a WHISK(E)Y HATER tastes the Top Whiskeys For Beginners

Фильм және анимация

As you know, taste can be super-subjective. Sometimes that means a person doesn't like whiskey... (crazy, i know) In this episode, Rex and Daniel grab the Top Whiskeys for Beginner's, and introduce (some of) those bottles to a whiskey hater. Can he be converted with a friendly Irish whiskey? Will a dusty bourbon save the day? Will a smoky scotch set his feet upon the righteous path towards whisky glory?

Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them.

I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them. ,

Right with you Steven! I am excited to try a smokey whisky now. I tried Michters American Whisky and loved it. I tried Michters small batch Bourbon and didn't enjoy it as much as the American Whisky. Looking forward to Connemara and maybe a smokey scotch to see if I would like that. But on my list are Buffalo Trace, Monkey Shoulder, Highland Park 12, and see where I go from there. It is a really cool world and seeing people experience all the different tastes helps see what might be cool to try next.

Same. Always been a fan of vodka cocktails and ciders. Decided to go budget on a big bottle of Canadian Mist and some sour mix just to change things up a little. Its not bad, but definitely wish I could find a good non peated whiskey for around 25 bucks for the big bottle. A 1.75L bottle of Crown(which I love) goes for 50 dollars in delaware so any suggestions on cheaper alternatives would be welcome.

Funny story. I took my friend to a bar a couple of weeks ago. He's a total newbie whisky drinker and most of the time when he decides to drink aged spirits he picks some kind of flavoured Jim Beam and drinks it with coke or sprite on the rocks. I don't exactly know his experience with Scotch, but I'm a little more into it than him, and can comfortably enjoy neat whiskeys (I've been through drinking with coke as well). Earlier this year , having enough of what I've had so far, knowing how much left is there to discover, I'd decided to try something more premium like Johnny Walker Black Label and even had my first single malt... no surprise... Glenfiddich 12. . Back to the night with my whisky newbie friend aside. Totally out of the blue I felt like I have to go even one step further and have some peated whisky. I had no idea about the names, so I asked the bartender for help and she poured me... an ARDBEG 10! It was fricking AWESOME. My friend was sitting at the table, drinking Jack Daniel's Honey NEAT (surprise!) when all of a sudden he went "let me taste some of what you got there". I moved my glass of Ardbeg towards him to let him smell and have a sip. I saw the smell pushed him away from the glass but not as sharply as with the blends, he went for a one gentle sip. I could clearly see his mind getting blown away by the taste. When he could finally say anything he was brief - "that's the best thing I've ever had". Left me speechless :D From cheap blends with coke on the rocks to neat smokey whisky in one night. That's a progress!

The first thing I loved was Lagavulin 16. BOOM. I was immediately an Islay man. Still didn't like bourbon. The second thing I loved was Redbreast 15. Delicious! Still didn't like bourbon. Then suddenly... first American I loved... pot-strength, un-aged, un-filtered bourbon from Muckleyeye in Colt's Neck NJ. Most recently my friend gave me what is now tied for 1st with Lagavulin... Ardbeg Uigaedail.

It's ok guys...when my daughter's best friend wanted to hang out at our house a few months ago I said I have to meet her parents first. So her mom came over here and met me and we hung out for a while. She had previously met my daughter's mom (we have been divorced for 10 years). The next day, my daughter tells me, "Emma's mom really likes you. She said you have a really cool house and she never met a real hipster before." That was the first time I was confronted with the reality of my hipsterness. Embrace it as though it were frigid day and your hipsterness were a hot Double Organic Almond Milk Latte.

I can identify with the recognition part of the whiskey. I have always loved honey and when I drink different honey whiskeys I can't tell you so much about the non honey notes (other than broad general strokes) but the honey comes out strong for me and I can tell the differences in the honeys used. I didn't get the flavors that people pull out of whiskey until I started tasting the honey ones, especially back to back. Being able to pull out the subtle honey differences makes me get how people pull out the other flavors in whiskey if I had built up my pallet for them. Same as in the video pulling out the smoke because of BBQ where a person is familiar with smoke differences. I know most honey whiskey is not real whisky because the proof is too low, but I love them. Personal favorite is Wild Turkey Honey. I like to drink it neat.

100% on the "nostalgia" aspect. That's why I like peated Islay's. Reminds me of campfires on the beach. But I do enjoy a good speyside sometimes because the sweetness reminds me of burnt E85. If you're into whiskey and you have never run E85 through an engine, try it. Go out and buy a flex fuel vehicle or straight up convert your engine to E85. Pump gas will make you wretch after experiencing the joys and wonders of ethanol.

I experience the same thing he does... "Burn!" Some whiskey just really grind my gears! But for me, after a couple of slugs, the burn calms and I get numb to the other things about whiskey that isn't my 'cup of tea.' Evan Williams Black Label has been my whiskey choice for many years... I guess the taste of Evan Williams, brings back the memories of youthful weekends, when there was no weight of the world on my shoulders. Well, you only had to be 18 to buy liquor, when I was 18... In West VA. But lucky for us, West VA saw only a few miles from my hometown! Maybe all I need to do, is just be more willing to spend the money for one of those other bottles that he said was more "even..."

Rex you're wearing sunglasses indoors... that's definitely hipster xD Now that I have your attention, I got a question :) I'm from a small(and considered poor) country in Europe, and I always had an argument with my friend wether big whiskey brands (J. Walker etc.) sell different whiskey here, then in other richer countries. So I always claimed no big brand would afford to do that, they have a name to keep, and cheep whiskey is just bad everywhere. However we decided to test that, and brought a bottle of JW Red Label from London. I bough one from the most famous liquor store here, and I had one more at home, from a big supermarket here. Guess what? The two bottles bought here both tasted awful, like strong spirt. But the one from London nothing like this. It had darker color and tasted more like whiskey than a pharmaceutical. So WDYT, do big brands import worse products in smaller/poorer countries, or I just had a bad luck ?
