This is so relatable omg I absolutely hate bathroom fans. I'm not used to them, so whenever I go somewhere that has a bathroom fan, it always scares the shit out of me. 1- Bc I always turn it on by accident, just like you mentioned. And 2- Bc these things make weird "respiration" noises, how am I supposed to poop peacefully with something sucking air above my head? It makes me so uncomfortable for some unknown reason. I wouldn't be able to explore an abandoned hospital as well, that's for sure LOL

I used to work at this hospital, I can give you a little insight. At 2:05 that was actually the emergency department and the main nurses station where all the drawers are open. At 2:58 your picking up a blood culture specimen bottle safe and sterile as the cap was on the top and unused. 15:20 they would do very minimal surgeries at this location s this was the small hospital they kept open for beach-side people, it was the equivalent of a urgent care level of acuity. 18:50 that is the dialysis / respiratory therapy supply carts. Your escape route was my shortcut to the Dunkin next door when I was sneaking out while not on break.

The info I found said founded 1915. I don’t think the current building is nearly that old. Maybe 1950s. There was a big industrial boom (now about fizzled out) after WWII. The area we saw was maybe last renoed in 80s. The rest of the hospital maybe mid 2000s. It was just so strange to open a door and see a deserted wing.

@@susanmiller4159 And guaranteed that if you found a deserted hospital wing... The hospital workers know all about it, and it's probably regularly used for them to have sex in. I worked at a well known and highly accredited hospital that people from all over the world would come to for some of the best medicine and treatments known to man, and there were places like the steam room, and 8th floor empty wing they would go to to have sex. It never affected their ability to do a good job though. If people only knew what goes on behind closed doors everywhere... not just hospitals... Even restaurants... There are places like the potato room, storage areas... banquet storage for large parties... on and on... they have sex on their break or sometimes on the clock... wash their hands and arms really well and go back to work. A lot of cheating goes on....on the job. People think that just because their wife or husband is at work that they can't cheat, because they are at work... Pulllleeeessseee! ... they do it all the time. People do what people want to do and they find ways to do it, especially if they have their wife or husband thinking it can't be done.

AHCA has strict requirements that may not be obvious. Any one of the building support systems could have been submerged in water, thus EVERY piece will have to be removed and replaced. This means switchgear, airconditioning, steam, air, oxygen, anything. it would all have to be gutted and replaced. Considering this was on the oceanfront they could have been flooded with water.

There is enough incompetence in the world and especially in the healthcare industry, that I wouldn't be surprised if the missing computers were in someone's house or on ebay/in pawn shops. Most of the patient data would have been on the servers that were likely removed, but the way so much was left untouched, I wouldn't be shocked if there was enough patient information left behind on paper to get someone started on identity theft/fraud/blackmail. Just my opinion--maybe the company did the right things, but I'm skeptical looking at how untouched the site is. And clearly there is very little security.

It kinda makes me sad seeing it in that condition, and now knowing it has been torn down, when my Dad was there he had been recently diagnosed with cancer and then took a hard fall and broke his hip, the rehab there was supposed to get him back to mobility, but all of that was not to be....he passed away a few weeks later.

For those wanting more information: they are called BPA Aerobic Culture Bottles made by a company called Biomerioux and branded as Bact-Alert System. The liquid in the bottle that you can see in the video is a "soy broth" and the bottles have not been inoculated yet. After being inoculated with a sample they get loaded into an incubator that monitors them for bacterial growth. In the Red Cross lab that I work in we also do BPN Anaerobic concurrent testing for pooled platelets, and apheresis PAS platelets. In our lab we also make Pathogen Reduced platelets that do not have to be monitored for bacterial growth since they use a compound derived from agave plant and UV light to kill off any possible pathogens in the product. Science is neat :D

So I lived in this area and shadowed at the new hospital that this one moved to. They shut this one down due to mold issues on top of building a new much much larger hospital. This one was not equipped with much of anything past urgent care facilities, and some basic offices and the next closest hospital with a real emergency room was about a 20-30 min drive. The new hospital is able to do so much more than this one. This building was old and after the hurricane unsafe. From what I was told they weren’t allowed to go back in to get stuff due to air quality. The building is now demolished.

But let's be honest: a LOT of stuff could have been salvaged, like for example the wheelchairs, the hospital beds, medical equipment which is still wrapped up and never used, heck even parts of the Xray machines could have been salvaged. I'm pretty sure some computers were still left in there. And please don't pull out the "bruh its for insurance" card, because it doesn't take much effort nor money to take the wheelchairs out and reuse them, or unplug a computer to transfer it to the new hospital.

My cousin works with a company that demolishes buildings, and he told me that before any building is demolished, everything is gutted from the inside, salvage companies will strip all copper wiring and pipes and as many metals of value as possible, all equipment and anything of use is bought out in bulk by companies, who in turn sell or donate it. Basically, as little as possible will go to waste when a building is demolished.

I think it is a cost benefit equation. Scout the place out, learn the security routine, plan on the fact that if they were caught and it was obvious they weren't breaking or stealing anything then they would most likely be told to or allowed to leave. Maybe they give the guy some chillin chairs merch t-shirts or something. Even if they were arrested it would be just trespassing, probably not a big fine. I bet they wait until the statute of limitations runs out before they post.

@Sparkle4me Spelled and Spelt. The verb to spell most commonly means to write or name the letters that form a word in correct sequence. ... The past tense and the past participle can be written as either spelled or spelt. However, they are not interchangeable, especially in the US. As I'm English and we invented the language I can use either.

As a security officer in the state of Virginia, you'd be surprised how much dumb shit we guards have to deal with. People will continue trying to use broken things even though we've been told by someone to tell them "No, no, that's broken, you can't use it.". And yes, that includes overflowing toilets. Not that we have to clean up the mess, but damn it's annoying when people don't listen haha. I'm a bit surprised the logs got left behind, my company would've made sure all property was removed that we owned, including logs and such.

"We have to cleanup the mess," there's no low-level wannabe but not good enough to be cop cleaning up overflowing toilets. You got on your little walkie-talkie and requested custodians. What are you going to do? Shine a flashlight at it? Or put a "I got your 6" sticker on it?

@@zachsabbath1 Okay dickhead, since you dug up a two year old comment let me be clear. I strongly considered joining my local PD, I decided not too because of the political climate around being a police officer. I never said that I had to clean the mess up, I said I have to deal with dumb employees. The security company I work for and site I currently work at is actually wonderful, great people, few problems, and they don't try to throw security under the bus. Also, just so you know, I'm brutally honest and will admit I'm a bit lazy, the few labor intense jobs I liked doing, I couldn't do because I couldn't get proper help. I'm not gonna kill myself doing three peoples jobs. So, passing a security guard day after day, shitty job after shitty job, seeing him sitting at his desk reading a book, I decided, "Hey that looks like a good gig". Don't judge people, I've chosen my lot in life and I'm happy with it, can you say the same?

It’s a shame that all that equipment was left in there. Stuff like that is surprising expensive, even for a hospital bed and wheelchairs. They could have been donated or moved to a different hospital in the same care system.

hey dude, this was right down the street from my house. I went to this hospital as a kid when I broke my arm, and it was crazy to see it again since it recently got torn down. No one ever broke in because we knew it was being monitored by a guard for a long time
