in 16 years, ive owned 36 vehicles. only two of which cost more than $1000. my last one was a 2006 Impala i paid $150 for with a good safety sticker somehow. I immediately cut the cat off, and put in a piece of scrap pipe i had, bent with pie cuts lol. got my $175 for the cat, so the car was essentially free. I drove the bag off that thing for 8 months. 365k kms on it. the only thing i ever put on it were wipers, and tires from our scrap pile at the shop (still had 4/32" tread), aligned with a measuring tape. eventually the transmisson went, so i scrapped it for $600, which more than covered my registration fee and insurance for that 8 month period. FREE CAR! lol. BUT, I will say. I have only ONCE got stranded on the side of the road, and that was due to a bad ignition switch. I had wires and a relay, as well as a momentary push button in my random bag of tricks and tools in the trunk, so i wired up my own switch and made it home unassisted!. Beater cars rule dude.
I just had an idea... When you're done with ROADKILL NIGHTS in Michigan.. ship the car to Dulcich in Cali and let him make an episode where he repairs the torsion bar holders and the floor pans. Because you need this thing being better, and we need more of the big man.
Tech tip: early Mopar hoods have to be drilled with a 357 Magnum. The steel was thicker back then.

There was a moment when I thought its neck was on the chopping block! Glad to see you guys got it together!! With any luck the ole charger will be the king of the fleet when it comes to Fuel mileage!
This is the content I love to see where you take the clapped out vehicles and just make them into fun machines keep up the good work Fin.
Finnegan, you (or someone else on Roadkill) cut the center section of the crossmember out to clear the trans... the crossmember that holds the torsion bar mounts. You see the box section at 15:35 - that seems important.
@stephenlea5765

That’s the structural box trying into each side of the frame that provides resistance to the twist for the torsion bars. Need to figure out a way to incorporate that back into the car…or go with the aftermarket IFS coil spring front subframe that eliminates the torsion bars.
Mike Finnegan, is the equivalent of Adam Savage to the automotive community. One of the coolest shops, the best toys, fantastic tools ( including some strange and quirky), and is at the point of their career, where they are chasing accuracy and give a hoot. Fantastic work Mike. Never change mate 👌🏼

“Numbers matching rust” 😂 love it! Great co-host with these too
36:00 I love nutserts. They make a pneumatic version of that tool as well. It looks like a pneumatic drill. Super quick and easy. We use them mostly in polycarb to attach it to to backlit signs, and make it easy to remove for maintenance.
Weld the donkey to the roof of the Daytona and take him to Roadkill nights! LOL
😂 watching you get the tunnel just right on a for real rotting platform, we’ll it’s why I tune in 😂
You need to raise the front of the hood hinge to lower the back of the hood. Sounds strange but that's how it works.
I love this kind of content. I’ve learned a lot of things from watching Finnegans Garage and really enjoy applying it in my own. Transfer punches, nutzerts, poster board templates… Thanks, Mike! Also, speaking of Roadkill Nights, it was an honor to meet you there briefly last year!
I need a new welder because my son won't let me use his anymore because I broke it the last time I used it! He was a little pissed, fortunately he fixed it, now I am banned from welding until I get a welder of my own. Love watching you all wrenching and am inspired to do more wrenching on my CJ-7 and my Harley thank you!
I know it's just a rusty clone, but there's something I really like about the dumpster fire Daytona. I'm glad you got it running and it made it to Roadkill Nights and we got to see it for a brief couple of minutes on the live feed, but I understand that you didn't want it to fold in half (I was hoping to go, but health issues at the last minute prevented that). I realize you have no intentions of actually restoring it, but I hope you eventually have the time or interest in at least fixing it enough to keep it on par with the work you've put into Death Metal. I also know everything takes money, and you have things that priority over this project too. Maybe Birdsong would be interested in donating some time and/or parts at in the future to keep it at least more functional and less likely to crumple into a Mopar ball of decaying tin foil. In either event, I'm glad you kept it from not being used and languishing more, and we get to see it. Hopefully it sticks around in the collection.

Just a thought to seal around your new sheet metal flooring, to keep the exhaust fumes out. Get some putty tape from a R.V. Store and seal up the gaps with it, and you can remove it if you need to and reapply.

That car has total epic potiental to be awesome and perfect. I once bought a 71' satellite for $300 with rust, bad trans, bad frontend, timing chain had a foot of play. I fixed everything in my driveway. When it rained i worked underneath. Long story short after $12-$15k to fix everything i bought some roadrunner trim parts and laid out RR stripes and graphics by hand and painted them on. In the end i had a badass RR clone. Just took money, love, and time.
I love the poster of Uncle Eddy emptying his shitter in the backround next to the whiteboard, your my spirit animal sir lol
20:45 The torsion bar is the most stable form of sprung suspension ever devised because it has virtually zero jounce or rebound, as compared to oil or leaf type springs. It is a sad shame that so few people realize how superior they are to coil or leaf suspensions when it comes to actual, roadable traction, especially on rough pavement. Admittedly, well built air suspension is better, but it takes up more space and requires more work to install than to reinstall the original T.B.S.

