Just some thoughts here, I’m almost a senior citizen , & I notice on a lot of exploration channels, (not just this one) that are often done by the “young & spry”, sometimes get criticized, for not being “all knowing” about the era something hails from, or it what an Item even is. Often I see various urban-type explorers , while filming, waltz right on by something rare & valuable or cool old hardware on a door & I want to yell “WAIT! ! HEY- pan in in that crown molding or or Stickley piece !”. What I CAN DO, is post a respectful comment, telling what an item is etc. PLEASE THINK BEFORE you call them dumb, or get all correctamundo , & remember it’s NOT THEIR FAULT they don’t know what something is , simply because they weren’t even alive yet , in that given era! SO instead of criticizing , use the comments to teach or enlighten others! * OF COURSE I realize that most people are decent, but when I see comments actually dogging the videographer, for not recognizing how valuable and/or rare something is, try to appreciate that THEY are taking their time , their coin , and an element of risk, these day’s especially , to document this stuff for all of us to enjoy , before it’s all gone & slipped forever into history, I did much exploring like this in my 20’s, back in the day with no way to document what I saw. I truly appreciate these videos you and others post for posterity!! Keep up the good work !! And THANK YOU!!

@StinkyPirates, me too. Born in 1972 but have loved mid century since I was a toddler. This property would be a dream come true! It's both sad And frustrating how ignorant many youth are. At age 12 I could identify most objects dating all the way back to the late 1800's. Maybe it's because the 70's were so goddamn ugly and they depressed me at a very, very early age with the Horrible itchy plastic clothing surrounded by browns and oranges, shags and fringes...Vehicles went from pieces of moving art to menacing massive boxes, as did the architecture. Who knows, but they sucked until just before the 80's when music took a turn and exploded wide with ska, new wave, punk, reggae, art school geeks and the likes of Devo! The 80's also brought back the 50's thanks to the Talking Heads, Cyndi Lauper, Nina Hagen and many others who helped usher it back into the main stream where it was bastardized by the watering down of the fashion industry who thought it was a good idea to pair it with anything geometric and neon. The entire premise and process of mid century modern was based on critical thinking in which aesthetics were to usher the masses out of the wartime depression era and into a Bright New Future. MCM didn't discriminate, though our society sure did with racist redlining-which I'm sure this quaint little town was certainly familiar with, but nonetheless the style reached everyone Everywhere and every single thing from a box of bandages to a simple window fan fit for any kind of budget had a design which quietly shouted YAY!! when one took it in recognition. No, I don't long for that propaganda pumped bigoted era where the air and water was dirtier than today due to lack of regulations, and yes I understand that little has changed today with the trigger bait we're still being fed as "social issues" but dang it! In 1955 one couldn't look anywhere without seeing artfully designed Everything!! Excellent work proving your point. Kids have information at their fingertips every second of every day just sitting in their pockets [rather, glued to their palms], yet they know so little about the facts. We not only moved an entire library of books to the 6 states we lived in, we also accessed the library on a regular basis. There's so much trending bullshit, road blocks, planted misinformation and outright bullshit on the internet that it's literally Hard Work to find truthful information these days. I found this out trying to find basic facts about caring for a dang unexpected bearded dragon rescue of all things!! Because of this intentional muddying of access to information I think kids willingly forfeit critical thought in favor of defensive guessing. I mean, the logic behind the OP's suggestion was nonexistent yet it was defended despite its complete lack of probability. Not only that, but this is the 3rd explore I've seen from this incredible location that the young host has gotten completely wrong in the same ways. They all claim that it has stood empty as a "time capsule that hasn't changed since the 1950's" when Very obvious modern plastics, graphics, appliances etc. etc. etc. stand openly opposing this in their very existence . Again, trending misinformation paired with willful ignorance. It's worrisome that being correct is no longer a concern in society. I just hope that we're not heading into an era that makes the ugliness of the 70's look appealing in comparison. Thanks for your hard work in keeping the integrity of truth and knowledge alive.

