'A tutorial on R programming for data analysis' (04/27 Tue)

Topic: 'A tutorial on R programming for data analysis'
Speaker: Kimia is a third-year PhD student in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NCSU and has received her Master of Operations Research from the same university. Her research mainly includes combining data analysis problems with simulation optimization algorithms. Her current work focuses on improving feature selection wrapper algorithms with unbiased and more stable estimators of models' performance measures. Kimia also was part of the team for the CMS AI challenge which involved many students and faculty members in the ISE department of NCSU and Oregon State University. During her PhD, she has presented her work in the Winter Simulation and Informs conferences, and has published two conference papers. Lastly, she will be joining the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for a data science and modeling summer internship position.
Description: In this tutorial, Kimia will explore and implements various regression and classification algorithms in the R programming language. She will present how to read from a dataset, pre-process the data, and build models accordingly. Kimia will also use the ggplot2 package and employ different visualization techniques to illustrate the results and present findings in an organized fashion. Participants with a basic understanding of statistical methods and programming will get the most out of the tutorial. Having access to R and Rstudio is a plus to get a real-time coding experience."
