Aaron Rodgers’ Challenging Journey To Self Love & Mental Health | Aubrey Marcus Podcast

In a sports world where every word and every action is scrutinized by pundits and bloggers alike, it is rare that an athlete at the top of the game shares the raw and vulnerable truth. On this unprecedented podcast, Super Bowl winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers opens up with radical authenticity about his challenging journey to self love, and the Ayahuasca experience that preceded his back to back MVP seasons. This is a look behind the veil of one of the greatest and most enigmatic superstars of our time, as he reclaims the narrative of his own story.
Among many other topics, we discuss the necessity to see beyond the polarity of political partisanship, his actual beliefs on the pandemic, and what it means to be a leader both on and off the field. I am honored to call him a friend and brother, and grateful to share this podcast full of laughter, tears, and most importantly: heart.

As a lifelong packers fan, an Aaron Rodgers fan and following him for years and seeing his appearances on the Pat Mcafee show. I can only expect that the mainstream media will try and tear him down. For this reason is why I love this man so much as a human in today's society. No matter what is said about him he is unapologetically himself, thoughtful, caring, intelligent, and absorbent to what improves himself. All should aspire to get to headspace like that.

It's inspiring to see a man like Aaron open up and share his journey, especially coming from such a tough sport like football where there's little room for weakness and vulnerability. There's no telling how many other souls Aaron will inspire. The mainstream media will try to rip 10 second soundbites from this to fit their own narrative, but anyone who actually watches this podcast will see that Aaron is a kind, self-aware, deep thinker.

Is it weird that USA Today featured Aaron Rodgers with a link to this Aubrey Marcus Podcast? No, there hasn't been a negative psychedelics article in the Mainstream since about 2016. It's a counter-trend to Trump. Although I believe that psychedelics is more libertarian, not leftist-liberal.

Combat vet here. Psychedelics really helped me understand myself and things around me more and how things work. I was always so curious about why things are the way they are. I now have a peace about most things and find it easier to love myself and care for others. I'm a huge cheesehead. Arod is my favorite of all time. This, I feel, was one of the bravest things I’ve ever seen a pro athlete do… speak from their heart and discuss matters of truth. Thank you for incredible courage Aaron and Aubrey. Two exceptional men paving the way for the divine balance of masculinity and femininity. I could see Aaron retiring in SF, he’d be supported to the moon and back :)

But there is only one way to live. And if you live that one way - those thousand won’t matter.” Much love to everyone from the swamps of Deep South Georgia USA. Country folks can survive.

@@GoogleAccount00 I think the way is different for everyone, but for me the one way to live is being fully present in every moment of every day. Which is something I work on daily and find myself getting better and better. And yeah I’ve had plenty of shrooms. Highest dose so far was 10 grams dried on an empty stomach. I’m 39 and didn’t try shrooms until 2016 when I moved back to the farm in Georgia from the swamp in DC. Changed my life. I haven’t touched alcohol since, I’ve been fully carnivore / keto for 4+ years without a single cheat day, I workout like a beast, I started making my bed every morning and keeping my house nice and clean whereas as a left handed political marketer creative type I was always messy. I quit watching porn. And I can’t hunt anymore cause I can’t make myself pull the trigger (I pretty much eat like a dozen eggs every single day). All because the mushroom told me to. Also got my door kicked down but I’ll save that story for later.

Wow, my last mushroom experience taught me something very similar, i kept being brought back to the same conclusion over and over after asking so many different questions that one thing mattered most and that was unconditional love for myself and everything in the universe! I would say to myself “ well what about this? “ and what was answered back to me was something along the lines of “that’s great and all but you know it’s all about LOVE”! There is this moment where the curtains are lifted and what is revealed becomes this moment of awe, and you realize it’s what you’ve always known your entire life but only forgot over time like most humans tend to do and then it’s this “Aha” moment and all I could do was laugh and cry simultaneously ❤️ My selfish ways of living we’re also revealed and I found myself reaching out to loved ones the next day apologizing for my selfish behavior even though most people didn’t see me in that light! Mushrooms saved many years of a meaningless life and I thank God everyday for blessing me with this experience 🙏

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. It really gives me hope that with that self love comes a shield from everything that gets thrown your way. Much like Aaron I have grown up with football and a deep love of football. While he was watching Joe Montana I was watching Brett Favre. I think people expect athletes to be super human. I appreciate Aaron showing that he is a human with a super talent but he’s just a human who is as human as the rest of us. It’s refreshing to see the openness to share that with the world. What an interview. By far one of the most misunderstood humans that has a giant spotlight on him. It’s been a gift to be able to watch his entire career as a lifelong packers fan. And to hear him speak like this, just really brings about, in myself, sincere appreciation for who this guy is. I myself am a fan of the psychedelics and recently had a trip where I came to a lot of the same conclusions. To forgive is divine, especially when it comes to the self. Wish nothing but the best for the guy and hope someday he can find that reconciliation with his family. I know a lot of packers fans will be really upset with this interview, and that’s okay. Those people just do not understand what those psychedelic experiences are like and how immensely powerful it can be for your mental and spiritual health. Seriously, love and deeply appreciate you Aaron. Go fucking ball out this season and get you another one of these 💍. In the end, the NFL is the sport most prone to luck in the playoffs. The teams are very closely matched generally, a key injury, or a call this way or that way can easily decide a game. It's not a system designed for the cream to rise to the top (like the NBA or MLB for example where the playoffs are 3 out of 5 or 4 out of 7).

