You know, Conrail did try to bid on the BNSF back in 1998, this was because both railroads shared a part of Corwith yard in Chicago

As a Conrail fan, I envy post conrail catches, and now that NS has only 2 left, It's nearly impossible! Conrail was an amazing company and railroad, overcoming incredible odds and saving the Northeast/Midwest rail markets! It is also a great example of a government program that actually worked! Sad to see them go, but at least we still have the heritage unit!

my dad was a nyc, pc,conrail conductor for 43 years on the old ft. wayne div!. streator,kankakee, to elkhart. Miss nyc, and big blue! Whistles sound great remind me of him. could ride wit hin the day. Streator turn, and east local. Priceless memories i will always have with me.

Nkcs change of pace from f2f he endless parade of wide cabs. I neved thouvht I would remember Spartan cabs so fondly... and SWITCHERS too!!! Lovedthose horns as well. Great video.
It’s kinda cool that CN bought off a lot of Conrails C40-8W’s instead of scrapping them. I’ve seen a lot of CN Ex Conrail units with their original horns and style just repainted. I’ve also seen some of the Blue Devils. The blue devils also have the same horns and paints. R.I.P Conrail 1976-1999.

@@s_rv. not true, CN has some Ex-Conrail Dash-8s, 2455-2466, only 12 of them 2 were scrapped as of today but the rest still run all the time, 2460 being the only one PTC equipped so it is allowed to lead unlike the other 9. All but 3, so that makes 6 are still in Conrail blue but they are patched by CN.

Wow, I can't believe you caught this much CR action in 2009. You would've never seen this many CR units if this was a CSX main line;) I can't wait until I go up to film at Richland soon. 5*, a favorite, and a channel post.

Anyone notice their famous blue and white color got more saturated after the purchase between NS, and CSX? I have. It seems like the locomotives that have a white patch have a little more saturated color

COOL! i've never seen a real conrail switcher before! i had a lionel set when i was a kid ,it had a 8111 dt&i switcher engine (,i still have the engine and green gondola and flatbed, thats all thats left,,, :(

I miss the old conrail quality blues diesels.
It is a shame. All the Conrails are probably going to be in Horsehead by 2012. All the Conrails are in YN2 or YN3 on CSX. Poor Big Blue, being the 2 Eastern Class 1s pet.

was this video shot on day 1? when NS and CSX assumed full control or before? and its weird seeing ditch lights on a switcher, and some of them engines look great in blue just a bit worse for wear.

No they couldn't, these were shot long before NS has ES44AC's.
they didnt have to use those two units they could have thrown a es44ac to lead
