Abandoned Disneyland Knock-Off - Nara Dreamland Theme Park Exploration
Ойын-сауық
After taking the midnight train from Osaka, we arrived in Nara, Japan, the home of a massive abandoned theme park called Nara Dreamland. How did this uncanny Disneyland copy come to be, and what does it look like after years of abandonment? Find out now!

When I was 8, 9 years old, my parents told me that there was Ultraman in this place. We took a long trip from Osaka just to get there and the rain became so heavy it had to close. When we got there, even though they closed, they apologized and let us in. They gave us Ultraman toys and goods. It was a kind of unfortunate, but to this day, I still remember this place called Dreamland. Thank you "The Proper People" for this video.

Can you imagine growing up and having an abandoned amusement in walking distance of your house as a kid? When I was a kid we’d just go to the creeks over and over again. This would be otherworldly adventure.

When I lived in Myrtle Beach I was walking distance away from the defunctHard Rock Park. Walking around the abandoned entrance was cool but the park was completely gated off and definitely had security there.
The park got demolished a couple years ago, no it is completely gone, they are going to put senior parks on its old location. Im glad people documented it before it was erased.

Those kids were adorable. My Japanese is very rusty, but I'm pretty sure they basically said that you scared them because they heard noises like banging, and they were relieved when they saw it was you ("Ah, tasukatta!") You started talking about ghosts, so he thought you wanted to see the haunted house and took you there. He said you would need a light in there because it was very dark, and then he said his name (Yuugi/Youhei?? I have bad speakers and I didn't catch it well, I'm sorry.) His friend was very scared to go into the haunted house, so his group was backing out. He then asked where you were from (understood the word America and connected it with something he knows from the country - basically telling you something he liked.) He then either told you his KZread channel or that he would watch the video on your channel (definitely something about KZread.) At the end, he said something like "goodbye! Ghosts are no good! Punch them away!" Not 100% correct, but I hope it's close enough to help some people for context.

I can read all the English written in Katakana like AISU SKEETO RINKU. It kind of bothers me that the railroad around the park goes in a circle. I would have this obsessive compulsive disorder where if I built a railroad of any kind, real or model, it needs to have both left and right turns instead of just turning in one direction. I know if you turn the train around and run it the other way, then it's turning in the opposite direction even if it's the same circular track. But still. Disney just has it's train run in a circle in just one direction. It's got to be tedious as fuck especially when it rides through a cave with loud sound effects. If I was the driver, I'd be like, "oh, fuck it's this same cave again with the ear shattering sounds." It's got to be a tedious task to drive that fucking train. People need to buy my "Impact" a James Grider novel on Amazon and linked in my videos and subscribe to my channels so I can afford a used car.
Great video! It is a bummer that it was torn down/demolished. Looks like you guys filmed this video just in time b/c they started demolition in October 2016! Thank you for preserving the history a bit with this video!
What a sad end to something that someone else put so much time into. I can only imagine how much joy it brought when it was built and the memories that were created were a short span of time. Thanks for visiting this park and for allowing a glimpse into what it was and what it is in the present day.
I actually visited this place in its heyday in the early '60s...as a 12 year old kid. My father was stationed in Atsugi, Japan at the time...and we went there on vacation. Anyway, back then it was entirely a Disney rip off. There was a Mickey...and a Donald Duck...if I remember correctly. I think Disney sued over copyright laws. They must have changed the rides to be more Japanese like at that time. Neat to revisit. I'd like to say I remember more, but unfortunately I do not. It's been over 50 years ago...

This is by far one of the best-made exploration videos I've ever watched. You're not obnoxiously loud; you often really let both the silence and the natural sounds from inside and around the park dominate the background. The long, still shots of some of the attractions and the overgrown buildings on Main Street are also a big plus. The humor, scattered through out the video, is also never forced to 'make sure there's someone talking in the video'. In my eyes, 10/10.

I’m kinda confused why these abandoned parks never at least salvage the furniture and stuff. Like that stuff could be reused or something
@hzuiel
4 жыл бұрын
I think there are a variety of reasons stuff gets left behind. I think when some places close, there is a hope that it will reopen again, so they don't bother getting rid of the stuff. A theme park near me has closed at least 3 times and eventually reopened each time. If they plan to sell a place, they may leave stuff in place hoping to sell it as one lump sum rather than having to part it out and find buyers for all the stuff. Also if there is any litigation against a business when it closes i don't think they can legally liquidate assets until all lawsuits are finalized. If this process takes years, the condition of the stuff may be so poor it's not worth selling.

Well the video's 3 years old but for anybody who's curious, here's some of the Japanese speech translated: 10:17 "bikkuri shita!" = you scared us! 10:29 'ban' is pretty much the Japanese way of saying 'bang' or 'pow'. 10:55 "shashin totte... ii?" = could you take a photo? (unclear who he's talking to, or he might be speaking in the general sense of "let's take a photo"... Japanese can be kind of ambiguous like that at times) 11:08 'haeru' is to enter 11:20 "chiisai kara midoru..." = it's small, but in the middle... Evidently he's trying to say it's small on the outside but if you go inside there's much more to see. 11:47 I think he said "tte abunai nah" which is like "hey it's dangerous" (he's kinda joking) and soon after we start to just barely hear a girl in the back say what sounds like "ya da" repeatedly which is basically a Japanese way of saying "nope, nope, nope" 11:52 "matte matte wait wait" well he translated himself there but yeah by now that girl is properly freaking out. I think she's saying "kono ya da" which is like "I don't like this one bit" or "hell no to this". 12:05 'naiteiru' = crying 12:30 "ki o tsukete" = be careful, "/ghost/ ni yareta dame" = don't get done in by a ghost Well I'm not super fluent but my conversational Japanese is an inch or two past mediocre. Don't ask me to translate any of the signs though. My reading skills are non-existent. Peace, ghosts, and Ariana Grande.

Its not exactly a Disney knock-off... It was originally going to be a real Disney park, but after the Nara Business man, and Walt Disney couldn't decide on a licencing agreement for the Disney-Original-Attractions and characters, the Disney company left the project. But by that time, 80% of the park was already built, minus most of the Disney things. So then the Nara Business man was rushed into finishing the theme park and came up with these attractions. For example, the mountain was already built, and was supposed to be Matterhorn, but had to be called the 'Bobsleds' instead. After the fully Disney attraction opened in Hong Kong and Shanghai, Nara Dreamland was seen as a Copy Cat Park. Week after week, the park got less visits, workers and janitors quit. And Nara Dreamland went under the radar, and became dirty and unpopulated, until it closed down.

The view from the castle rafters, that was the best shot-I could physically imagine being there with my parents, a kid in a Disney-like wonderland, all the families walking down Main Street and crossing the bridge, water sloshing in the now empty moat, damn… And I can’t believe the animatronics in the dark ride at the end were still there!! I would have imagined those reused or stolen looong ago, wow! Amazing video, so sad to hear that it’s destroyed now…
I would be terrified to do this in a foreign country! Getting in legal trouble in another country is one of my biggest fears. The 1999 movie Brokedown Palace scarred me for life

It's so beautiful and erie to see nature reclaim these man-made structures.
i visites Dreamland in 2002 during a family trip. Fun place with lots of interesting things to do. But what really caught my eye were so many people holding out their flip phones in front of them. I couldn't figure out what they were doing and finally asked someone. She showed me that she was taking photos with her phone lol.
The creaky floor in the castle is one of the ways used to alert the person(s) at the up coming scare spot to be ready that people are coming, everything is about timing. The flashing lights, creaky floors, sirens and such are part of the scare and alert systems for the next scare.
