Abandoned Australian Wildlife park. Decaying, left to rot.

This wildlife park was closed down in 2012 due to offences against the wildlife.
They also did not hold a license to display native animals to the public.
Due to the operator of this park not being able to obtain the license needed to run this park, they were evicted and surrendered all the animals to the rspca.
Since then this park has just been sitting, nothing so far has been done with it.
There's no news on if its being sold or going to be turned into something else.
Will just have to keep an eye on this place and see what happens with it.
The Shark that is displayed is a 5 metre Great White shark. *it is dead and is a taxidermy piece*...It died in 1998 in tuna fishing nets in South Australia. It is being preserved in this tank in formaldehyde.

Oh wow!! I used to work there from 1988-1998. The shark is real - a 5 metre Great White that was caught up in tuna nets off South Aust. The park was beautiful back then. Lots of healthy Australian wildlife, all held with permits, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, wombats, dingoes, cockatoos, galahs, and more, the giant worm museum and huge coffee shop and souvenir shop. The original owners sold it around 1999/2000. How sad it is to see it like this today.

@Katy Young The shark is in a solution and it's being held there. The solution stops the fish from decaying. It is most likely formaldehyde. Besides do you even know when your mom worked there? Have you ever thought that maybe they didn't work there at the same time? Plus she knew exactly what happened to the shark how did she know that if she didn't work there? Look before you go and accuse people of lying why don't you go try doing some research on basic biology and getting your facts right first honestly.

A little more information about why it closed if anyone is interested, I believe financial difficulties created the problems that led to it's closure. The park operator had held a valid licence for several years but had failed to renew it that year. And then they were evicted by their landlord (the park didn't own the land it was on). It wasn't until the eviction that authorities stepped in and the park operator agreed to surrender the animals. I don't think the animals were deliberately being abused, I certainly didn't see any evidence of that when I visited in 2008. I think it was more due to the fact of them not being able to care for the animals anymore. About the shark, it's real, and really dead, a great white accidentally caught in nets in the late 90's and preserved. I'm really surprised it's still there considering the drama about it's ownership back in 2004, the new owners of the park were claiming that the shark was included in the sale but a museum was claiming it had been gifted to them. I'm guessing the museum either didn't go ahead with the legal proceedings or they lost the case, which is a shame because then the shark wouldn't be rotting away under layers of possum s%&t it would be in a museum teaching kids. Makes me a bit mad really. I won't post the links to the news stories as I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be wise to reveal it's exact location. **Edit** The shark was never held alive in captivity, it was displayed as a specimen, it was accidentally caught in fishing nets and died there. Please read the comments, I'm getting asked the same question over and over!!! Also it is not the Damien Hirst shark, that shark was a different species caught several years earlier and was shipped to England.

@@pikaperishock1478 I think the main reason is that most sharks need to keep moving to continue to breathe, otherwise they suffocate. That's why smaller sharks survive in large tanks in aquariums but larger sharks can't. Whales are mammals so they breathe air and dont need to be constantly moving to survive, although in captivity they usually get really sick, depressed, and can develop psychosis.

For anyone wondering, the sharks name is Rosie. She was caught in a fishing net and died, her body was the. Sold to the park and they kept her in a tank of formaldehyde to preserve her body. Vandals trespassing at the park opened the tank, formaldehyde started to evaporate and exposed her fin so it began to decay. People also threw folding chairs and an old tv into her tank. A group managed to get her from the abandoned park, and make a new tank for her for be preserved in.

The shark in the tank is probably a great white or a bull, not a goblin shark (goblins have a really long nose and they are really rare sharks since they live in very deep water, so I don't think a wildlife park had one) The shark was never alive, the tank is way too small, it's not sleeping because sharks are always swimming, even asleep. It's either a replica or a dead one. It was never alive because those types of sharks needs a lot of space, especially great white, there's no great white in captivity because no aquarium, park,... can make a tank big enough for one, the last time a great white was in captivity, it ended up dying. Hope this comment was helpful to some people!

@@austincortes7637 yes it is real. Tank is bigger in person. But it was never alive during being at the wildlife park. It was caught by fishermen in the 90s or maybe 80s, and after it died that's when they put it in the tank. So the tank never had to be big enough to move around in, just to fit the shark.

@Damiensavige it was killed by the fisherman, after they caught the shark. A shark like that would not be able to live in a small tank as obviously needs room to swim around in. Once the shark was killed by the fisherman, they then displayed it in a tank.
