The occasional promo won't hurt the channel, but $2,000 gets into the Kirby Allison level from a fellow that says never pay full price and talks about used shoes. If you are a business traveler then this may be of use to you; but if you only fly once a year or even less, it is not much of a bargain no matter the quality. Tagged with a "paid promo" from youTube. Always expect wear and tear on any luggage be that in the cabin or in the hold.
That's not a minor dent, old chap!
It’s best to spend as little as possible on such stuff, the dent says it all. Baggage handlers don’t appreciate quality. I wonder how long before they break any of the wheels off. 😢
Why have stuff which is a target? Under the radar old boy, that’s the way. Quiet luxury, without wearing a badge.

I’d be pretty upset if my $2000 case got a dent, but I guess that’s the inevitable downside of aluminum.

Expensive luggage and lousy luggage handlers don’t mix well.
Im cautious for information vs influence. You can get very similar cases (from German car makers) with better handles for 1/10th of the price. This is a miss for me
Ash, there is no way that I would ever check such an expensive piece of luggage. I suppose, for your purposes, it served as a good test, but I would never be comfortable letting others handle it, nor would I subject myself to the risk of theft, whether at the carousel or elsewhere.
I am a great fan of the channel, and I really appreciate much of the content that you share, completely free! However, I do feel this video came across as a little inauthentic. I feel that the case was rather poor value, and more fragile that one would appreciate for such a cost. And I do think these points were rather glossed over in the video, in preference of the "rock and roll" feeling of owning an expensive suitcase. I could stay in Barcelona for two weeks for this kind of money!
A very honest review Ash, but to have sustained such damage after one trip it wouldn’t look so prestigious after several trips. Also the price tag was high and I honestly can’t see how it can be justified.
I have been using it for two years and it's an awesome carry on. Good quality, reminds me of old craftsman tools.
Enjoyed the review Ash but I think a happy medium would be to buy Carl Friedrik, probably less chance of damage given that aluminium lends itself to dents and scratches over time.
I always enjoy your videos and this is no exception. However, as beautiful as that case is, any luggage that gets a big dent after one trip is not worth $2000… maybe not even $200. How many trips before you are no longer comfortable wheeling it through those fancy hotels? A chap invests in items that are both handsome AND durable, no? I wonder how much more it would cost if they made it out of titanium. 🤔

Depends on your approach. I think well worn, quality items look great. As Dieter Rams said, the first scratch is a tragedy, the second scratch is unfortunate, the third scratch is patina. I have used Rimowa aluminium luggage for years and the ones I check in look like they have been to hell and back but the cases are still fully functional. Rimowa also offers extensive and efficient repair services. With this one I would be worried about the lack of a worldwide support network. I have had Rimowa cases repaired on the spot at Rimowa stores all over the world (generally for broken wheels), and in some places they offer a hotel pick up and return service if you need an on the fly repair. What is the approach for this one? Does it need to be returned to the US for repair? If you travel often enough, it doesn’t matter what brand you get, you will eventually need a luggage repair. I use Tumi and Rimowa for this reason. They will do the most common repairs, often for free, at virtually any of their retail outlets worldwide.

