I used to put beer traps out for slugs which worked very well, then one night the raccoons came through and ate the drowned slugs and drank the beer and got drunk and disorderly at 2 am which disturbed the whole neighborhood. Did you know that raccoons can scream like mountain lions?! They tore up the garden and then came back night after night looking for beer. So I switched to iron phosphate so when the raccoons now come though they just belly up to the bug bar under the bug light. There isn’t anything under the bug light they can tear up. I love your property, it’s beautiful. Hugs from Washington State.

Absolutely adored the long video and watched to the very end! It amazes me when my simple life in Connecticut tracks with yours occasionally. I'm the lady with the Also- Lincoln husband who owns a home dated from 1920 we're constantly repairing! We also have two rescue cats and they're also indoors only! Just last night our little female disappeared and we tore our home apart for two hours only to find her wedged behind the refrigerator. Apparently the installation of the air conditioner in the bedroom freaked her out enough to go to ground and hide. Like you, I was in tears - these animals put you through your paces for sure!🙄 Loved every part of this video - you are the vlog I wait for each week! Thanks for always making my day!❤

Amanda, slugs and snails will not crawl over anything with a sharp edge. If you place a barrier trim of oyster shells around the perimeter of each bed, you will eliminate your uninvited diner guests in your veg patch.

I laughed so hard when Lincoln went missing after Fluffy was found. It read like a murder mystery. Your sense of humour is wickedly great. Glad Fluffy is home. Loved seeing so much of your donkeys and the supermarket was interesting. Now that you ended with cheese and dessert, I must have some Brie and something sweet. Cheers.

I have spent many hours with you after 3 days of binge watching. So I can tell you from certain that we are friends and the fact that you have never laid eyes on me is a minor detail. You probably didn’t see a comment I made the other day on an old blog was that the only way I could justify spending so much time watching strangers’ lives was to pretend the chateau is mine and you are surrogates in a parallel universe working on my property. Luckily for all of us, I approve of your choices. You and I are also soulmates when it comes to rescue animals. My sister always said one of these days I’ll be on the evening news as the crazy cat lady.

It's always a good day when a new video drops for this channel! Happy to see Lincoln wearing a mask and gloves while taking down those beams. I can only imagine the accumulation of dust and other things from over the many years that they have been there. Those beams are impressive. I hope you find a good use for them. Donkey sighting! Those Ing/Yang beans look awesome. What a difference the paint makes on the border of the gardens. It really is impressive the amount of work that you both do. Kudos. The Fluffy/Lincoln adventure! I love the range of products you can find at your organic store! I started eating only organics 5 years ago in an attempt to feel well. Not only did I start feeling healthy, but my autoimmune disease (SLE Lupus, 30 years) has totally gone. No symptoms at all... it took about 6 months. I weaned myself off my meds, to my Dr's disapproval, and I was totally fine. Maybe your daughter could slowly come off her meds, if she is totally on organics? Maybe she doesn't need to take them for life. I believe the chemicals and toxins that they spray on our foods, and the additives for preservation, contribute to our collective ill health. Love your videos.

I heartily enjoyed every second of your video! Especially when you went shopping in stores and I could see all the products available. Life in France is so incredibly interesting. I'm so glad fluffy got her excursion before the heat of summer, and that you found her in her old haunting grounds. Even animals miss familiar spaces. I love your gardens, the Donkey's field and the alle and so happy to see Lincoln working slow and steady on the cottage restoration. That is incredibly hard work for just one guy. Keep up the phenomenal work of just taking one day at a time and enjoying your time outdoors before those temperatures rise. I'm looking forward to your next posting and to see if your yinyang beans sprout. For four euros, all three had better come up.

The drone shots make the trees look like broccoli! Maybe they're magic beans? (Yin/yang beans) Asparagus takes 3 years so I hope you started them already. Artichokes are perennials fyi. I think the tree Lincoln was taking a photo of is some kind of nut tree...walnut, pecan, etc? The 2nd tree is an oak, the one with the scar in the side. FYI every plant flowers. It's how they reproduce. Some flowering is insignificant. Beech trees get really big. You might want to clear stuff away from them to give them some room? I would love to have a copper beach. Ash trees make the best firewood.... per Lady Celia Congreve (not sure who she is/was) "Beechwood fires are bright and clear If the logs are kept a year, Chestnut's only good they say, If for logs 'tis laid away. Make a fire of Elder tree, Death within your house will be; But ash new or ash old, Is fit for a queen with crown of gold Birch and fir logs burn too fast Blaze up bright and do not last, it is by the Irish said Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread. Elm wood burns like churchyard mould, E'en the very flames are cold But ash green or ash brown Is fit for a queen with golden crown Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke, Apple wood will scent your room Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom Oaken logs, if dry and old keep away the winter's cold But ash wet or ash dry a king shall warm his slippers by." Ash trees her in southern Indiana are in decline becomes of some disease so there is a lot of ash we're burning and it makes a wonderful fire. Dont' get overwhelmed Amanda. I had a 100 year old farm (after my divorce) and I did it alone (with paid help). Geez, that I would've had a ready and willing partner to do it with would have been heaven. Revel in your Eden. I loved the work but at 65, living vicariously. Cats know what side their bread is buttered on and they're never far away. Maybe leave a litter box out for Lincoln? Well done. Love the longer video. Thanks!

