Sad that the owner let the car sit and get to this condition when financial problems occurred. We're doing what we can to bring her somewhat back to life!
I remember as a kid, seeing a new one of these, same color with yellow highlites. For some reason, I've never forgotten that car. The 57 was truly a beautiful machine .
Enjoyed the video. Here is some help with the door, trunk, ignition, and glovebox locks. I grew up and worked in my Dad's Chevrolet dealership and having built up a 55 Chevy Convertible in 1971 that had been in a ditch for several years, I knew how to get keys for the car. We had a master set of keys that worked for all GM cars. You usually had to try a lot of them, but once you found one that worked, you could unlock the lock, remove the lock cylinder, get the four digit code from the lock, and use that to cut the correct key. Some people just had us cut a copy from the master and didn;t worry about the correct code. We had four or five rings of master keys. They worked great on all of these cars, but were not longer useful when the steering column locks came about. It has been so long ago, I don't remember, but I think that they worked through 1967. As I remember, the door and ignition are the same and trunk and glovebox are another code. If you can find a dealer that has been in business for a long time, you can probably get them to help you with the master key set. Hope this helps.
This car definitely deserves a full restoration to glory!!
Pretty crazy before and after. Hopefully someone can fully restore it and enjoy it.

Great job cleaning the outside of that ‘57 Chevy. It’s ashamed that it was adorned and cared for most of its life and then just severely neglected. Hopefully it is still solid enough to be brought back by someone who appreciates such a beautiful and iconic car. I mean, it’s a 57 Chevy 2 door Hardtop. Hopefully you opted NOT TO CUT THROUGH THE DOOR to gain access. All of that vegetation on the car is actually great, ready-to-go garden mulch!! Use it guys! Great project. Astonishing results.
This thing deserves a complete off the frame restoration. What an absolute shame this car was neglected like this. The 57 is my favorite of those three years.
Word of advice: if you ever pick something out of a garage, always look around for extra parts. Most people buy new parts for vehicles and don't have time to put them on so they just sit on shelves. It will cost less because most owners will just throw them in the deal just so they don't have extra parts left behind.

True story there. Sold my restored 57' Bel Air with the original and running 283 in the bay along with a machine shop rebuilt and cammed 58' 283, complete carb to pan, with billet and SS add ons, extra doors, trim, original front spindles and brakes, a rebuilt 400 turbo transmission, wheels, wide whites. Everything 57' Chevy went with the deal. $30,000.00 worth of car and parts for 38,500.00, asked 40,000.00. Still regret to this day.
I would have entertained asking a lock smith to pop the locks and had a key cut for it, one alternative is to flood the mechanism by prying the door card slightly and pumping WD40 inside , and the door locks , and spraying the door seam to cover the striker . Had a EH Holden Special which jammed on me in the same way also utilised a old hair dryer to heat and expand at the same time .
A wonderful find, well done guys, even in this condition the car looks very chic, they knew how to make high-quality and beautiful cars before!😌

Just joined the channel from UK Scotland and cannot wait to see the car fully restored after watching the follow on video to this and have subbed also to the Layton channel. A truly stunning car in silver and what a find, can't wait. Thanks both channels involved.
Without breaking a window, I would soak the keyhole with pb blaster. Also, I'd spray the lock mechanism with it as well. I'd resoak it a few times. If it won't unlock then I'd try a slim jim which would bypass the lock and handle mechanism. You could also pull the window out of its guide and drop it inside the door to gain access from the inside.
Esse carro é uma relíquia, muito lindo.
That 57 Chevy deserves its own channel. Sorry to see what happened to it. I hope someone can partner with the owner to get it properly restored.

To open a door, grab the partial open window at the top and firmly push it up and down several times to loosen the window regulator, then it should push down. Or use a metal clothes hanger or a firm piece of wire to reach inside the window to grab the door handle. Hook onto the inside door handle and pull up, and the door will open, even if the lock button is down. Nice find!

I recall as a kid crawling into back seat from the trunk. A small metal vinyl [or fabric barrier] is there. unlike a modern car, the door striker/latch mechanism is mounted outside of the door, not inside of it. So Yes, spraying Deep Creep or PB Blaster might have helped. if you got the door panel "off"...you could spray into the door to the rods and clevis's to help get it unlocked. Pulling up on the inside handle while pulling up on the door lock would have been a thing also.

