Never had to do anything like that living in New York and Indiana! greenecountymo.gov/assessor/forms.php Get with the program Missouri!

That's why you don't see that many small businesses making it. They are taxed right out of business. Here in Wisconsin if you have a small business your best off call it a hobby, The taxes are cheaper... My sister is a professional tax auditor and I told her I was going to start a YT channel. She said don't make over $5,000.00 and list it as a hobby... Or don't start it... She said that a man of my age could get drowned in taxes if I wasn't careful... Good video thanks for sharing it. Knowledge like this is good to share. Good job on your homework... Be blessed... BBE..

Some states that have owners of big businesses get crooked lawmakers to write laws that discourage small business just because they don't want any competition. I found out about that when researching 'Organic' farming and found that big Ag writes the laws in some states and that they purposely write the laws to make it burdensome on small farmers who do not have accountants and lawyers on the payroll. They put in things like any equipment that is used for organic farming cannot be used for anything else and is taxed separately to keep small farmers from renting any equipment...the Big Ag does not need to rent anything, they own all of their own equipment.

This doesn't surprise me. I get an official looking letter every year asking me what trees I have on my property. Of course I don't answer it, it's none of their business what trees I have or don't have here. They've gotten way too nosey with intrusions into our lives. I homeschooled my Son from mid High School on, I taught him about each of the Wars, how and why they happened and researched our Families involvement. As well as the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Politics. And bought an old retired Police car, which became a Taxi and then was retired from that and I bought it for less than 200.00. I had it towed to my house, (it wasn't working) so on his 15th birthday I threw him the keys and told him to troubleshoot it and learn to work on it, get a job to buy the parts and get online and join groups to learn and it would be his on his 16th birthday. He got it running in 20 mins and that was his first car! We also lived in a college town, so the students would throw away things at the end of the semester, and we'd pick up old computers and take them home and work on them. We went to the recycled book store and bought old computer repair books and learned together how to build a computer from the motherboard up. We also learned DOS (the basic operating system) and then HTML (which was before the program Front Page 98 came out) so we designed our own webpages using code. He learned things that most college kids didn't learn in their 4 years studying. And the last year we studied, he read the local Police Academy manuals where he learned the laws for the State of Texas, as well as how Police Officers are taught. When I signed him out of school, all I had to do it write a statement saying that I would be Homeschooling him, and that I would be teaching Math, Science, History and 'Good Citizenship.' He has more 'street smarts' and common sense than anyone that has attended the brainwashing 'regular school' where his Friends attended. You mentioned that some people have to pay taxes on everything they own, I heard several years ago, that the UK taxes their people on EACH TV they own, whether they watch it or if it's a working TV or not. Sounds crazy to me....but then again, we fought the British to become independent for a reason, I guess. And they didn't learn the lesson it seems.... Stay safe!

When I lived in Northeast Ohio they had a taxing agency called CCA (Central Collection Agency) Their tax forms were 10 times worse than IRS forms. Cities, Villages and towns would join this fiasco and you would have to file Federal, State and CCA returns each year. There was a way out of this mess by buying a home in a Township, as townships were not legally able to enter into this CCA. When I was ready to look for a home I would download a list of the CCA member communities and eliminate all of them from contention. I was able to avoid this CCA tax from 1980 thru 2014 just by residing in non-member Townships. So Doug and Ashley are correct when they say to do your research. By the way in 2014 I moved out of Ohio. Ohio is great as long as you reside in a non-CCA township. Later.

