A2 Biology - Genetic engineering (OCR A Chapter 21.4)

Genetic engineering is the technique of transferring a gene from one organism to the genome of another. It has many important applications from medicine (eg. making insulin) to agriculture (eg. GM plants to be resistant to pests, diseases and certain conditions). In this video, we will go through the details of the process of genetic engineering.

As this topic isn’t on the advanced information my teachers skimmed past it really quickly so I wasn’t too confident but this video and your playlist on manipulating genomes has genuinely helped me so much thank you so much for all the videos you’re a life saver!!!!!

Came across your channel last week and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve seen for OCR Biology. I struggle dealing with the sheer content in Biology but your vids make it so much easier to learn and understand. I just wanted to ask how much extra work through the textbook or revision guides should we do after watching your vids ? I’m currently working through the revision guide, whilst watching your videos, along with the occasional look in the textbook if I want something in slightly more detail. Would this, along with doing lots of questions and past papers, be enough to achieve an A in the exam ?

Thank you very much! Your support means a lot to me and I'm very glad to hear how you've found my videos helpful! And also it's great to hear that you're putting hard work into your revision :) You got the right idea, but I'll put extra emphasis on the importance of exam question practice. Once you've learnt the content of a topic well, then do exam questions AND check the mark scheme. Learn the keywords and phrases that they often look for in exams. Practise writing clear and concise answers, as waffling on is not ideal. I'd recommend that you check out two websites here: 1. Google "Science retrieval roulette" and you should get to a pink page. Click on the drop-down boxes to find the right course (ie. OCR A-level biology) and pick your topic on the second drop-down box next to it. 5 random questions will then pop up in the big box. Do them, then click on the box to reveal the answers in the back. This will help you check if you know the basic knowledge of the topics. 2. Google "Physics and Maths tutor". The website has got topic-specific exam questions and mark schemes. Just make sure to find the ones for OCR A! Hope this helps :)

Of course! The major difference between exam boards is the style of exam questions and mark schemes, but otherwise the science is the same :) I'd suggest that you watch the video, then check with your textbook and see if there are any details that may be slightly different, just to make sure you won't miss anything out!
