or science incorporates a lot of magick..... magick is science we have yet to discover. Takes a bit of the fantastical away, but in the end it is not that far from the truth. When somebody tells you that st. Johns worth can be used as a mild antidepressant, is it because st. Johns worth is magick? no, it is the hyperforin in the plant that does that...... When somebody tells you to bind some rosemary on a walking staff for protection....well I think that is merely a belief, because it is said so. Or maybe not discovered why...who knows? It works both ways, into science and into intentional belief.

That was a real turn-off when I watched. However, after sitting with it for a while, I realized that what I'd initially interpreted as "scorn" was much more likely EXTREME discomfort. I definitely smirk and giggle when I'm feeling awkward and vulnerable, and that is more a reflection of my own self-consciousness than it is a statement on how I feel about someone else. Jaclyn Glenn definitely went into this experience with a *closed mind* because she was more than ready to dismiss anything that didn't jive with her and, even more disappointing, when she didn't really understand something, and didn't ask any further questions to even attempt to understand. She seemed more than content to disagree with the surface explanation and reaffirm her own beliefs. The fact that she even calls herself a skeptic is misleading. A real skeptic may not fully agree or even be wary of another's opinion BUT.... they ask *PROBING QUESTIONS* and have IN DEPTH CONVERSATIONS to really try to understand the other side. They even challenge their own beliefs for the sake of getting at the truth. ....Jaclyn isn't a sceptic. She's just straight up an ignorant person who's not trying to educate, but solely trying to get clicks. ....And that's a shame too because she was getting a lot of really good information from that guy, but she ruined it.

The thing that upsets me about this is I think she’s gotten so caught up in her hate/dislike towards Christianity, and trying to disprove it all together that she is so quick to mock witches even though most of the time witchcraft does not harm anyone, like the beliefs she complains about. Like someone else said here, If it’s not harming anyone she shouldn’t be mocking it in my opinion. I don’t believe in some things but I don’t go around mocking them because of my personal beliefs.

I feel like there's a line between being personally skeptical and being judgemental of other beliefs. If you are skeptical but respectful of the fact that others do believe differently there is no issue there, being skeptical isn't an issue. It's an issue when you openly mock people for the things that they hold close. I do think that some of the context did get lost when they edited out her (disgusting) ex. So I do agree that there is a redeeming factor. It just sucks that the parts that could be left in were the mildly disrespectful ones. (PS, I'm a lavender hater. I'm not afraid to say it. The scent gives me migraines and the seeds themselves make me sneeze. There is nothing calming or peaceful about that. I do have some in my collection, because it came in a box with other stuff, but it is very much sealed. I would honestly be tempted to use the nasty stuff in cursing, because personally I can only see negatives in it.)

i know right? the same thing happened when steve harvey on his segment of "is this weird":/ it is so transparently scripted that one of the most famous bronies in the brony community tripped them up and this phony psychologist said that it might become obsessive if he is racing cars that represent characters from "my little pony", they even cut his hair and put him in this nerdy geeky vest that doesn't represent his style at all. in real life, dude talks like a surfer and wears black t-shirts and jeans, helps organize many conventions and charities donations, as well as host his youtube channel where he and others react to things, and the "psychologist" wouldn't stop stuttering when ac questioned why he thinks the way he does. the biggest point ac was trying to make was that being a brony for him means breaking a lot of gender stereotypes and how freeing it can be to enjoy something "girly" without fear of his masculinity being diminished, which i love:) so many men in multiple cultures are taught to be super tough by not expressing emotions, and it causes so much damage just like the damage of the madonna/whore complex does to women:/ generally most popular media does a huge disservice when they don't go in with an open mind when looking at something different from "the norm":/

It’s like this whole video is trying to portray witchcraft as a practice as something silly. It would’ve been better if the host was someone that had a more professional standpoint. One that isn’t so visibly judgmental and where they’re not constantly shutting down the information from the people they’re interviewing are sharing. It’s just very insensitive.

What pisses me off about Jaclyn and most "skeptics" is that rather than having a true healthy level of skepticism about the occult (which I have even as a self-identified witch, because we should always question things and use deductive reasoning), they instead have an air about them that suggests they aren't willing to be convinced, they aren't really trying to learn or listen, and they look down their nose at all of this. You can't actually learn about or form respect for a way of life if you enter the conversation about it thinking that you already know everything and nothing they say can be of more value than what you already think of them based off of stereotypes or something you heard somewhere. Jaclyn obviously thinks far more about her opinions of witchcraft and what she thought she knew before this video than anything anyone is telling her, and the video is edited to reflect that. This is very fake "woke", in the whole sense that she is pretending she cares about witchcraft and people who think differently than her when it is painfully obvious that she doesn't respect it at all, much like the people in the Buzzfeed video and most other videos where non witches try to explain witchcraft.

I agree with you too!! I believe anything put out with a certain intention can be magick, even going go sleep at night and saying "I'll sleep good" or waking up and saying an affirmation. But I think what Hearth was trying to say is that he didn't nesscesarily mean it's magick to paint a wall, he was comparing the intention used in magick to that intention you have when you paint a wall a colour that makes you feel a certain way since there is that intent behind it.

