MLB Tonight did a pretty decent breakdown of Judge's swing. His load seems a little mechanically off and his weight seems to be pulling him towards LF rather than right center field (hence why's he's been getting beat a lot on the outside corner where we would normally see him go oppo with authority). Also his stride length seems a bit shorter, which could be why he seems to be spinning rather than hitting through the ball

This I noticed, Definitely pulling off pitches and rolling it over to left side of infield. With his strength he should be taking outside stuff other way and force pitchers to come inside. He will figure it out not a doubt in my mind.

    1. Judge's hands begin further out in the 2023 footage, which creates more balance since his hands don't start back and wound up, leading to him pulling off rather than swinging through the pitch. 1b. Judge's hands pull back relative to his body in the 2024 footage where his shoulders and hands remain square in the 2023 footage until his leg comes down, better synchronizing his movements. 2. When Judge swings in the 2023 footage, he keeps his arms closer to his body throughout the swing which helps maintain balance and bat control throughout the swing. 3. Judge's foot in the 2024 footage is flatter throughout the swing leading to some of the issues in his lack of balance. 3b. Judge's foot lands bladed to the ground in the 2023 footage and flat in the 2024 footage. All of these are minor issues, any one of which could be the cause of his issues. Any way you slice it, I think the primary issue is him having issues with balance through the swing leading to lessened bat control which causes him to foul off and whiff on pitches he'd otherwise be crushing.

if he's healthy, I think he'll figure it out, but my fear is that he is compensating for his toe which he said is going to be a chronic issue.

He's also way more open in his stance this year. If you look at last year's stance, his front foot is a little closer to the plate where you can't even see the back part of his leg. This year with the stance more open, you can see the bend in his back knee and the back part of his leg.

The camera angle is different in these two ballparks, I believe that to be an optical illusion.

I think his stance is a bit open than last year's stance. I've been saying this to people at work 2-3 weeks ago.

People are overlooking one thing……Judge didn’t start his MLB career until age 25. His prime will be short and considering he’s already into his 30’s we might be witnessing the inevitable decline all players go through.

@@MichaelReel-ze1un Most players start their MLB career earlier, Judge’s prime will be short. Many players start the decline in their 30’s. Whether it’s aging or injury, it happens. Mike Trout is only 32 and can no longer stay healthy

@MikeHart72 Yea playing him in CF is not smart if you do not want wear & tear on him..I am not sure the answer but Stanton there is an issue with Dominguez & Jones coming and wanting to retain Soto or Verdugo .

@@MichaelReel-ze1un So Cashman should pay him 40 million a year to be a DH ? The contract is a mistake. Judge got paid for a season he will never replicate. I do expect him to snap out of this funk but it won’t be enough to justify a 40 million pay check. That money could have been used to sign 2 or 3 other players who would bring more balance and consistency for the whole line up. Soto will explore the free agent market, this is almost a guarantee. I don’t expect him in pinstripes next year no matter how much success he has with the Yankees. Teams will give him a blank check and tell him to enter the dollar amount. Where will Cashman find this kind of money ? Signing Judge to that ridiculous contract is a mistake the organization will feel for years to come

He's definitely been off-balance this season, and can't seem to reach the outside/low corner. I think he should try stepping closer to the plate, he always looks more comfortable taking a pitch 6 inches inside, than swinging at a pitch on the outside corner.

good video i but 1 concern i have is you see you how much more flexed his left hamstring is on the right side more than the that his left leg on the it may be the lighting but it seems to me he compensating his toe almost like he doesnt trust it yet and when he does watch out but i can be completely wrong

Derek- im no pro hitting coach. Me- these coaches now dont make adjustments to their players until after a humongous slump. Also most of our guys have been pulling off.

It should be painfully obvious the team needs BETTER HITTING. With that in mind why not trade for Arraez from Miami, packaging Torres with a prospect not named Dominguez or Jones? Neither Torres or Arraez are great defensively, but Arraez is close to .100 points better average wise, and the perfect leadoff hitter. Move Volpe to 9th, take off some pressure.
