If I had to rely on meetings I'd be fucked, my high esteem nearly killed me, not low self self esteem, along with pride, all that miss information about resentment and pray for the people who anger you, that is not in the steps but got put in the back of the book in the story's Emmet Fox, Cart before the Horse , the secret is step 11 not to get angry God Consious stay awake, lot of shit spoke in meetings

Meetings helped me a lot in the beginning... mainly because they showed me the way to God ... I don't think I would have found him without the help I found at meetings . That said I goto meetings now for two reasons .. one it gives me happiness and reminds me of where I was when I first started and second to hopefully be of help to another .

When we open our eyes and look out the window, the Sun rises and the intricate details of a simple rose is astounding. I don't see myself as being an alcoholic and don't want to put out a negative affirmation about myself, so I don't follow the AA 12 steps; *but* I do acknowledge that I have an addictive personality, and I am working on that by reducing alcohol, cigarettes and the "legal" drugs bit by bit - like coffee and food - *and* that I have to work on my humbleness to overcome my ego which tells me the lie of being able to do everything by myself. Hence I downloaded many AA prayers here to pray daily to *the divine* (not to the - guilt inflicting bible creator saviour designed by the church for their own purpose.- And I came here just to let you know that I found this the best of all sermons for addressing profound issues others don't. Thank you.

If one is making steady progress in Recovery, at a certain point the realization comes that continued sobriety is not about drinking or not drinking at all but about restoring meaning and purpose to our lives. This is practiced by aligning our will with that of a life sustaining restorative power instead of with the petty, selfish desires of our fearful and animalistic lower natures. When we lived at the mercy of our cravings we suffered. When we acted on a "God help me. What do I do?" moment, we had a breakthrough but one in need of protection like a small bird, healthy and growing but not yet able to fly on strong and agile wings.

Why do people think reading bits from the Big Book on meditation with a soothing voice and light music playing in the back IS meditation? Maybe it's just me :-)

Because it is! Today I found this post and played it while getting ready for a stressful work day. So grateful! It focused my mind. It cleared away the mental chatter. It reminded me of passages I hadn't read in awhile. I brought me back to center. Maybe it isn't the classical picture of meditation, but it certainly is very helpful.

I agree w t person who said that reading t BB in a soft tone is not t intent of meditation-step 11 in t step book can further assist u in t wonderful journey of wordlessness, which is t state brought on by meditation. Keep searching if u r looking for true meditative experiences-counting breaths to 4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, when thoughts break in DO NOT FOLLOW THEM-LET THEM GO-This is meditation, letting go of thought, words... Robyn Schultz this could be categorized as a sort of guided meditation. But let's say you are absolutely right. In any case, why not focus on gratitude for someone who took time to make this. Gratitude that it is helping people stay sober, just for today instead of pointing out how this is not a true meditation. This is exactly how we ruin our relationships with people. Gratitude for every little goodness someone extends to us is the magnet that attracts miracles to our lives. Pause when you want to criticize. Speak words of gratitude instead. Works wonders in all relationships.
