4K Master from the UCLA Film & Television Archive's 35mm restoration. One of the most renowned World War II films relates the timeless saga of the American G.I. as no other movie has before or since. The dilemma of the common soldier trudging to an unknown fate under a blazing Italian sun is captured by the different thoughts and personalities of a disparate group of men under arduous stress.

My dad was a Korean war vet, and we'd watch this together every time it came on. He was a member of the 27th Infantry Regiment, called the "Wolfhounds," who fought at the Pusan Perimeter, and he said this reminded him of the relationships he and the men had. RIP Pop! Love you ... Miss you.
Believe this is 45 infantry division. My brother was a rifleman in this division during WW2. Survived the war, now deceased. Thank you brothet.
My father fought in Italy and he loved this film. As did two of my former bosses who also fought there.

Combat vets embraced this film at the time and since. That should be the review for this film in movie guides.
Viewing because of Norman Lloyd’s recommendation. Intelligent talking heads. My favorite story telling. Brilliant writing
This is one of the few war movies from this era that I've seen where the actors actually buckle the straps on their helmets.
A good movie, considering when it was made. So many days of combat, and everyone's clean-shaven.
War flims are very important for all over the flim industry of the world . This kind of movies indicate the dengourousness of wars for human civilization .
Good watch
Hey guys! It's an M3 half-track! It's friendly fire!

Loved the book and the movie. Language was cleaned up. I'm afraid younger people will not get this movie.
Is it me or since it says Christian drake at 2:31 and Thomas drake at 3:08 so are they father and son?
Interesting film
We've seen the us uniforms in so many movies. But as plain as the are they look very practical. The German uniforms were stylish, and the Russian sometime..but the US uniform SO FUNCTIONAL
I could have done without those recurring musical interludes.

The songs remind me of the old westerns.
Interesting film . First time I see , used to like the British films on Sunday afternoon TV,
Too bad the world is still Waring more than ever - when will they ever learn - where have all the flowers gone - a song written after WW1- the War to end all Wars - too bad the devil is working overtime.
There was lots of incredible dialogue, but I had to skip some parts.
It must be me. But I don't see how this film became renowned. Total waste of 2 hrs in my opinion. Can't see why they made it and why it was restored is completely beyond me. And judging by the number of comments no one else though much of it either. but at least someone did. Can't please everyone eh?

@@nedludd7622 LOL! Your post reminds me of what Satchmo said when a guy asked him to explain the Blues - "Man, if I got to explain it to you, you'll never know."
