Why are you undertaking? It’s very bad driving and it’s very bad lane discipline, rule 267 of the Highway Code states “overtake only on the right” and rule 268 of the Highway Code, which applies to motorways and unrestricted dual carriageways states “do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake, in congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right, in these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right, do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake” and also rule 134 of the Highway Code states “in congested road conditions do not change lanes unnecessarily, merging in turn is recommended but only if safe and appropriate when vehicles are travelling at a very low speed, e.g. when approaching road works or a road traffic incident, it is not recommended at high speed”.