As I’ve stepped into a healer in form of a bodywork practitioner (reiki+stretching+massage) I have seen, felt and heard transformations quicker and more genuinely than any western medicine practice. The body truly does keep the score. Aaron and Aubrey, you rock for speaking from truth and spreading this enlightenment with the collective. I grew up a Favre fan loving him to death because of love for the game, the ups the downs but just how vulnerable he was Whether it was him trying to retire then play I never cared because the love he always showed tackling wrs in the end zone. transitioning from my packers losing losing my childhood hero in Aaron it was a tough pill to swallow. To be totally honest as a packer fan I wasn’t the biggest fan of Aaron for years almost until the last two years I thought his attitude towards the game was he was better than the team and the players seeing him open up and seeing his true self I started to have admiration for him. I was at the 49er game in Santa Clara with the huge comeback wearing a Favre jersey next time I go to a packer game I will be wearing number 12. Thank you for opening up and being so humble doing so although I am now 30 years old you are now my hero as Favre was when I was seven years old.

Derek, I followed a very similar path. Favre made me fall in love with football for the reasons you mentioned, you could tell he just really loved playing a kids game for a living. His diva attitude in his later years, combined with the glimpse of what Rodgers could be during that 1 game in Dallas, made me an instant Rodgers fan. I ordered my Rodgers jersey the next day and told my friends he was gonna be great. The past few years of him opening up on non-main stream media sources has solidified him as a role model for me..even in adulthood. I wouldn't call him my hero or idol as Favre was to me as a kid. But its a very similar respect.

"Beware of Unearned Wisdom"- Carl Jung. "It was Carl Jung who said that and he was talking about the use of psychedelic drugs. Wisdom is not given. You gotta earn it life turbulence, transitions, shattered hearts. You have to hit lows and go through your hero’s journey, slay your dragons, to find the golden nuggets of wisdom. If you don’t earn it, it’s not true wisdom." Personally, for Aaron, I would say Matt LaFleur is advanced in terms of wisdom and I doubt he's ever taken psychedelics of any type-he's just a good guy with a great moral compass (and, likely contributed more towards the back-to-back MVP years than Ayahuasca did.) Matt shows up for his wife, kids & team; most of that is not sexy, 75% is a grind, but though is competitive, he embodies empathy, selflessness & concern for others. He doesn't seek the limelight nor self- aggrandize though he could as he is so handsome. I am a big fan of Aaron but wish he would model after the quieter, real deal. I am no stranger to psychedelics, I've taken LSD, Psilocybin, Peyote etc. The oceanic, mystical, religious experience is undeniable but I see very few who have integrated these experiences in any appreciable way.

All of which makes us much more than just a "Professional Athlete" etc. We all know Aaron Rodgers the talented football player, but it's becoming less and less interesting for me to see this one side of a person, but to see the many other more important and fascinating aspects of someone's life. There are just so many more opportunities to find commonalities and be able to openly share and embrace those as opposed to the superficial layer(s) that most of us get to witness. Let me begin by saying that I am not medically trained, not well read on case studies, etc... I am 33 minutes into this podcast. My father is suffering from kidney failure. He was on dialysis a time before with less than 10% of his kidney function. He has preached to me broadly across my life the importance of believing/manifesting and confidence/heart/determination. The first time he was on dialysis, he told me it was extremely trying, but he would tell his body and his mind that they were going to heal. He stuck loosely to a certain diet that doctors recommend he stick to, when his body and energy levels allowed he would work and push himself to build his stamina and strength. He listened to his body and took breaks when it told him he was overdoing it, but be always told his body to heal, and with dedication, focus, and true unadulterated belief in his efforts, miraculously his kidneys did regain function to the point of him no longer having to have dialysis. My dad said his doctor was perplexed and commented that when kidneys were deteriorated to the point that his were, it was damn near unheard of to regain function enough to not need dialysis. Unfortunately, he wavered in his effort to keep himself healthy and strong. He is now worse off than he has ever been, and is on dialysis three times a week. He has stared death in the face more times than most people do in a lifetime within these last 2 years (never COVID related), and says he feels mentally defeated and his will to fight is waning. I am in the process of getting enough money together to move him to me, or I, my brother, and my daughter to him. I have a firm belief that if he's with us and his morale is raised, he can recover even from the depth he has currently sank. I felt it was appropriate to share this anecdote as testament to the conversation. I believe in miracles, medical and otherwise. I also believe if you are dedicated and have the drive and want, you can answer the whys of your life and become the projection of your greater self, Aaron Rodgers confirmed that for me today. Thank you fellas for this podcast, the magnificent conversation, and master class lessons on life.

Also the auto type didn’t help me spell out Ayahuasca which isn’t surprising considering how many vails it’ll lift. Shout out Aaron Rodgers frfr
