SPOILERS FOR NO WAY HOME! Thanks for being here everyone. One thing's for sure: I've enjoyed the pure joy the Spider-Man fandom has been putting out for the past week. It's crazy to see so many people united about one thing. What's your favorite Spider-Man movie?

Kevin Feige is just waiting for you to be comfortable before attacking. He is always watching. 😂

I think they nailed the Spidey-sense in NWH. The way they used a dolly-zoom to push the background away from him, then the shot stayed with him for a while... it stands out as some of the only shots in the movie with purpose/intent behind them

Even though your criticism about the film's style/aestethic is fair, I do think Jon Watts has improved in that area since Homecoming and Far From Home. The fight scene between the Green Goblin and Tom Holland in Happy's apartment wasn't just CGI punching. The way it was shot really portrayed Peter's fear in the moment as well as how intimidating the Goblin was. Also, at the end of the final fight, I think the visual choices gave the scene a lot of gravitas. I liked how it took place on the Statue of Liberty's gold shield half-submerged in water with the sunrise in the background. Also, I think the film had a good amount of fan-servicey Endgame-esque shots - like with Tobey and Andrew giving each other a side hug or that moment at the beginning of the final battle where Tom pulls Andrew and Tobey forward mid-air while swinging. In the grand scheme of things, the visual style is still bland but relative to your average MCU movie I think No Way Home did well.

I see your point but I disagree, there were plenty of times this movie felt stylish and beautiful to me. The scenes in the Mirror Dimension, Peter standing in front of the giant screen with JJJ taunting him, the three Peters talking on the rooftop, the Goblin fight on the appartment complex (my personal favorite), it maybe wasn't the most cohesive but I wouldn't call it bland

I do agree with your opinion on the direction and it's been my main problem with the trilogy as a whole. There are some nice looking shots (the scene where Peter is watching JJJ on the big screen in the rain looks great!) but the majority are nothing to write home about. The main culprit for me is when we first see Norman. There's no build up or panning, there's just a shot of the goblin mask and then a cut to Willem Dafoe.

You're not wrong. Skuckmann said the same thing. The directing and editing g and framing g were strange.

totally agree with the lack of style comment, I feel like it might be an MCU thing more than a watts thing, but mainly because after edgar wright was kicked off ant-man I've been a little weary of their restrictions.. The movie had so many great moments it sucked to have to see the 3 suits at night in this random location, but the story beats they hit went down pretty flawlessly (save some plot details that feel dumb but are run of the mill at this point for marvel). Defoe and garfield really treated this as a passion project and it showed everytime they were on screen, and I hope this only means spiderman will get better from here on

Crazy to see the Internet going wild over Andrew Garfield suddenly (by the Internet I mean also myself but yk). Great video-- I see a lot of merit with what you're saying here; not sure what I think yet in terms of objective stylistic/directorial merit, so I'll need to rewatch a few times to critique it or decide how I feel. First watch through I honestly was just enjoying the sheer bliss/fun of it. It was one of the best MCU experiences I've had in a long time. The story was great and to me it felt like Endgame, but more of a movie than a fanfic/event-- it felt whole and complete as a film. Can't wait to rewatch it with more focus on the style/spectacle, though. I get what you're saying about the fan service kind of feeling sketch-ish, but I honestly appreciated the lighthearted approach to hero team-ups, it brought a lot of joy/laughter to my family. But I do see how it would have benefited from more gravitas and significance in a lot of those moments/action. Definitely agree with your takes on Tom Holland's Iron Boy progression, btw, you put my thoughts into words there. I hope his journey continues and he develops more outside of that trope, but also I mainly just hope for a TASM3 at this point--

I’m curious to see the movie now. It’s funny that I haven’t seen any of the MCU Spider mans, but I get your message-bold stroke comic book movies are awesome. My favorite Spidey movie is probably the first Raimi one. It was all about those characters of Peter, Mary Jane, and Harry finding their way, and Green Goblin is like this evil power ranger that keeps showing up. I love that final battle and there’s this part . . . I think Peter is dreaming (?) and he sees Goblin’s face. As he moves his face toward the camera there’s this weird effect on it, and it somehow makes the whole thing that much better. It’s just an added touch that does so much for the personality of the movie. We need more warpy movement effects in these films, that’s what you were getting at right?!

Great video Houston! Out of curiosity, how would you rank the 27 films and 5 series set in the MCU?