Oh my! That generic Darvocet (Propoxyphene or whatever) made me so sick 😷 back in summer of 2007...I’m so happy that was pulled from the FDA. I was also prescribed the infamous “Vioxx” for wisdom teeth pulling prior back in 2003...Yep, I had two drugs prescribed to me prior to the FDA pulling the toxic drugs 😬🙃

When I read the caption I guessed the town this was in. As soon as you cut to the church in the beginning I knew where it was. I've been going to a getaway cabin just up the road a ways since I was a child. I've even photographed this drug store multiple times. It's too bad what happened to that town, I have memories of that area being a fun place to stop and grab a slice, have dinner, rent VHS tapes, and even get some soft serve from fiddles. That all went away when they built the new highway. Thanks for going inside and filming to excited to watch this! P.S. this town became the way it is now due to a new highway route being added. The main road near fiddles was the route that ran through not the exit closer to the drug store. This town was doing okay up until about 15 years ago.

Most of the real estate in this town was bought by the state to construct a new part of the highway past the town. So those vacant properties still stand that they didn’t use the land for. Many of the old properties were auctioned off and some now have new people in them. This is one that hasn’t been sold. Commercial zoning has made it not worth a residential property and it is not lucrative enough to be a commercial property. So it sits. It would obviously have to be taken down ($$$$$$$) and a new building put up. I have driven through here for 10 years. It’s a shame, but many buildings in this tiny town are dilapidated.

@brenda ingram it was an old school themed kind of place. Edit: I've actually been in there twice now, shot some photos and looked through the old medications and junk laying around. My family bought our place near by in 1987, according to my father the place was not open back then. I found a medication pamphlet dating back to 1979 inside, so the place must've closed some time between those years.

Really nice explore! It had 1950's decor but I think it was abandoned in the 1990's.Wouldn't get anything left in that state for long in the UK. It would end up trashed after a year or so.

Dust accumulates mostly from the skin cells of humans. Other forms of dust exist, but for an interior room in an intact structure, there wouldn't necessarily be a lot of dust.

Seems like the grand parents, parents, and children all lived in this place for a bit. Hence you see a mixing of various items from the 50,60,70,80,90s etc.

This looks like it was last used as a gift shop, that had kept the old pharmacy items as decorations. I grew up in the 70s/80s, and have visited some places like that. The antique areas were roped off, and people could stand and look at the old items. Like a mini-museum. They would sell the more modern items, especially to tourists (books, snacks, newspapers, etc.)

Joyce Obeys I just googled this town..it is abandoned back in the 80’s they tried to revive the town but after route 17 became interstate 86 it rerouted vehicles out of parksville after that the town became abandoned again

What was creepy is that the batteries still worked!

Back in the 1950's pharmacists still had to mix medications to get the right prescriptions to the patients. A lot of those items in the house are worth quite a bit of money. Thanks for sharing brought back a lot of memories. We use to call them '5 and dime' stores.

Lusbox, anyone could have left the Teletubbie there when going through that area. The fact that the battery still worked pretty much means they were there just before this was taken. That Teletubbie was pretty clean for being with the mess they found. Someone trashed the place and it's pretty obvious there have been a number of people moving through in the past couple of years.

Was fun watching your reaction and perspective on this 'ancient relic'. The drugstore portion was interesting and kind of odd but really not too far removed from what I can remember as everyday life, and cool seeing this from a millennial's worldview. Reminds me how time flies and that I'm getting old.

I'm 51 years old and I remember the world looking like that. Good video. It's neat to see a place people basically just walked away from. I always wonder about the story behind that.

When I was 16 I worked as a delivery boy for a local small town pharmacy in the Midwest. It was the mid 80’s, the pharmacist used to mix some of the medications from “scratch”. This vid reminded of the stock room.