True... It'll need to be sand blasted and repainted but then again, the whole car will most likely be redone
My first car at age 16 was a 1957 BelAir 2-door hardtop. The car in the video is a 210, which is much more rare than a BelAir. BelAirs have gold "Vs" on the trunk lid and hood, gold inserts in the top of the front fenders, BelAir strips in the rear, BelAir script on the rear quarter panels and other upgrades. Look up a 1957 BelAir photo and you will immediately see the differences.
Looks like this is going to be a fun one. It is a '57, but it is not a Bel Air. It is a series 210, which is the mid-line. Still, it is a sport coupe. The Bel Air was just trim differences, mostly. Good luck with the car! BTW, just shinny into the car via the open window. Raise the door latch handle and kick the snot out of the door, going outward. The door latch handle will unlock the mechanism, Will take persuasion, but should work. Better to wreck an already shot door panel than cut a door! Wet sanding is detailing 101.

I read many comments suggesting removing the front fenders. I am not sure about 55-57 Chevys, but many front fenders on older GM vehicles i have worked on seem to always have one bolt that cannot be removed at the top and rear of the fender that cannot be removed without having the doors in an open position. Just a thought. A quick glance at a new replacement fender would tell the story before taking things apart.
Growing up, one of the cars my folks had was a 1957 Chevy Two Ten station wagon. It was such a cool car!!
You couldn't get into a 57 with one window rolled down a one cracked open 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm wondering if this is a 210 instead of a BelAir? Yes they made 2 H.T.'s back then in both series. Would a bent coat hanger unlock it or was the doors "frozen" shut by rust?