But what if they give it to you for free? There is the kicker.
This was excellent
Heart "I would love one of these" Head " Behave yourself ! " maybe if I were going on the Orient express but otherwise not a practical purchase I'm afraid .
Looks like a truly beautiful piece of luggage. Sadly that price is out of my range, but I'm always happy to see what you take on your adventures.
A truly beautifully engineered suitcase. I would personally try and panel beat the dent out and get it back to as nice a condition as possible.
When I travel I like to put an AirTag in the travel case. I wonder if that works at all through the aluminium body.
Nice kit. However IMHO might draw a bit to much attention for my taste. I prefer Briggs and Riley made from ballistic nylon , understated and Q branch swears by it.
Those handles say it all about the quality of the brand. I may be wrong in thinking this but it seems that international cbain bag allowances seem to be getting smaller and smaller. Is ridged luggage still recommended if parameters change? And fair,it’s expensive but if you travel at least semi regularly a lifetime warranty will pay for itself.
The problem with heavy-duty cabin cases is that they are heavy, somtimes exceeding 4kg. This case weighs 5.4kg. Many airlines have a maximum weight allowance of 7kg for cabin bags. I think it's better to go for a cheaper lightweight case at just over 2kg so that you can put more things in before hitting the weight limit, even though the life of the case may be 5 years rather than 25 years, and it would be much cheaper to buy Qty 5 cheap cases. I would advise against checking in obviously expensive cases as this attracts thieves as well as risk of damage during handling. Agreed that 4 wheeled cases is the way to go.
Great looking cases but at that price tag it’s out of reach for most people.
@13:50 a peli case would offer protection for contents; aluminium cases are heavy and dent easily. I also suspect baggage handlers for their own amusement add dents by dropping flash looking cases.
Ah.. this will be a learning curve for this chap. Aluminium cases reveal the manhandling that our luggage is exposed to during travel like no other. I take multiple flights throughout the year, every year, and had bought an aluminium case to begin with. It was a mistake. It was embarrassing to travel with two years on because it looked like an old rock bands touring case😂 Hard plastic provides deflection and looks far better far longer. Briggs and Riley are the go-to today. Good job this chaps was free! Ps. I’m always behind the gold curtain at T5 when I fly and believe me, no one’s swooning over people’s luggage😅
Two thousand dollars for a case £85 for shoes on eBay no way
Was checking in the case in place of carrying on, the reason of the dent? The design and Aluminium may not suggest it to be checked in. It is like stiches coming out of your Saville Row suit after first wear.
I lived in Muscat, Oman when I was a kid for about a year, I liked it a lot, would like to go back to see how it's changed as it would be over 30 years ago bow that I was there
I'd be rather gutted if I'd spent 2k on a case that got damaged like that after the first round with the baggage handlers ... of course, they may have given it special attention ! It does look great, but I think it's for folks with more money than they know what to do with... someone mentioned Kirby Alison? lol

I had a run in online with Kirby Alison, he talks about his family and then openly promotes smoking. i pointed out that smoking could well kill him and his family might not be very happy about that. less to say Kirby and his chums got a bit upset. Love your family Kirby - Love them back - stop Smoking!

@@stevelee7963indeed. I kick myself for smoking for years, I still have to use nicotine pouches… the safe ish ones so I don’t strangle someone. I’d imagine cigars are a bit safer than smoking and inhaling 30 fags a day, but certainly not without risk. As interesting as Kirby is, I find him a bit like that bloke of The Big Bang Theory.
One trip and actually two dents…. As there is a small one on the front. I few trips and that’s going to look awful. Thanks for the review…. But I’m out 😅
Certainly gives the expression 'Bang for the Buck' an alternative interpretation...
For that money: Globetrotter carry on is cheaper and more stylish. If it’s a carry on, carry it on that way it won’t get damaged!
Oman is one of my favorite places. I lived there for a bit..... Beautiful place, very nice people.
Thanks Ash a good review, if I'd paid 2K for a case and got a dent in it like that I'd be mighty upset. Does the lifetime guarantee cover the dent? As always your honesty is refreshing. What watches did you travel with? I have just brought a luxury watch, not sure if i should take it on holiday.
Leather travel bags for me. Rugged and affordable. I use Saphir "Canadian" to make them supple. Totally bullet proof although quite heavy. I will use a cart at the airport anyway.
The carry-on costs over US$1,000. And the full-sized suitcase is over US$2,000. It better be high quality! But it is way out of my price range.
Do you think Ash that because the case was so nice the baggage handler ( idiot) deliberately dinged your case? I once had a really nice case on a trip to Amalfi, it was so badly scuffed and dented on my return, I never used it again! I think if it’s that good and fits in the overhead cabin locker, then don’t put it in the hold, especially costing that amount.

Possibly was the case, but I wanted to give the case a good, real-life test scenario.
As much I believe in people should spend their money their way if they have the budget for it but sometimes there are products that you find hard to justify like this. it is quality no doubt but the only way that I can see this worth if you travel A LOT for work or pleasure. Also as carry on to avoid losing it at check in,2k down the hole there.
You missed to inform the gross weight (empty) of the luggage.

Disappointing that a product costing that is able to damage. Ive used my polycarbonate Logel for 23 years across 4 continents and its still perfect.
Spinners are for Japanese teenage girl vacation, not for business traveler!
No football tops in that hotel Ash!
It will last forever but sadly bashed and dented 😂
Nope
Rimowa copycat?
Ash, you are a great bloke, but you ain’t no rock star. Loved the video mate. Going to Switzerland tomorrow myself. Really nice luggage though.🫡😉
