊It could have been a girl's bedroom!
With all that remodelling done in that house, it's hard to believe it's going to be demolished. It looks like someone could just move in and live there. Sad to see these beauties destroyed. Such is life.
This house has me in tears! It’s so lovely, in great condition and with such beautiful gardens. I’m just at a loss to understand this. Just so very sad - it was so well cared for and now to end like this? 😢
It's distressing to see the destruction of these old beauties. The one you were in this day was a large, grand home. There must have been a relatively large family living there and I can see the value that must have been attached to the place. Thanks for getting inside for us before this beauty was gone.
I will never understand why they tear down these perfectly sturdy solid homes and beautiful too by the way . In order to put up apartment buildings that will most likely fall apart sooner than later !
Beautiful wooden floors, fabulous etched glass and lovely ceiling details made such a nice home. So sad it has to be demolished along with the loss of trees - criminal if you ask me. The chimes on the wall were for the door bell - very common once upon a time. Thank you for saving the memory.
Tudor windows, beautiful red and flintstone bricks, and superb brickwork these homes should be listed buildings but sadly they will be lost forever
What a nice house, shame to demolish a perfectly good home. 🌹

@traceybradshaw

As neighbours we don’t get a chance to object because the suburbs are zoned for renewed housing. Unless the house is heritage listed (very few are) people can demolish and subdivide within the council guidelines. We have had 2 houses demolished across the road from our house and they will be replaced with 6 new homes. The 6 new blocks are just over 300 square metres each which is the minimum for our council area. This means we will probably have 6x 2 storey houses (up to 9m high) staring into the front of our home which once faced the almost windowless side and garage doors of our neighbours single large house. We contacted the council and we have ZERO ability to object anything. They don’t even have to have obscure glass in their upstairs windows which will look straight into our bedrooms, because we are on the other side of a narrow suburban street. We also bought this house for the view, which we are probably going to lose a good portion of (nothing you can object about in our council area). We have now ordered plantation shutters for all of the front windows of our house so we can have some privacy and not have to look out at 6 concrete boxes standing shoulder to shoulder across the street 😢

Very beautiful house that should be lived in and loved.
Many beautiful features on this home, thanks again for catching it before it is demolished. What makes me irritated about them putting in massive condo's or apartments, they are squeezing the population into smaller areas and taking all private land from the people. It's the 1%'s that don't want us regular people to have anything, now we can't even freely breathe fresh air.
We had doorbell chimes like that in one of our homes that was built in the 40’s. Sounded nice too. Sad to see nice homes destroyed for soulless townhouses! I'm a New Subscriber in Ohio, USA with this video! What a beautiful house! I hate the fact that it's going to be gone soon. That should not be happening, but it's being done all over. Such a shame. That "Chime" you were wondering about is a Doorbell. When the doorbell was pushed outside, the bell was heard inside. Those long chime things really were just for show, I think. The old ones were actually wired to that box on the wall. The doorbell in that house was probably original. I loved seeing those palm trees though the window! We don't have those here in Ohio because it gets really cold, usually with a lot of snow in the winter. That scratch on your hand tells me you just might have a cat. I have several scratches just like yours because of our cats.
This is a stunning home, whoever lived there really loved and looked after the place. Another gorgeous historic home ransacked, bulldozed and a lifeless, ill constructed box put in its place. If I was in that neighbourhood I would have objected really strongly. Why???
It is sad to see these places being torn apart! I know it is good that they are going to repurpose that stuff which is good, but seeing it being done is so final!

Where are these homes?? Curious???
Thank you you have paid respect’s to the homes you film forever now documenting their existence at one time . Maybe give a shout out looking for past occupants of these homes that they can come here and be nostalgic especially for those who grew up or grew old in these homes over generations. They don’t make homes like this anymore because of the expense and the time it takes to create such detail and character. With all the homes I see being bulldozed to the ground so these developments can be put in i am really getting a hate on for developers and local city governments. What is happening here is happening in every large city in the western world . The city I live in has been here for over 200 years and there is maybe two handfuls of original homes here , none of them have the property they would once of had and farmland had been bought and turned into strip malls and the craziest thing the downtown was actually once part of and inlet from the ocean which was filled in and paved over so the newer downtown could be built . Sorry for going on . Again thank you for recording history.
Very very sad to see this beautiful home destroyed! Thank you for sharing it. I wish they knew how many ppl love it the way it is! Much more character and workmanship. 😢