She’s just so judgemental. I usually enjoy her content but there’s a difference between being a sceptic and mocking people’s beliefs. There is no point in being an angry atheist. I was angry for so long but I decided to open up myself when I found out witchcraft was a thing, and I realised that it’s something that I could believe in. I can never agree with most of the mainstream religions, but I can respect people’s beliefs as long as it is not harmful to anyone else. Who am I to bash what makes someone happy? When I say something about witchcraft to people sometimes they tell me to convince them, and I refuse, because that’s not what I was trying to do. I was sharing something about myself. I’m not here to convert people, I just want to be me. I can try to explain the general belief, but I am not doing it to convince anyone. It makes me feel like locking it all away. When people go into it with a closed mind, obviously they can’t grasp any of it properly. So there is no point in explaining anything when they’re already mocking you and saying ‘I’m a sceptic, sooo’. I am also a sceptic, I don’t believe whatever some random person says. I formed my beliefs based on my own experiences, and I can’t share that with someone who will say I’m being delusional because it doesn’t make sense to them. Magick and witchcraft are so wonderful, and it’s sad everyone pushes us into the ‘loony bin’ of religious people when so many of us aren’t even religious.

It’s like “well, my truth may be different from yours, but my path is different from yours”. Witchcraft people are so full of inner harmony and balance and so unwilling to judge anyone even if they do not agree with the views of that person. That’s free will anyway; anyone can go up or down, or choose their own path, because everyone comes here with a different purpose and for a different reason. Love your video and your opinion! I appreciate jaclyn for getting eugenia cooney into treatment (even if just for a while) & getting out of a really toxic relationship, but I always felt off about her views around religion in general especially as an ex christian so I’m glad people share that view of her too!! even though I’m now agnostic (I’m on & off-interested in witchcraft so I’ve never fully gone into practicing it) I still think religion has its place in the world as long as it isn’t harming others, & nobody should be discriminated against solely based off religion/religious beliefs

Phew I'm not the only Witch that watches Jaclyn Glenn. I've been anxious to watch her video. I mean, I would react to a penis candle like that too because you don't see penis and vagina candles being sold in regular stores. 7:36 *sees a Poseidon statue* Me: *Squeals* . I LOVE that it shows a male witch."Magick is an assistant not a fix" *chef's kiss*. I agree about him using the term "spirit" that's confusing, I think "energy"/"essence" would work better. I think the video should have been double the time it was or even longer. Can you please react to Strange Aeons reaction to Witchcraft Tumblr?

The video in question aside, I love your reaction videos cause you thoroughly discuss the things you're reacting to. So many reaction style videos (of any content, not just witchcraft content) is so surface-level and provides little actual commentary. Usually reaction videos are a cheap way to get views but considering your video is almost 4x the length of the original and the original isn't even in this video in full really speaks to how much feedback and insight you give in your reactions. Love these types of videos when they're done right and you are definitely doing it right!

It felt disrespectful, it left me the impression of one going in someone's home and insulting them. But then again, editing can be used to create an entire new situation. Maybe fact checking would do a favour in situations like these as well. But it really felt cringy for me to watch her chuckle, raise eyebrows and etc.

Hi Hearth. Thanks for everything. You were one of my first contacts with witchcraft. I used to condemn it but thankfully I lightened up, opened my mind, and decided to try practicing and it's thanks to content producers like yourself and Arith Harger that I've found a more spiritual path in life and I've actually been able to yield some amazing and very positive results in my practice and workings. The fact that you're still producing content reminds me, I need to get back on my magick horse and keep it going on the correct paths. It got me really far in a short amount of time and I really should be treating it as more of such than I currently am. Thanks!!!

Wow. I have always liked Jaclyn Glenn... but man this video was so hurtfully disrespectful. Ouch. Can we not be at least respectful even if we don't believe? Would she go into a christian church and laugh during the sermon? There is no difference. It will be hard to watch her now. Edit...spoke too soon.. I guess her wrap up made it a bit better..but I still think the earlier parts of the video were painful to watch.

I was 90% done with an annoyed comment when we got to the end of the video and you gave us a lot more information than the video itself -- and Jaclyn herself ended with a much more intelligent and respectful conclusion than much of the video seemed to indicate was going to happen. (I am SO glad I waited to click the "Comment" button!) The way the video has been edited, it definitely delivers a much higher percentage of snark than I felt was respectful... but the explanation puts it all into perspective. And yeah, I'll add my voice to those calling out Buzzfeed for plagiarism.

This video (the one being reacted to, not yours) really irritates me, because you wouldn't go into say, a place of worship, laugh at worshippers and tell them they have an imaginary friend, it's disrespectful to their spiritual beliefs. When the herbalist blesses the lavender, she not only directly mocks her with her "hello, wake up" shite, but also laughs, and like you say, leaves it in the final cut to inform her viewers that this is indeed something "laughable". I call myself a scientifically minded, pragmatic atheist, however, I am also a practicing witch, I do not worship any deities, but I am educating myself on the subject and seeing if I am open to exploring. I think of magick as science we have not yet been able to explain, and this is only supported by the fact that folk medicine has and still does inform modern medicine, many of our modern, chemical, regulated medicines come from proven success in using the plant medicines passed down by generations of wise ones. I wish she had just been a little more open minded, or at the very least, respectful.

You're very eloquent in this. Thank you for your thoughts on this video. I have watched a few of her videos previously and I did like her but it does feel uncomfortable to watch her laugh and belittle the practice/ the people. Even the music used in this video makes it seem like a joke or a comedy programme. It's troubling for sure. I really appreciate your opinion on it. It is helpful to have some solid ways to respond to these misconceptions that are clear and that don't confuse people or lead people astray. It's great you got to the bottom of the edit in the video though! It actually sounds like she's learnt a lot at the end Xx