Whatever you do don't reveal the location. Not everyone is as respectful as you. Doesn't matter when abandoned, town obviously died from old age. Happening all over the US if not used as a "bedroom community" of a larger urban area. Small towns and rural lifestyles are fading away as younger generations seek employment (and high speed internet and cell service) in larger metropolitan areas. In a way these explores are a documentary of another way of life that's going by the wayside in America. Thank you for taking the time and effort for this explore before this town disappears. 👍

Watching houses become abandoned/vacant around our rural area over the past decade as my generation ages into nursing facilities or relocates to urban areas for medical and transportation. Seems to be accelerating since recession, investors buy up land and lease for ag and let the old houses rot. Few want them as little in the way of employment with a living wage, hour plus commute to larger metro areas. In winter, double that.

This area may have a different fate than housing when we are forced to sell/relocate for medical care, etc, See oil wells (5 west of us now), mining for water (fight current), wind turbines (plan proposed now), and/or mega farms and big ag ( close to us now) All of that for urban dwellers. Small farms like ours (only 40 acres) are a thing of the past. Way it goes. I know.

I don’t know about anyone else when we move we take everything. Weird that they left wedding photos, kids toys, bedding, crib and books. As for the store/pharmacy I would think they would take the new items that were not sold with them to sell. I doubt the “drugs” left behind are what we considered now as controlled substances. Intriguing!

If walls could talk. I’m sure the history of these places is fascinating enough to have their own Netflix series of short stories. I know my grandmothers home is over 200 years old! Our country was only 30 years old when it was built. Americans were still on horse and buggy at the time. It has seen several families, the beginning era of our country, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, The Korea’s War, Vietnam, and so on. The house was used to house solders and freed slaves during the Civil War. It’s been completely remolded and will likely be there another 200 years. We’ve gotten records dating back to the early 1900’s and even a photo from that era but that’s as far back as we can get. That is one of the main advantages future generations will have 100 plus years from now. They will easily be able to document the history of our time since it’s our era is so heavily digitally documented, to the point of being excessive and invasive at times.

am I the only one who thought the teletubby doll was spooky ? I think if you spend the night the teletubby doll comes to life at midnight and trys to murder you. awesome find because this shows what it was really like and not from a old 1950s sitcom. needless to say I never lived in the 50s but I do know they didn't make things out of plastic so all the plastic stuff is much more recent. Thank you for the video it was interesting.

I remember waaay back, I think it was a circle K, not real sure but, it was across the street from our house, our mom would write a note asking to buy a pack of cigarettes and send one or two of us kids over to get them. We would hand the guy the note and the money and would give us the cigarettes and send us on our way lol Now Wal-Mart, it had just opened well, Waltons 5 and dime, when I was 16. It was about the size of a Family Dollar store then lol. God, I feel so freaking old now 😂😂

@@talindakelley189 I did the same thing!My mom gave me a note and I walked to the store. Cigarettes were under a dollar a pack. She smoked viceroy. I could picture what the pack looked like.

I grew up in the 50s and 60s so I remember those drugs stores well. It would be nice if it could be restored to the original state and open up as a tourist destination.

As someone born at the beginning of the 80s I know my childhood! This has stuff after the 80's too like the Teletubbie but it's heavily 80s filled. Not at all abandoned in the 50s or 60s. Not even close.

A lot of stuff looks more modern than the 50’s and the streets are cleaner and very well kept, I’ve seen worst in the 2019

Many have said it already, but there are tons of clues of this place being inhabited much later than the 1950's. Still a cool explore. There are clues to search this town out on Google and the town didn't become completely ghosted in the 1950s.

There is a Teletubbie doll, Teletubbies first aired 1997. You may have thought the 50's due to the wedding picture upstairs. I do not know where or the history of this place so I do not know how long it has been opened etc. I am guessing that maybe people were there at least until then or after. You may think earlier and could of been, Like you mentioned it is not a store chain, it is individually owned. Great video, there is so much to look at, I need more lol. Maybe you can go back and film some more and do a series and included all the abandoned buildings, that would be awesome! Thanks again for the video

Good job, done respectfully. Give them a break, they are young men. Some 50’s through the 90’s. I think they knew when the building closed up and tried to take care not to alert everyone to the contents or location.

