A Wolfenstein in Sheep's Clothing - A Character Analysis
Ойындар
Machine Games have successfully reinvigorated the Wolfenstein brand, thanks to throwback gameplay and strong storytelling, but the character of BJ Blazkowicz is far more complex than you think. In this video, I hope to show you why BJ Blazkowicz is one of the best written characters in gaming today.

I absolutely agree with you, BJ has severe clinical depression, but is just very high functioning. He basically has PTSD without the P, he's living with a Traumatic Stress Disorder every day.

You can hear it when he talks to himself. It's almost like he wishes to die but doesn't want to do it himself. In the new colossus he cries to his mom he tells her he doesn't want to do this anymore he is tired and just wants to settle down but he can't until they are free.
Crazy to think this guys grandkid kills demons and is possibly hundreds of years old. (*great grandkid)

Bj solemnly speaking to himself in the rebooted series really goes to show how the mental/spiritual damage he has incurred is to a major extent the reason why hes so unstoppable, hes nearly insane but in a strangely grounded manner.
A lot of the time I feel bad for him. He constantly says he wishes he wouldn't wake up he just wants to feel the peace of death. He is tired and doesn't want to continue fighting but he knows he can't stop until they are free. He begins to fight for the people he loves and the hope that his friends and family can live in a world where they are free and he becomes selfless. He acts tough but he can be very soft especially when his family is around. B J is probably one of my most favorite characters because of his devotion to what matters to him the most.
The story of Captain Blazkowicz and his mother reminds of the song Simple man by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
These games are the story of how a man recovered from his issues by doing what he does best. Now that's a great plot.

I love this video. Not just because I agree with it, but because it is a well thought out look into what makes Wolfenstein so great. I remember how absurd it sounded when I recommended 'The New Colossus' for the plot, but I am glad that more people are discovering the deeply complex character of BJ and the brilliant story and interesting world that surrounds him. I bought the first game a few months after it came out during the drought of new games for the Xbox One. The only hearsay I had to go by was comments online saying the game was very good. I couldn't be more satisfied with the game and it's successor and recommend it to anyone looking from a break from the norm. Even in 2018 'The New Order' still feels fresh and it is complimented very nicely by it's sequel.
Almost started crying when you went into detail about the Courthouse ending cutscene. Seriously this is an amazing video 👍
Not sure it why it's been so trendy to hate on Colossus lately. It was nice. I felt the set-pieces were not as well done as the previous installment but I liked the character much more in this one, Horton in particular as there's some oft forgotten historical context for the slice of Americana that Horton's meant to represent - at the very least I am 80% certain this is the case.

There's a lot of problems with the gameplay, subtle ones mind you but they're there and they add up. The game has this weird habit of not using the systems the same way on occasion for example, use of lighting for example, normally you use light to guide the player when you have a linear game with "off the path" secrets so you don't have to use a marker on the HUD. If you choose to get the "constriction" ability, the game normally has coloured pipes you can get inside, yet at one point it just doesn't use one of these pipes to indicate where you're supposed to go. Stealth is also much harder in general yet you still have the nazi officers who constantly summon reinforcements until killed.
I think this might be your most powerful video yet. By the end of your video it left me feeling both vulnerable and hopeful. Fantastic work!

Good video but you skipped over the impact of his childhood in his 2nd game and how it’s made him the person he is today, his dad calling him weak so thats what motivated him to become the strongest he could cause he didn’t wanna be wake and vulnerable like his father seen him as.
Wonderful work as usual, Hud. Looking forward to the next.
Hi, I just wanna thank you for your video. It helps me a lot when I'm writing script for video essay on Wolfenstein:TNO ^^