We live in PA many issues with taxes. Depending on what county you live in. We live in a county with relatively low property taxes. We moved here 25 years ago we moved from a suburb of Pittsburgh in Allegheny county, 25 miles nw to eastern Beaver County. We went from a smallish 3 bedroom 1 bath house on a 35x100 lot. We moved to a converted barn with 4 bedrooms and 1 full and 2 1/2 bathrooms. On 4 acres with 24 x 30 garage and another 2 level outbuilding. Our property taxes went down 800 a year. And after 25 years our taxes are still low. And now barely over the tax rate from 25 years ago of our old house in town. PA has State income tax ?% and we pay 1% local . But now that we are mostly retired we have 0% tax on investment Income. We still pay income tax on our rental property income. Our worst tax is automobile fuel road tax. We have no personal property tax. License fees for cars pretty low. Until you get into over 1 ton trucks. Our home schooling has some higher standards our daughter went to public schools but we pulled our son out in 6 grade and he did 6-12 in cyber school. Which we loved. (Little to no left wing doctorization. ). We were able to do our work and still here what was going on in school. I know that there are many issues with Michigan a bad one is no fault auto insurance. Causes higher premiums . (PA had it for a while but highly revised the law to where we are now with normal insurance.). I have been traveling to Michigan since I was a small child. I still go usually 1 or 2 weekends every year. We go to the town of Manistee . I have many friends there. I love to visit and love the beautiful state. But not real fond of the winters. Too much like where my wife is from, in nw PA. But taxes are a big thing and you have to look at that when buying a home, and starting a business.

Enjoy Alaska ;) Illinois has the 2nd highest home/property taxes in the US, only NJ is higher. Most counties have very strict zoning laws on what kind of livestock and how many you can own. If your property is zoned agricultural in Illinois, you can not run a commercial business. So in Illinois if you want bees you have to be zoned agricultural, but then you can't run a commercial business like re-selling on eBay and can't manufacture something like birdhouses on property zoned agriculture. You have to be zoned commercial to carry an inventory and sell stuff, and you have to be zoned manufacturing to make things. This isn't state law and it is different in all 102 counties of Illinois. Iowa is basically the exact same way with their county zoning laws. They can make doing business impossible. Curtis Stone just highlighted a farmer in Iowa they are threatening to shut down because he's trying to do more than just grow food on his property zoned agriculture. For small businesses involved with agriculture, Iowa and Illinois are among the worst states in the US because of county laws, don't let the state laws fool you. Michigan has very strict livestock state laws and tried to put Mark Baker in jail because he had Mangalista pigs and the state didn't like that breed. You did some awesome research and good for you wading through the morass. Don't overlook what your actual property rights will be in those states also. Nowhere in Illinois, Iowa, or Michigan would allow me as much freedom as I have on my property in Arkansas. And I have mountains. Great video, I enjoyed your perspective!

Alaska is good for homeschool families :) We hear you, there are so many laws and things to consider when looking for a home, which is sad for the land of the free. Not trying to argue, but it looks like the problem with Mark Baker was the Russian Boars that he had which are invasive and are also regulated in Arkansas. It is illegal to transport or sell a feral hog in Arkansas so it looks fairly similar. We read that Indiana revised their feral hog description for the better because of that case so at least there was some good from it all. We aren't trying to root for Illinois and you are right about zoning. You really have to check, every state, county, and city level that you are planning on moving to to make sure you can reasonably do what you want to do. Pure Living for Life did a video a couple months ago about building codes and permits which had some good points about that. They moved to an area with no building codes but still needed a state level permit to put their septic in.

Personal property tax on something that has been taxed already and paid off by the owner is the government stealing from the people. Really considering moving across the border to Illinois. You both are definitely right about this has to be talked about. People in general just go with the program but this program is holding the people of the state down from bettering themselves. That sounds like a depreciation nightmare. They don't want you to own anything. Any item posing any form of ongoing tax/registration is an item that you never truly own, but renting it from the county or state. They are making themselves landlords over items/animals that YOU bought and paid for; it's pretty effed up when you consider it. Many forms of taxation are unConstitutional, but they carry on anyway. About the only true, fair means would be to eliminate property/income taxes/registrations and go to only local/state/federal sales taxes on items and shave the obese fat found in the sheer amount of gov agencies/bureaucracy. You pay your tax when you purchase something, then you outright own it; that is Liberty. Texas actually isn't bad, but I know inventory tax is something businesses hate, and property taxes are high here.. but we do lack state income tax. Businesses galore are leaving Cali due to how restrictive, stifling and idiotic their business and environmental laws are over there for good reason. Freedom is getting to be a rare commodity.