It was a completely different era. I worked in a drug store like that when I was a boy. I loved it. They did try to revive this town in the 1990s, and did well for a short time.some say they are looking to try again. It began to die when the O&W Railroad shutdown.

People crack me up over getting so bent out of shape over the accuracy. You make enjoyable videos I really couldn't care less when the last time was that someone lived there it doesnt take away from the video there are obviously a lot of items that have been sitting there for a very long time regardless how long its been. I appreciate the work you put in for us to enjoy!💜

I know right? If you picked up any one thing on that building, it would be worth a ton on eBay. Kinda makes me wonder why the squatters didn’t sell it

I'd love to know more of the backstory about this place. Most mining ghost towns are pretty well cleaned out as everyone had time after these mining companies went out of business to clean out their personal belongings before they had to move. Very unusual.

Yes, there used to be a lot of abandonments all over the world right up until the early 2000s that were a case of the owner had no family left or the family had moved abroad and when they passed away the house went abandoned and any legal issues around the ownership and inheritance of the building were shrugged off, these days though, in the last few years this has not really been allowed to happen, especially not in the USA or UK as the state steps in, lays claim on the property and land and sells it at auction to grab extra money for the state, basically it is classed as un inherited and "intestate" and the state takes it, this even happens with living relatives if no will is left, a member of my family passed away in another area far away and the state took the lot, it was millions in cash, property and land and it was all seized and "appropriated by the state" and all that happened was a letter from a city law firm arrived telling the family it had happened and not to challenge it or else"

WoW!! Observing the remnants of the 50's was awesome. I was born back then and things like the ringer washer and old refrigerator probably from tge 70's. (I owned one just like it at 20 yrs old) brings back memories of when I was a teen. . I feel so blessed to have been born in this era. The "hippy experience was so groovy". I got to experience the times when life in many ways was so much less complicated than life today.. Even though back then we didn't have the advanced technology we have today. Such as remote controls, video games, cell phones, etc. I believe in many ways technology has done anything but make life simpler. If anything it has complicated our lives in many more ways than one. Man is slowly destroying our world trying to become God in attempts to take control of everything. Up until now we may have had no control over. Just my personal opinion. I actually have some medicine in those dark brown glass bottles from the early 70's. Even then the drug stores appeared similiar to the one in the video. That teletubby talking toy was from 1998. I honestly think this time capsule was from the late sixties or early 70's. Rather than the 50's. Although the wringer washer was definitely something invented in 1911. They continued to be made by Maytag until 1983. Just one more mystery as to "Why, did they leave everything behind"? Anorher awesome video. Thanks for sharing. I remember growing up in the 60's, there were Rexall independent drug stores in most towns. Besides drugs and cosmetics, most had lunch counters where you could get a homemade milkshake to go with a grilled cheese sandwich. They sold housewares, toys, and other stuff like Walgreens today.

I want to say that the video as a whole is very good. The pace, narration and camera work are all top notch. The facts or history behind it might not be as well researched as it could be. Other than that I still enjoy watching this video series.

