I always return to Cyril Falls The Great War 1914 -1918 Steve..Im sure you are familiar with same.I love all your Starter Kits..Gotta get to Paul Fussell .Christopher Clark is just great..Thanks for these lists..

So glad to see another starter kit!! These are great!! I never liked history when I was in high school (which was a very long time ago) It seemed like all the teachers were interested in dates and not enough in facts. Of course back then, we didn't have as much written information as we do now. The older i get, and the more I learn, the more I want to know. My husband could never get enough information about WWII, but I think that was because his father and mine took part in that war. I appreciate you listing the books that you talk about so that I can keep checking back. I;m very interested in the book on Kaiser Wilhelm II. If you did a starter kit a month that would be fantastic. Thanks so much.

Has there been a 'Space Race' starter kit? What with it being 50 years since Apollo 11 it might be timely.

The minute you posted the WWII starter kit, I was wondering if you'd do WWI. Triumphal Reads is a youtuber who also is interested in a lot of history/non-fiction. (Though, brace yourself, also philosophy.) He's often said that he really doesn't care as much about WWII, but is fascinated by the first. I'd be very curious to see his take on your list! I love that you have a section dedicated to the literary works that were born from the aftermath, and I have to admit. Histories of war always intimidate me. Personally, it's easier for me to learn about those parts of histories by reading biographies of individuals involved. It gives me the broader view I need to connect the flow of which battle to which. So thank you for those as well. As a tangent/side note, the note that WWII was so shocking because no one could believe something would be worse than WWI... if it hasn't been done as it would need someone as well informed as yourself to write it properly... a time-travel book about a 'career soldier' who is literally that. They keep getting resurrected in the middle of major battles throughout time. When that comment of disbelief starts floating around in WWII, all he can do is roll his eyes and mumble about different players, sharper pieces, same game. Again. And again. And again. Not to discredit the feeling of those in that time, or the incredible shift, but the only reason I try to remain semi-sane in our own world is to remind myself that every generation has had it's apocalyptic scare. We're a ticking bomb.

Any thoughts on E.E. Cummings WW1 memoir The Enormous Room. I think it's fantastic.

Oh you might want to speed them up! I saw The Sleepwalkers in a second hand shop and didn’t get because I wasn’t sure it was good enough to start. What’s the next big event? Soviet era and and the Cold War? The Russian Revolution?

Have you considered a Great Depression starter kit including books on the effects on the rest of the world?

I think WWI is much more interesting historically than WWII because the world before WWI was much more thoroughly dropped in the dustbin of history than happened with WWII.

I know this is yet another war topic, but what about a "Vietnam" starter kit?

Shouldn’t War War 1 be War 1, and War War 2 be War War 1?