Thank you for sharing. I live in Ontario Canada. That sounds ridiculous that tax. Here, if you own a small business lets say and you purchase an expensive camera you initially pay taxes on it wherever you purchased it. You list all equipment you owe but over time the value depreciates from use so why the heck would they keep taxing on each piece of equipment as it gets older and you need that expense to run your business and make an income. Its crazy there in the states for some things. I have heard from people who want huge gardens to grow lots of food in order to be self sufficient ect., I forget which states and they are not allowed to collect rainwater to feed their crops or else they will be taxed. Rain that falls naturally you cannot collect. That is obsurd. The next thing we will be taxed on the air that we breath I guarantee you that. Interesting to know, thanks again for sharing.

Small business is always hurt the most with these goofy things. Yes, we need to pay taxes to support government services. But, once you buy an item regardless of whether you use it in your business that should be it. What about the stapler or computer, etc. that you use personally as well as for business? Like Ashley said, it is crazy. Kudos for homeschooling. I homeschooled my sons. It is a great thing.

  • @lynnhamps7183

Here in England (the rest of the UK have similar laws but may differ slightly), you pay a simple income tax on your profits, and instead of being taxed on your equipment etc, you actually claim these expenses as a write-off...so if you work from home, you can claim back part of your mortgage for example and offset it against your income tax. This applies to all equipment, transport, petrol, property repairs, broadband, telephone, water, light and heating etc etc that contribute towards the business. This is to encourage people to become business owners, there are incentives, like start-up loans with very low interest rates and entrepreneur grants...it doesn't make sense to discourage people from becoming business owners that may well benefit the community and possibly even the country as a whole. One of the other things that has always 'boggled my mind' is how the different states have different tax rates, so when you shop, you have to add the tax onto the items you buy rather than the price just being on display so you know what you are paying....and don't get me started on health care costs..lol ....love your video's by the way, you both have a lovely gentle way about you.

There is a lot of wacky things done in our country. For our federal taxes, we have to write off what we use for our business, but the state taxes that do this tangible tax are the opposite. They want everything you use listed so they can tax you on them. It's weird. That's why we would only ever move to a state that doesn't do these taxes, or has an exemption for small businesses. Another thing that's weird unrelated to taxes is when people move to another state we have to get a new driver's license for that state. Why don't we just have a USA driver's license? People cross the state borders everyday and drive all over the country. Just another hassle and money grab. Thanks :)

@@diyfferent Wow, didn't realise that about your driving licences, if you, as an American, moved over here to the UK you are still allowed to use your American licence for the first 12 months and I believe that the same is true for myself in the States too, so surely they can co-ordinate a 'national' licence for its citizens..as you say, sounds like a money maker..I've heard American speed traps are also rife and a way to make cash from motorists too..we have speed cameras but they don't all work and can be seen from a mile away anyway, they are used as a safety feature to make you slow down rather than to try and catch you out so they can fine you. All the best x

The homeschooling laws are not about parent's rights, they are about the rights of the child to be educated. I taught at a private school for special needs students and the state was always bringing us kids who were "Homeschooled" but were never taught anything. They once brought me an eleven year old who did not even know the alphabet. They brought them to us because it was cheaper for the state to pay our tuition that it was to try to catch up the child in public school. Many, many people claim to be home schooling in states that don't check and the child grows up unable to have any kind of life because they can't even read or write. Many of the children we got were because the parents were drug addicts and they registered as homeschooled just so they could sleep all day and no one would know that the children were being abused and neglected because no one ever checked on them until the parents were arrested. Not everyone is honorable, not everyone has their child's best interest at heart, and child abusers use lax homeschooling laws to hide the abuse. www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-coleman-brightbill-turpin-homeschool-abuse-20180117-story.html

We don't believe in punishing everyone just because there "may" be a bad homeschooling parent in the mix. Studies have shown that most of the time homeschooled kids do better on standardized tests than public schooled kids. There are plenty of kids who go to public school who are abused everyday by their parents. Just because a kid goes to public school, does't mean they have a great life without any faults or problems. Most drug addicts send there kids to public school, (aka free daycare). Then they don't have to watch their kids all day. We have seen an extraordinary amount of public school kids who are bullies, can't spell, or do basic math. The kids in the states without any strict homeschool laws all do excellent as a whole, and there are never any issues worth changing the laws over.

