It’s nice to see him acknowledge the fans. Him popping up the comments on screen and doing the AMA on Reddit really made me happy. I met Soul on the these days tour. I still have my meet and greet pass to this day. Soul has one of the brightest smiles I’ve ever seen. The way music moves these days you learn about a rapper one week and forget him the next. But souls music will always have an impact on me and my relationship. I frequently tell my wife “I love you in a place where there is no space and time” I truly mean that. Thank you Soul. It hurt me to see that you’ve been going through a tough time mentally. It makes me feel so guilty because when we met I was in such a terrible place as well. Now I’ve become so much happier and have had 2 lovely kids. I wish and pray for your happiness.

I’m a Mom and my son has been struggling to finish what he starts. He completely shuts himself off to the family. But I never give up. Recently, out of hurt and frustration, I texted him that I’m tired of being the one to always reach out to him to check up on him or communicate. He’s in another state and is struggling to come back home, but because he didn’t succeed out of state with his plans, he feels like a failure. In response to my text, he texted me this song and said he has it on repeat and it reflects how he feels. I had an idea, but listening to this song helped me understand better. I see a lot of the comments relating as well. Can any of you help a Mom to further understand what to say or do to help him. He’s a good guy. Loves to help people and loves animals. But He says he’ only has two emotions . Extremely happy or extremely sad.

When this song first showed up in my KZread Music app I was just trying to get through another day at work. I initially didn't know that it was an Ab-Soul song, but then I heard your voice and I instantly locked in and OMG the message was SO on point (and necessary in the moment) I listened to it on repeat like 10 times in a row. I also make it a point to listen to it at least once a day. Your music has always served as a form of therapy and I've been listening to you since I first heard of TDE back in 2007. I love TDE and every artist on the label but I always felt like you should have been the breakout artist over Kendrick just because of your lyrical capabilities and message (my opinion) but my guess is that that type of exposure probably would have been more harmful than helpful to you so I get it now. All in all I just want you to know that you are loved and you are needed. You have a gift that can and has helped so many others deal, cope and battle their depression and anxiety. You are a cure brother!! Not just for Hip-Hop but for mental health in general. Keep blessing us with your gift!!

Lost my brother July 2nd, he fought like hell against the things he faced with racial stigma, his mental health and substance abuse, but the battles over now. This song comforts me when I'm stricken with survivors guilt, I try to find peace believing he's watching over me and our family and knowing I'll do what I can to fill his shoes, it wasn't the responsibility I was prepared for but I know he'd believe in me to do the right things now, 3 years clean and I'm just glad he got to see me get here and to know he was proud

I was very close to ending my life and this one song pulled me straight out of that dark place. Someone said he only gets recognition in features, it is simply cause he’s better than most on a track. Sad he gets the respect/recognition on a feature. Ab is just too deep and goes over peoples head on Soulo tracks. Most people have to listen and actually listen and analyze what he says on a track to appreciate the art he puts out. An example I love to point out is his song “bloody waters”, probably the best track on the black panther album beside kings dead, which is a banger and easily recognized more than bloody waters. I had to listen to bloody waters multiple times because a lot of his wordplay and double entendres flew over my head the first time I heard it. The song is damn near a golden standard. I’m ranting at this point but Ab-Soul been going through it, he’s a “diamond ring in the trash”. So under appreciated by the masses yet heavily pressured by his close followers. I say this because I felt the jab he threw at us on Q’s “That Part” (Black HippY remix). Quality work takes time, and just like all of us he has to “Do Better” than his last project or else his work looks lazy and deteriorating. He tells us thru his lyrics he been struggling fighting his demons. We all have our struggles and we can always Do Better, but the Setbacks are real and we can’t get stuck and cry about the time we hit new high score and haven’t been able to overcome the bar we set. The moment you stop and get unmotivated by the high standard you set, you are done. Don’t give up take it a step at time. I typed this out and WILL TAKE MY OWN ADVICE. been a TDE fan since i was 12-13 & im 25 rn but i would not have made it this long if it wasn’t for the contribution Ab-Soul had on my life. Soul Cry was the song that stuck with me the most through my depression & illuminate was the one that motivated me when i needed it. recently i’ve been battling similar thoughts and i got through it before hearing this song but i think it’s because i got through it TO hear this song. now i have it forever to help when i’m down. thank you ab-soul, my biggest regret is not ever being able to see you perform live but i will next time you tour.

Love that "Survivor's Guilt" is capitalized. Like the Joey Badass song Soul appears on and talks about Pro Era and Capital Steez, who tragically committed suicide by jumping from a roof. The amount of craftmanship in Ab-Soul's work is incredible and only matched by the likes of say Kendrick and Ye.
