A World Without Waste: Circular Economy | Climate For Change: Closing The Loop | Ep 2/2

Billions of tonnes of food, clothes, electronics, and construction waste end up in landfills across the world every year. Firms and scientists in forward-thinking countries are now formulating circular economy business models, so that waste from one industrial activity is a resource for another. Reusing and recycling will also reduce the drain on nature to produce new materials.
In Part 2 of this documentary series - a century-old tradition of clothes recycling in Italy; a hospital ward in Taipei built from recycled trash; precious materials for high-value manufacturing harvested from Black Soldier flies that feed on food waste; batteries recycled with the aid of discarded orange peel; energy-neutral buildings and circular industrial estates designed to reduce waste and maximise the efficiency of cities.
How can firms, communities and cities unlock lucrative opportunities in closing the resource loop? How can a circular economy move the needle on climate change?
Part 1 of Climate For Change: Closing The Loop: • Rethinking The World's...
========
About the show: Waste is generated on an epic scale. Unless we go ‘circular,’ it's game over for the planet. How can waste from one industry become another’s resource? And how do we unlock the economic benefits?

    Excellent series. Ironically the hope for our future lies in the very greed from capitalism that got us here in the first place. If the circular economy is actually profitable, you can bet more and more companies and enterprises will start looking into this for alternative revenue streams.

    In the last years I got the feeling that people feel more satisfied and more important the more plastic they consumed. Number one is Japan: The amount of plastic used there is just insane, no matter how many recycling facilities they have. Number two would be all South East Asian countries: I got the impression that people feel more important when they got a huge amount of plastic bags in their shopping cart after the cashier.

I can afford to spend the equivalent of $150 on clothes every month but I use that money do other things like planting trees and sustainable living. If only we could work close to where we live, it would do tremendous good. If Covid-19 has taught us anything, it is that much work can be done from our own homes in this digital age. When we need office space just twice a week instead of five times, it can be used by other workers and the commuting costs will be vastly reduced. And although we had too many zoom conferences for a while, it still is a valuable way of reducing traveling costs and our carbon footprint and must be maintained where useful. Why are school buildings empty half of the day? There must be a more efficient way of using those. Couldn't restaurants, that open at 17:30 be a wonderful office place up till 17:00?

    If this is the future then we should absolutely proceed to teach each country, state, province, township and city. Let each decide to start in small startups. Then coordinate with each other and build up a better place than we left it. I think the problem here lies with a sorta "how-to" do this is locking everyone. If this was teachable and replicated to ease the worry. I personally think this idea would catch on better. I absolutely feel I don't have as much 'skin-in-the-game' as I should. But if I can get taught how to organize and gather momentum with others in my area I would definitely give it a go!

    I was thinking about these issues all day today and what I came up with were two things manufacturers are driven to push products and success is more and more consumption many of which are products that get thrown out, and the circular economy does not address the large waste of resources and energy in the current manufacturing processes there will have to be a massive improvement in manufacturing efficiency and a shift away from getting consumers to buy more.

    It's all about human minds eversince my childhood I've been wondering about the advance human thinking which for a long time what they think come true just like for example there comes a time that a steel will fly in the sky and float in water. Now the circular economy is the perfect sound and fit solutions to be done to curb out pollution. I am thinking now about the strand of knowledge regarding the anticipation of the future finding and discoveries just like the mind of Einstein that he analysis the nature of the black hole which is a circulating protruded gravitational force which advances time and location. That is what composses the mind of the thinkers which thinks many things in advance which can be doable and useful to humans

From today starts, set a production target will do, no need overproduced, every logistic is based on demand, do not have excess. Furthermore, no need company to hire and pay high salary to ceo and sales to increases sales volume. Demand meet, stop producing.. There is no longer measurement of high productivity and high sales benchmark. Else all is empty talk about stop wastage. Human nature is greedy for money, food and luxury on this earth. They want YOU to eat the bugs. They want YOU to live in a hostel with 40 other families. They want YOU to give up your property(s). They want YOU to walk or bike. They will do none of these things. They want to laugh at you living in squalor while reassuring you that you’ll be happy if you own nothing. People who perpetuate this ideal are terrorists of the modern age. And they’re all wealthy elites.

    I personally don't like the extreme pleated look of the clothing. I like the idea but just don't see me wearing it.