Was that a trick question? I think I would have either crawled through the passenger door open window or just reached in and used the handle. But hey you got good engagement for the KZread algorithm. The trunks also open with a screwdriver. Crawl through the backseat.
Take an aquarium air pump tube and aim for the catch. Set up a Chinese 12V pump and run vinegar over the catch mechanism for...a few days? Look, it works!
Why even bother cleaning those rotten tires? They need to be replaced...whole thing needs a restoration...I washed my truck before disassembly, but I sure didn't detail it...there will be plenty of time for that once she's wearing a fresh coat of paint...this is all overkill on something that needs a full restoration & a new paint job & rechroming...bet that floorboard has some good rust holes in it too from not being stored properly...how long did it take to grow that moss? 30 years...background music is hideous...I'd rather hear the tools going...
AutoZone or advanced Auto what ever u have near you sells an air bag kit to get into cars that are locked. All you do is put the airbag in between the door and you basically pump it like someone takes your blood pressure and it slowly cracks the door open to where you could take like a hook and pop the lock on inside.
I have some questions and answers for you. Car title signed over or is it going back to the owner? Where did you find this thing? Because I may have found that car ahead of you without actually realizing it. Now for the answers. To get into the car you will have pull the door panels, first getting it open. I noticed your boy there was able to get his arm in to pop the roof dent mostly out. So, that means you should be able to reach the door handle on the inside. Problem is rust and lever being stuck. The lever usually on this connects via rods to pull the door latch mechanism for release, sometimes a rope or other mechanism for some cars. From the inside pull the locks up if you can, WD40 around the lock plunger hole and in the key holes. Get the WD40 nozzle down the window tracks and hose around. If you lift up and then push the window back down it might free itself up on the track. The more room you have to spray WD40 in there the better. Do the same with the handles on the outside, get that WD40 in there anyway you can. You want to lift up and push down the locking plungers as much as you can without destroying them. Bang lightly with your hand around the door handles on the outside, you are basically trying to knock loose as much of whatever is in there holding up the mechanisms. Its been a long time since I worked on a 50's chev, however if you can get those door lock plungers to operate and free up the latch for regular open you are halfway there. The door handles on the outside should be riveted in place and if those rivets have rusted enough, you might be able to pry the handles and door latch switch off giving you access to, very carefully mind you, giving you access, to, yep thats right, hose more wd40 in there. If you can manage to remove the chrome strips from the top of the door near the windows without destroying stuff doing it, you will have even more access. Its a hose and let sit kind of deal. If you can get a door handle and open button out of the way you may be able to grab ahold of the interior line or metal rod to actuate the latch mechanism. You could also use what I call a slip key, it patterns as you stick it into the key hole there, you then take a blank key and file it down to match, you now have an effective jiggler key. Or, since your boy was able to get his entire arm in there, with clearance to smack the dent out, then, you might be lying.
Locksmith?
Felistasiones a los grandes maestros mecánicos favulosos estraordinario maravilloso saludos cordiales dé la república de Chile
To get into to old cars, all you had to do was just tap on the door handle with a rubber mallet till the push down lock shimmied its way up from the vibrations 👍🏽
I have been in your position, and I called a locksmith to open the door. Well worth the cost. Also, this is not a Bel-Air; it is a "Two-Ten" or "210" - no filigreed aluminum trim panel on the rear quarter; hash marks on front fenders are silver (on Bel-Airs they are gold).
It looked amazing at the end, great detailing, the cleaning of the vehicle was also amazing, unfortunately where I live, we’re banned from using cleaning materials, just in case it gets into the water system.
Keystone wheels are pretty but unfortunately do not stand up to neglect very well. Hope can bring this one back to cruiser status. Good luck!
First of all: my guesstimation of the moss probably would have grown between 15 to 20 years after the car was parked it all depends on when the whole garage fell down. Second of all: I probably would have drilled out the locks, and after I finished the interior, I would have bought new locks to fix the ones that I drilled a whole through. I hope you fixed the rust on the hood because it didn't look so pretty with a big rusted place on the hood.
cleaning a dirty car for 30 years is unheard of. You did a good job
There are a number of ways to get in to a 57 Chevy first would be through the trunk because the backseat just lifts up and I have had to go through the trunk many times on a 56 which is the same as the 57. Also, they make a little flat bar that you can slip down Right next to the window and pull up on the lock mechanism. Or I noticed that the window was partway down and at that point you could force that window down by just moving it back-and-forth and it will go down so that you can grab the inside door handle anybody that has driven those cars knows how to get into them without a key in about 60 seconds.
PB Blaster! Spray everything rusted. Spray inside door locks. Use sandpaper, wire brush, file. Anything to remove the rust. Spray again. Scrub again. Spray again. Door lock should start to loosen up. Keep working it and eventually it will free up.
Soap filled brillo pads will do a better job than sandpaper wont scratch either if you use them lightly with hot water ❤❤❤
I would like to see the video with the internal cleaning of the car. I was disappointed, but the exterior work was excellent!
This 1957 Chevrolet is still circulating in Cuba like the first day and it is one of my favorites, along with the 1955 and 1956
Try using Kroil on the door mechanisms, spray in through the key hole and anywhere else you can get at it, I havent seen anything that it doesn't work on. Spary and let it set for 5-10 minutes and give it a try. I first saw it being used in the off shore oil industry.
500,000 WOW WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT BACK IN THE DAY - WELL DONE LADS!!!!!
Get a can of liquid wrench and drown the door lock mechanism a couple times. That stuff is amazing.
Try the trunk lock. Call a locksmith to pick the lock, if he can. Once in the trunk you should be able to get the rear seat back off and gain entrance. You mat have to sacrifice the trunk lock if needed...
That car is a 2 door Hardtop, worth saving for sure
Nice job. Lucky they used some thick layers of tough paint back then.
Very cool how you did the before and after and I was also wondering if that car was called the Hudson Hornet
This is undoubtedly a great barn find. As rough as the car is, it is an intact '57 Chevy with all the major pieces. The car has value, and someone WILL buy it and restore it. It get pulling it out of its grave and washing off the grime, but I don't get the detailing considering the state of the rest of the vehicle.
Oooooman the car looks good 👍!! Had the thought for using the Wet Sand Paper and Stealwool what sizes were they is that car in for wanting but did not take !!!! Striker INCORPORATED
Drives me crazy to see beautiful cars rotting away in old barns etc.
A slimjim (not the beef jerky strip) but a narrow piece of spring steel about 1-18 inches long with a notch about two inches from the bottom. Inserted between the window felt and the glass. the notes hook on the lock rods. A metal coat hanger straightened out inserted between the glass and door frame (depending) with a loop on the end to hook onto the locking mechanism on the top of the inside door frame. An older established locksmith should also have a set of GM master keys. Narragansett Bay
