A young male lion coalition return to take their fathers territory

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Male lions can survive solitarily but always seek to join or even take over a territory. Young males sometimes move from one territory to another, fight, and assume dominance over new territories. The young males in this sighting already have their own territory but wanted more than they could chew.

Fig tree boys(sons) were sired by the Rekero males(dad's) who are the sons of the Notch boys. The rekeros sired Fig tree boys years ago in fig tree pride in the Mara reserve. They then abandoned that pride and moved into Naboisho conservancy taking it over as well as the 3 different prides in it. At this time the fig tree boys dispersed into Ol kinyei conservancy which is North of Naboisho. They took over Lemuny pride and are in charge, weirdly the Fig tree boys have been seen with their fathers in the same area with the same kills with no aggression. However when their cubs from Naboisho were big enough, Rekeros decide to expand into Ol kinyei and steal from their sons who fortunately fought back.

Doesn’t look like they came to fight, they still know that’s their father. Those 3 young lions are big enough to take on any single fully grown lion. They just miss home and wanted to return, you can see the pain in their faces.

Good example of lions preferring to take the safe option instead of bumbling through life attacking everything, like some believe. Lions do not fight to the death on the regular, and are aware of their limits unless desperation drives them. These youngsters wouldn't hesitate to kill an old or sick male, but as seen in the video, will retreat from healthy males of equal number. Take overs generally involve the newcomer having a overwhelming advantage, with fights between equally powered lions being an outlier..

@@An_Actual_Ratyoung male withdraw because they were not up to their parents. young males wouldn't stand a chance in a confrontatin if they had started a fight with their fathers it would have been a disaster. at least one of the young male could have been killed ....and the others seriously injured .a smart decision . at the moment they are not at the discretion of the fathers a fight is reached when both sides do not give up. dominant male will always try to intimidate. if it cannot be done, they will go to battle these males are young and easily intimidated now. but things will change in 1/2 year.

So can someone explain to me please. Are the sons really attempting to dethrone the fathers? Wouldn't that mean they may be taking over the pride with their mothers in it? I thought that was like an unwritten rule for the sons not to take over the pride with their mothers in it???

Not sure how many were the fathers, 2 or 3 ? These fathers seems strong and in good condition, would have been dramatic for the 3 sons to fight them as they are not "full" adults built. If it happens one day, the sons fighting their fathers and / or uncles what a disaster that will be, I can't believe this can happen and lead to the deaths of one or more of them. Hope the youngsters to find a good space to establish and wish them a long life. About the fathers, shall they live many, many more years ! 🤞🙏

They are emotionally enmeshed (which means they're practically speaking to each other telepathically). The leader (most confident) would champion the cause. In this case, the group most likely had high success in their territory, which gave them confidence, the most confident decided to expand (the leader), the others followed up until the point they felt the presence of their fathers. The most confident (leader) lost confidence, and the domino effect went down the chain to his brothers (coalition partners), and they split.

So the lions that currently own the territory are their fathers? So say if the young coalition did take it over, wouldn't all the females be their mothers, sisters, and cousins? There would be no female unrelated to them to mate with. I even suspect they didn't put in much effort to fight because it was family, compared to if they found new territory with lions unrelated to them.
