A Walk Through the Upanishads

The Upanishads are the oldest and profoundest texts in the world. They have formed the foundation of all eastern spirituality. Many Hindus have heard of the Upanishads, but have rarely taken the time to understand them. This Video goes through the conclusions they make and how these have been interpreted by the great Masters.

*Svetasvatara Upanisad 4.6 & 4.7:* “There are two birds in one tree. One of them is eating the fruits of the tree, while the other is witnessing the actions. The witness is the Paramatma(supreme soul), and the fruit-eater is the Jivatman(individual soul). The individual self- the jiva, tastes the fruit of the tree in the form of the inner and outer senses, and according to the quality of that experience he is made happy, unhappy, contented, discontented and so forth. The Supreme Self (Paramatma), on the other hand, feeling taste of neither sweet nor bitter experiences, He just calmly observes.

Hinduism does not merely describe and analyze the goal (philosophy), but also provides the means to achieve that goal (methodology). When one becomes thoroughly convinced and attracted by the goal, one should approach an expert practitioner to acquire the necessary methods.

  • @lukefromdenver7609

@@aneeshktk4448 I've wondered that too. However, my wild guess no relationship. Abraham was a man and patriarch, not a god (Brahma is the creator god), which would have many equivalents in Hindu scriptures. Further, Hebrew is not part of the Indo-European language tree, as is Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, etc. Following the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar's destruction of the First Temple, a period called the 'Babylonian exile' began, where from then on more Jews could be found in the Diaspora than in the Levant. This is when Hebrew literature brings in Zoroastrian (ancient Persian religion) ideas, where before they were basically versions of Sumerian (non-semitic) and Akkadian (semitic) mythologies. The ancient language of Avestan was the original language of Zoroastianism and was probably developed around the same time as Sanskrit, or as a reaction to it, and has many words which mean the opposite from one another. One word is 'deva' which means 'deity' in Sanskrit, but 'demon' in Avestan.

What a wonderful talk! I was a student of philosophy of religion in college where Hinduism was included in our studies. I started my life as a Christian with full family and church support -- gravitating to the truth, justice an d love spoken of therein (I know, I know, there is a lot more within the scriptures). During college, I became familiar with the Baha'i Faith that describes the concept of progressive revelation -- much like what we go through as we grow up where we learn things when ready to do the work to understand. I have tried to make my connections between the Abrahamic Religions (Baha'i being considered as part of that relationship through the mother Keturah) and what went before -- Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, etc. I have not done a very good job with my ability to understand how various belief systems can share the thread going through all, but this has been a wonderful help to me! I will most surely watch it again, and again. If you might recommend a couple of books you think would be accessible, I would be most grateful!♥️🎶💫

Excellent video with clear and concise description of the Upanishads and it's foundation of Hinduism. The ideas expressed are so simple and yet so powerful. Fundamental elements of true wisdom is that we can know ourselves and thus come to know Brahman and become free. It is interesting to note that in ancient Greek philosophy, the oracle of Delphi's motto was "Know Thyself" and their teaching was "To know Thyself, you must understand Thyself." This is the same teaching in the Upanishads and in the Bhagavad Gita. Jai Guru Deva.

At a superficial level, individuals are different because they appear to have different attributes. I never heard such a good explanation by any seer so far. I heard to many swami's and it is full of words. This is ultimate and best so far. Also, please help us how to get to Brahman.

EXCELLENT SUMMARY ON THE UPANISHADS Just add, the Upanishads also has room for the ATHIEST & AGNOSTIC thought systems, and you don't necessarily have to believe in God (atleast not in the traditional sense) .....BUT it also ask the question if a God exists and accepts the BELIEF in God is also valid path to what is BRAHMAN
