No, that’s too easy. I worked in retail for too many years to see how lazy Advertising departments were and actually still are. The internet should sell directly to you, but should also be used to drive you to want to seek out store only. Clicking on items will never replace good customer service. Retail didn’t get digital media fast enough and then they didn’t utilize it well enough. They still don’t.

What amazes me about the lights still being on is that you can tell this mall didn't just close the week before---you don't get water and roof damage that quickly, this place had been closed for awhile. Honestly, I think September 11, 2001, was the beginning of the end, followed by 2002 recession, 2008 financial crisis, and now Covid. to redo the HVAC/electrical, plus all the building material required would not be worth it. You would still have a 40 year old building with all kinds of nastiness in the walls. These places were huge energy hogs. Maybe if these malls were architectural gems, but most of them were monstrosities.
@travelandmoore
25 күн бұрын
To rezone, then bring the property up to code for living space, then individual hvac. Electrical, and water for every unit you would spend more than the whole property is worth or have to tare up and out so much it would be recognizable and cost more than the property is worth.
The location has suffered a bit since this video- a three-alarm fire damaged the place on May 15th, 2022 to the point where demolishing the entire place has become pretty much guaranteed. Actual renovation odds are zero after how much damage that (and earlier) fire inflicted.

Reminds me a bit of the Esplanade Mall in Kenner, LA where I used to go sometimes. Same general plan: an upper gallery level of shops looking down on a central plaza. The Esplanade has escalators and a glass lift. Can't quite recall if the food court is on the upper or lower level but I expect a lot of suburban malls were built to the same layout more or less, with three or four big split-level department stores as anchors for the whole mall, and of course a multiplex cinema.

If they could attach subsidized housing for seniors/disabled buildings to these faltering malls they might be able to save them. There’s someone else there who left really quickly. They made a noise too. Creepy
where is that place? it is amazing how totally abandoned it became, yet how well preserved that it is.

Well it wasn't preserved very long this was filmed about a year or so after it closed it has since been destroyed by vandalism arson and scrapping.

I just couldn't go into anything abandoned. Too creepy. I watch folks go into mansions, regular homes and malls and I would be petrified.

Mansions and houses honestly scare me the most any kind of residents is my least favorite. You never know if someone is still inside or making it there home.
Dude took pictures at that photo lab i was about 15 that puts it at about 2000-2001 and the mall was still in operation.

It was barely still hanging on as a mall when I left in 2005. I think so anchors were gone at that point, leaving just small mom and pop stores, and they were just starting to put offices in.
The weird glitches in the footage really add to the whole Backrooms-ish vibe this is giving me (ik the lighting isnt yellow/fluorescent & it's not empty, but ykwim- just that same creepy feel.) ETA the lights on make it better... A little.💀

I don't know where this is but wherever it was something looked like it went terribly wrong and in a sense of like a flash mob or something kind of ransacked the place .

You would think that in this day and age malls would be more popular than they were in their heyday. People complain about being so busy and having so little time etc... the one stop shopping of the malls would be a practical solution. Sadly it is not the case. To them 1 stop shopping means solely online or a trip to Wamart. It kills me to see people's photo memories just tossed carelessly on the floor and counter tops at the 6:35 minute mark. How many of those photos are missing from the families they belong to? I'm sure the electric company will notice and increase in the power usage in that old mall after you started flicking lights on.