Candide Thirtythree - oh please! So many schooled kids are so lacking, not only academically, but on social levels too. I ve had a childcare business for 35 years. This includes before and after school kids also. In those 35 years, and especially in the past 3 - 5 years, I ve seen a huge decline in behavior, listening ability, intelligence, and social interaction. It’s terrible. In my experience (homeschooled my 2 until they expressed desire to go to school. At that point I put them in a very strenuous academic private school. My kids were stellar students. And had to take entrance exam to even get in. They both aced that exam. One went there in 5th grade. The other started in 6th.) homeschooling parents know the responsibility that s in their shoulders and go to great pains to ensure a good education. We were friends with 3 or 4 other homeschooling families and ALL kids grew up, went to college and are now nurses, PA’s, teachers or learned a valued trade - one is a Master electrician, other has own business installing wood and pellet stoves and building and repairing chimneys. One is an aspiring singer/song writer. Every other child in that group were homeschooled through high school with the exception of my two. I agree that families should have the right to determine how they educate their children.

Canadian business property tax is sort of weird. So if you are a utility company using public land to move your product or you have a building sitting on public land, you are taxed on the square feet it takes up. Now with all of those things you listed, chairs, staplers, bees!!! In Canada they are business expenses. Chairs, pens, paper you name it. Those things are tax deductible, they are not taxed as adding value to your business, but as an expense of keeping your business running. Can you imagine what would happen if nobody ever kept bees because they were taxed?!!! That is the most repressive tax system I have ever heard of period. Glad you chose to live in a sane state.

In AR you pay personal property tax on vehicles, boats, trailers, RV's. Mobile homes are not real estate, so therefore are considered personal property. The amount you pay goes down each year in relation to the age of the "thing" . Fees for licensing or "tagging" your vehicles are very inexpensive in comparison to other states I have lived in. PP tax is much cheaper than the fees of licensing a vehicle in other states.

It's true that it can very often be cheaper but the idea of itemizing and reporting to the government the things you own so that you can be taxed on them is intrusive. It is also unfair taxation so it goes against us. It is especially unfair to businesses that get taxed on what they own and not how much they earn. Imagine two photographers doing the same work for the same pay but one gets taxed more because they have better equipment. It just doesn't sit right with us and we are happy that some states are trying to move away from it.

In Germany every year people take their stuff and sit it on the curb because they are taxed for all of the stuff they own. Right before we left there it was that time and some friends of ours got an entire bedroom suite it was so nice, it was an expensive one. They think it's cheaper to just buy new stuff than pay the tax.

I live in Pa. and am self employed have been all my life doing everything from Macrobiotic cooking, house cleaning, outside work to construction and I don't pay any TTP tax in fact my supplies for cleaning , clothes for work and using my car are tax write offs! Pa. is self governed and compared to NJ or a lot of other States much better in all ways to live! You can home school although I did not because I had to work all the time but I did not get them vaccinated based on my beliefs! There are some small local taxes or head tax which is tiny and the Earned Income which also is small! But based on my income and circumstances I usually end up not paying tax and you guys would qualify for the tax rebate for kids! You just have to watch where you move as you don't want to move where they are fracking. And our weather is pretty decent most of the time. I am in Bucks County which is above Philly and along the Delaware river. Virginia is also great it is similar to Pa. Although when I was there recently they do double tax stuff you buy so here in Pa. it is 6% and there it is something like 7% and a local like 5% so you end up paying 12 to 15% in sales tax. One was State and one was local which of course I did not like! Anyway hope some of this info helps!

We have lived here for almost 5 years and I am still trying to figure out the personal/business property tax. It is confusing and I'm not sure how they determine the tax rate. The first of every year they send out a list of your reported assets from the previous year and ask that you self report. "You are required by law to provide a list, indicating type, year purchased and original cost, for all tangible personal property, e.g. Vehicles, Computers & Office Equipment, Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment & Tooling, etc., sign and return before March 1st to avoid penalty."

It's a fair tax since everyone would have to pay them, and it's easy to collect. No forms, no hassles.