@@OurFrenchChateau no. At least not in Tennessee. We planted small bush encircled with daffodils and it flourished. I think they'd be pretty close to wall of walled garden. I say that spot because you seem to have crazy weather there. You know what you could do ? put them in big plastic pots around grill area then move them inside where they still get tons of light for winter til they get BIG then put them in ground. They smell sooo good. Beautiful bouquets anywhere in your home. Unique. Lotta greenery combo.

No drought or high winds ( your wind there is harsh ) my idea of huge pots sounds best since we don't live in Charleston south of broad bi atches. Seems like lot trouble huh? I think they're worth it.

Your drone shots were beautiful. I enjoyed the longer video, and although I don’t usually comment, thought I would let you know. I think your garden looks great, I used to raise a large garden when I was younger and my girls were home, it’s a hard job and I must confess my neighbors gave me some strawberry plants for a strawberry patch. That lasted one season as I was teaching school, working on our farm and with the crazy schedule I decided to buy my berries from people who had large patches of berries raised to sell. I don’t regret that decision lol. Wishing you a blessed week, and your grounds are beautiful, always enjoy the animals too.

For inflammatory belly disease or endometriosis (which is horrible to live), and which for me appeared due to chemical spreadings on fields, there is a very old plant called Yarrow or Achillée Millefeuille in French and you can find tincture in Pharmacy if you order it (at Boiron). It just saves my life. A few drops and the pain desappears immediately. You can take it 20 days per month when you feel you need it, not during your period because it stops the bleeding. This plant was well known by carpenters or soldiers in the past. This plant is well known and used from very ancient times. Except that nowadays doctors prefer curing with pills rather than very efficient herbs that grow everywhere in nature ! and which are much more efficient, especially for this kind of issue ! But nowadays who knows the power of plants ? 🌿

You realise that after this delightful area is restored, and a new kitchen is put in, all plans to renovate the old kitchen in the chateau will be put on the back burner..... You will be too enamoured by this wonderful new creation. I know I would! I'm sure you will be able to find the perfect excuse to delay. Am I complaining? Not at all, because I love this space. Keep building up those muscles Lincoln, and Amanda you are the health and safety lookout person on the project, so No you cannot get up there and lift those beams. Mind you I'm sure you could.... easily! See you next week....

Great vegetable garden! Everything looks very lush. So much space. A ton of work to maintain the land. Don’t be so hard on yourselves. Remember that an army of servants worked those farm-chateaus, not two people! I also get that you want it done. I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage, ‘ a way to eat an elephant, is a bite at a time’ :) Love your videos, great sense of humour!

wow I never seen such a wonderful array of fresh and non-fresh food and so wonderfully packaged as well. I had to laugh when you said Lincoln went missing after the cat returned. I am surprised more of you don't go missing on 40 hectares! Thats a lot of space lol I am glad you found your missing cat. I bet she was glad to be back inside and probably wont scamper outside again.

glad your beer-traps are working against the slugs! I always had the 8mpression that the beer-traps are kind of attracted all the slugs from all the surrounding gardens...

For a beautiful vinegarette, snip the flower heads off of your chives, soak in salt water/ rinse (to get bugs and eggs off) then add the flowers to the vinegar (white wine vinegar is nice). It turns a pretty pink color and makes a nice salad dressing, and we use it to make coleslaw as well.

I doubt Fluffy will be in a hurry to go out again soon. They can sneak by us so easily. We only have 1 cat and 1 dog. Our cat won't leave even if the door was left open. He knows how good he got it here. The garden is looking great. I always had to deal with slugs. They love hoetas. I found egg shells broken up helpful. They didn't bother with the beer. The organic store was interesting. IBS is horrible to live with when it is poorly controlled or too much stress. Christmas and Thanksgiving can be tough on resisting goodies, but I am sure you accommodate everyone. Keep the great videos coming. I really enjoy them.

Hello Amanda and Lincoln, If you use an iPhone, you can take a picture of the plant or tree you would like to identify and go to your photo library and tap on the picture. You can then slide up on the photo which will give you a "Look up - plant" option. This option will give you detailed information about the plant / tree. I live in Florida and have an extensive plant collection and I find that this feature is about 95% accurate. Hope this helps! 😃 Love your channel!!

I think the longer video is much better, our youngest son has Crohns disease, and the middle son has Colitis, both ibds.