A Brief History The Town was created in 1807 and was settled mostly by families from Connecticut and other eastern states. Around 1800 settlers arrived in Xxxxxxxxxx. Xxxxxx and Xxxx are attributed to be the first settlers. William Xxxxx and his family arrived shortly after and started to build mills and improve the area. Martin wanted to call it Xxxxxxxxxxx but the settlers revered Xxxxx more, and hence the name Xxxxxxxxxx. Although He later moved to Xxxxxx County, when he was 80 he visited Xxxxxxxxxx, fell ill and wanted to be buried there. His grave and those of his extended family are in the Baptist Church Cemetery behind the currently active church, built in 1898. The Baptist Church in Xxxxxxx is an offshoot of the original Baptist Church in Xxxxxxxxxx. Another house of worship, the Israel Synagogue, was built and is currently inactive. Both houses of worship have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. Xxxxxxxxxx used to be of the Town of Xxxxx, but the inhabitants decided to annex xxxxxxx because it was only 4 miles away. Xxxxxxxxxx was originally a swamp but became forested and dry. It is in a valley surrounded by hills and the Xxxxx xxxxxx River runs through it. William Xxxxxxx built a tannery, and James Xxxx, also a prominent resident, was a merchant and politician and invested in Xxxxxxx tannery. Xxxxxxxxxx had shops and mills and was a bustling community. This was back in the day in the early 1800's when coffee was 36 cents a pound, a gallon of brandy was $1.00, and panthers roamed the hills. The Ontario & Western Railway (the O&W) mainly contributed to the fast growth of the area in the late 1800's up through the 1930's. The railroad served the surge of building of summer hotels and houses. Xxxxxxxxxx was a popular railroad stop on the O&W and became touted as a pretty village in the heart of the country. Xxxxxxxxxx was officially founded and in the early 1900's and it was considered a peaceful resting destination spot. Within two decades Xxxxxxxxxx had become so popular that it was no longer a quiet, peaceful place. Main Street was so clogged with throngs of people shopping that cars couldn't get through. There were listed 39 hotels and resorts in Xxxxxxxxxx, later upwards to 100. After the Great Depression, however, many businesses failed. The large resort hotels still thrived - the Grand Hotels, Hillsides, and Xxxxxx Hill to name a few. The Xxxxxxxxx Hotel was built in the 1920's and was the prize of Xxxxxxxxxx. A well-known landmark, Xxxxxxxxx named after a family, was made famous by the railroad surveyors. It thrived through the 1960's as a fun place to stay. Unfortunately, over the decades there was a decline. The popularity of the railroad through the Xxxxxxxxx diminished and the last trains ran through Xxxxxxxxxx in the late 1950's. Vacationers flocked to New Jersey and Long Island beaches and the vogue of the Xxxxxxxxx waned. The doors of those huge resorts began to close where there had been very successful night clubs, comedy acts, and indoor shopping meccas. The highway Route xxx called "The Xxxxxx" was built and ran through Xxxxxxxxxx, parallel to Main Street. Much of the highway was built right over the railroad bed. There was a stoplight (the only one on the Route) which slowed traffic, and tourists would stop in the hamlet to explore. There was a brief revival of Xxxxxxxxxx in the 1990's. A handful of enthusiastic business owners worked together to bring Xxxxxxxxxx to life. A Café, owned by Tom and Michele, was opened in 1989 and helped to kickstart new growth on Main Street: another restaurant, an antique shop, a coffee shop, a silk-screening studio, a tattoo parlor, a video store and a beauty salon, among others. However, Xxxxxxxxxx would soon suffer again. Route xx was going to be converted to Interstate xxx the stoplight would be removed, and the highway would bypass the town, which had an adverse impact on the flow of traffic towards Main Street. Travelers became confused how to get to Xxxxxxxxxx, which was now an exit off the highway - Exit xxx It had lost it's feeling of a destination spot and most businesses on Main Street, and ones that had been on the highway, pulled out. However, miraculously many businesses are still in operation today. The Department of Transportation completed the bypass of Xxxxxxxxxx. They improved the roads and signage, and planted flowering trees and plants, and installed sidewalks and a municipal parking lot, and restored the Railroad path which runs along the river. This has now spurred growing interest in the community's future growth. The Railroad path in Xxxxxxxxxx is now an active Rails to Trails, and a community effort by Xxxxxxxxxx is ongoing to beautify it with flowers and signage, and plan to connect it to the Town of Xxxxxxx to make it a longer trail for walking and biking. New businesses are beginning to anchor on Main Street just in the last year. Revitalization is forthcoming.