Formula One calls Torsion Bars "Rising Rate Suspension", because the more you twist, the stiffer it gets. The Torsion Bars on Current F1 cars are about 30cm long, and Titanium....
Love the vid. I adore sheet metal and bodywork. My Dad ( pre sharpies ) used an old small screwdriver. Ground to a point and that scores a lovely fine line in the metal.
I had a 68 charger back in the day. M/T N50-15s tucked under and in perfectly without any modifications. Don't remember what the offset of rim was. But it fit between rails and quarter. Satin Centerlines with 50's tucked, looked so badass from behind. Especially with the 68 taillights. 1968 was my favorite yr of the charger, because of the rear panel and taillights.
Good to see that you guys have it on the road 👍 Good luck with the trip.
My wife and I made it to roadkill nights for the frist time Stayed through the rain delaly And shook your had before Ice Cube took the stage. We had an amazing time. The excitement of that day will stay with me forever.
I Love the fact your making it run and drive! According to Richard Petty these cars were that good with the nose cone and wing it was dam near impossible to spin one of these out!!! It might not be a bad idea to have Chris Birdsong put a new tail light panel in the car and mabe fix the rust like he did General Mayhem, he could probably fix the quarters too and weld it bracing that a real Daytona would have to support the down force from the wing!!! Love this car man it will sick seeing you race and drive it!!!! Roadkill for life!!!! Best show ever other than Finnegans Garage!!!
Reminds me of my grandpa's charger, it's sitting on 33x22.5s crazy to see what all it takes to get that to fit lol

I have a 95 airbagged short bed Chevy, it's been a show truck for part of its life. I grew up in Montana, my teenager years I was a Cali, style lowrider guy. But I just subscribed to Truckin magazine. I knew I could find ol show trucks someday, still looking for the yellow ex cab shorty with chromed, wish bone front suspension..
We fit a lot of these side shift trans to various US and EU cars, the best way to box off the shifter area is to bend a vertical 3-side piece in the brake, and behind the shifter let it stick through the round shape of the tunnel a little bit. That way you can run the sharpie past the edge and have a perfect fit.
In a lot of the old pics of Daytonas and the ones I've seen in person, they have a baby chin spoiler to direct air into the radiator. Also have seen them with the opening of the nose enlarged like a Superbird.(it extended under the nose) Almost all of those had a 18x24" opening with a sceen held by an aluminum frame with a bar in the center. It makes a huge difference
One two combination of finn and joe roadkill style.....I dig it ....🙂👍
I love the fact that you're concerned about the hood gaps!😂 Oh, what a pile!! Have a good one, Fin! Thanks for the episode, dude; I'm looking forward to the Roadkill episode! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Always great content not that my opinion matters much but I think when you were doing the trans tunnel I will use the old propane torch heated and Hammer form around the areas that you needed to get around the transmission, hopefully stretch it out without any incident
One thing's for certain,, admirably,, Mike has accomplished that shifter hole patch so much nicer than a lot of rod builders would have. Don't believe me? Go shopping for an already done pro street car and see what you find. A lot of 'em will only pass the 20/10 test. 20 feet away @ 10mph. Don't look too closely and they'll look GR8.🙂
Walker flex pipe would make ideal snorkels from each mesh headlight cover to a rad shroud.
Nice burn out at roadkill nights. Thanks for signing my hat
Great episode, always amazed what you can drive on American roads , the cops here, would have you off the road so fast, you wouldn't need to worry about coolant temps
Brake out the aluminum sheets and make an Air duct going from the nose to the Rad and make some headlight mounts and send it! LOL

Ordered a nut sert kit for my shop from Amazon a couple weeks ago that has a range from 8/32 to 1/2". It's a tool I know I won't use that much but the times I've needed it and didn't have it were frustrating. Great tool to have. When I built my car and added a close out panel to the firewall where the ac box once was, I mounted my fuel pressure regulator to the panel by drilling 1/4" holes all the way through and mounting it with bolts. I needed help from my son to do this. With this tool I could have added nut serts to the panel and mounted the regulator myself. It would have been worth the cost of the tool for just that job alone.
Awesome work there the dash come out real nice in my opinion was good to see it in person for the first time last weekend
I learned that hole finding trick in the army. We couldn't get wheel sealing gaskets, so we made them out of a manila folder.
You need an "Astro Pneumatic Tool ADN14 Rivet Nut Drill Adapter Kit." Attaches to your impact driver and uses battery power instead of your hand power. makes installing riv-nuts simple and easy.
The tranquil sounds of cascading rust down the inside of the hood was priceless. 😂😂

50:22, You know you would do it again, in a heartbeat!
The wing, if I remember correctly... had a reinforcement from fender to frame.
Clone or not, that thing is still badass! The floors were rusty, but not as rusty as I thought they were going to be. Good episode!
in case you did not know those cars from the factory had extra bracing inside the truck going from bottom of the wing to the floor of the truck to stabilize them more because the wing would move and bend the quarter panels with out the extra bracing
been using the "nut-Certs" or Poly Rivets what ever you want to call them since the early 90's, 4 of them held a mag lock door magnet with 1200 lbs of holding force for 25 years

24:56 super easy method: sight the line between the two as close as possible. Draw a dot in the middle (hump, in this case). Sight the line between the two halves, draw a dot in those centers, rinse and repeat until you have a decent middle line. Close one eye or use a mirror to sight down the line. Both will work just as well.
Thanks! After watching this I’m pushing my a body’s aside to build my 69 charger I been hoarding parts for it for years :)
It's near mint! All it needs to cross the line is the Vega hatch mod for the rear window, maybe some working lights... and that's it.
Those inserts/blind nuts are great until they slip and spin, usually in the worst location to try and drill or cut out. The smaller mandrels are easy to break too 🤦🏽♂️
