Actually we raised a Canada Goose and a Mallard Duck from eggs. My hen Chicklette brooded the eggs and raised them. When the Mallard became an adult he stalked my hens and tried mating with them. We ended up taking him to a place where a woman raised orphaned Mallards for our wildlife rescue and then released them into the wild on a five acre pond on her property. Not only did they do fine but my Mallard fit right in with them. It all depends on how it's done.

First off there has to be a shelter or rescue for animal welfare. Then the drop off fee can be hundreds of dollars ( in our area it's 200 per cat and 300 per dog) people have lost jobs don't have that money. Maybe they couldn't afford the duck any longer or had to move and couldn't keep him and had no options. At least they brought him to water where he could have a chance to learn to forage. Didn't lock him up and just leave him to starve. Glad he found people to help.

if you’re wondering, he’s a khaki Campbell drake, if it’s an honest guess I’d say they dumped him because they had too many males instead of females. in a case like that you can give him to another farm looking for more drakes to breed instead of leaving him alone. Ducks are social animals so this behaviour is seriously disgusting, what makes it worse is the fact he can’t even get that far since he’s a khaki Campbell, and that species does not fly well. So he’s a perfect target for a predator

Love this duck & the family that saved him. Ducks are amazing animals with awesome personalities. A KZread family from Texas decided they didn't want their domesticated duck anymore and took it to a lake nearby they just left it. People gave them a hard time including myself because I knew he wouldn't make it. I really hope that duck found an amazing home like this little mallard guy. 🦆❤

Such a sad beginning to the story but it ended up being the best thing for Roo.... I hope the person that abandoned him sees him now and feels like an idiot because now he's a KZreadr. Watch who you call the ugly duckling in middle school.... Now they're an internet sensation. 😂

I can't believe someone would literally throw Roo away like he's garbage . . . well, you know what they say: one man's "trash" is another man's _treasure_ ! All things considered, the day Roo (I had a hound named Mr. Roo!) walked up to the husband was the luckiest day in the world for all of them!

@@jellyfuu That could be the case, but he was far too domesticated to live in the wild. The people who released him should have realised this. They put him in danger and he would have died. Glad the right people found him.

It could be a rescue/release but if it Walked up to another person then it had WAY too much human contact or was fed by humans long enough that it wouldn't be able to survive very long.... Besides that it doesn't look like it's wild, it could have been a super friendly wild duck that just got used to people by contact and figured someone would keep feeding him, he probably wasn't expecting the perfect life. LoL
