You looked great, I loved your interview outfit. I’m sure by now you have heard back from your interview and maybe had others, but some Advice from a nurse manager. Don’t overthink your answers as far a whether their lifesaving or these great nursing experiences or not. You have so many great life experiences to draw from and as a new grad we don’t expect for you to have a ton of clinical experience to draw from. We almost always ask “a tell me about a time you went above and beyond.” We want to see how you draw from your life experiences thus far and apply them to your nursing career. Also, you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Ask them questions about their floor/unit culture (this is important), why the last several people have left, how long has their most veteran staff worked there, how they motivate their staff, how they support their staff, what does a busy/chaotic day on their unit/floor look like. I get being over critical of yourself and overthinking what you said and panel interviews are hard but so common. If you leave the interview and you don’t have a good feeling or impression of the floor/unit & their staff then it is not for you. Good luck. I’m sure you will be amazing wherever you land in the crazy nursing career.

Never forget, when you interview for a job, you need to interview them as well. Also, ask the fellow employees about the environment, turnover rate and/or why people leave when they do.

This is the most important thing I was told too. Especially when you are starting your career, you need to find a place where you want to be and that would be lucky to have you.

I've been a hiring manager for about 5 years now, so not a ton of experience, but my advice to anyone is treat the interview as a mutual conversation! You are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you. You deserve the same respect and courtesy as you are giving, this is how you end up on a team that you really love! Good luck to you, the more interviews you do the better and easier it will be!!! Plus, remember that you did the work and deserve to be here!

I prefer darker colors for interviews. I've noticed that I tend to get the job over lighter colors. Things I've learned is if the interviewer is late, you won't get the job. Never email a thank you letter. It makes it look like you're kissing their butt. Never accept a business card. Never ask them why they like working there. Let's say your interview last longer than schedule that's a good sign. If they say, a recruiter or HR will contact you that's a good sign. Only follow up once a week where they are on the hiring process. 3 Questions to ask them. 1. What do you expect me to accomplish my first 90 days? 2. How do you see a person successful in this role? 3. Can you give me an example what a week would be like working here in this role?

  • @geraldinex3_

I agree with mostly everything you said except the thank you letter. I personally know of hiring managers that will not hire someone if the candidate doesn’t send a thank you email. Even if the candidate is perfect for the role, I’ve seen managers not hire someone over it. I think thank you emails are definitely needed to show your continued interest.

@@geraldinex3_ That's interesting. When I sent thank you letters, I've never gotten the job. I've even read samples on how to write them and I still didn't work for me.

@@geraldinex3_ this!! I know HR companies don’t necessarily REQUIRE thank you letters, that is, it’s not much of a red flag. What they do appreciate is sending a follow-up email, may it be the candidate’s next steps, something they failed to mention during the interview, some other stuff that candidates think would be important, because that shows that they are serious about getting the job. It honestly depends, but it can never hurt to send a thank you letter. It doesn’t mean they’re kissing butts lmao

I agree, you'll feel it, it will be like a love connection. These first interviews are just to settle into the groove. I'm optimistic, there is such a demand for nurses, Kiara can probably focus on exactly what she wants and I think OR is a great place ... Kiara, apply to orthopaedic surgical practices where they do knee & hip replacements... I had my knee done and the entire team was dynamite and yes, you have the perfect personality for that environment.

I’m also in a lot of interviews for job with different law firms and I just got rejected for one. But I’m positive that a better one will come. I don’t know about interviews in nursing but in Law Firms (I’m a lawyer) is to say exactly what you’re good on, what you can bring to the firm and what you want to learn. Be very specific.

It’s good to ask about the culture of the company. That’s a good way to see how the company is ran. If the person interviewing is very wishy washy about that answer you know the hospital is trash. Also remember we have a shortage in nurses they need you. So go in confident. Head up shake hands smile and always look them in the eye. What I used to do is hand write thank you notes and give it to them after the interview. It’s more personal than an email. But 100% just be confident

  • @sarabeth7415

My best advice would be always make sure you have some questions ready to go when they ask at the end of the interview 'is there anything you would like to ask us?'. Something relevant to the role and then also something like 'what would you say the best thing is about working here?'. Then finish with the classic 'when can I expect to know the outcome of the interview?'. Always a good thing to do as it shows your interest in them and the role.

A month has passed so much may have changed ... The interview suit was perfect. It may sound old fashioned, but no white unless it's between Memorial and Labor day ... So very glad you opted for the glen plaid ... You may wish to consider getting a navy blue or grey suit in a contemporary style, just to have for a second interview. The first times you interview are very difficult, but I spent 10 years working as a temp and the more you interview the less stressful ... After for the interview panel, that is pretty normal ... Again, another situation to get practice ... Okay, now I'm going to finish watching the video ... All the best Kiara!!!

Interview advice: Always ask questions at the end! I disagree with the person who said never ask why they picked the company. I always ask that question. Well, I did get the job I interviewed for so, it’s safe to say I got it with asking that question as well. I asked my (now) director: Why did you choose this hospital? What does growth look like in the position I was in? What is the quality that your best nurse has that makes her stand out? (Then proceed to tell them you have that quality in a story, make it up if need be!) What was the training schedule like? (Like how would they go about evaluating if I was ready to be on my own) Lastly (it’s a bold question), Was there anything from this interview that was keeping you from hiring me? (This is a bold question, but it is a good opportunity to redeem yourself if it’s necessary).
