The University of Richmond has digitized the redline maps and made them available online. This had such an effect on cities you can still see these areas even though it was outlawed in 1968.

Thanks. I was looking for copies of those maps.
I was born and raised in the Bronx, some 70-80 years ago. Yankee Stadium was West Bronx at that time. I played PAL baseball for the 41st PCT, and that was the South Bronx. Some of you may may remember an old Paul Newman movie, Fort Apache. That was the 41st PCT.

I was a teenager while that movie was being filmed. I remember seeing the filming of it. It was pretty cool.
There is only 3 reasons I go to the Bronx from New Haven CT. 1:Yankee Stadium 2: The Bronx Zoo 3: The 24/7 White Castle on the corner of E 224th and Boston Post Road (it's the closest white castle to New Haven)
I have a friend who laughed cause I always say “The” Mosholu Parkway. I played in Latin bands in the mid 1970’s through early 80’s and doing gigs in the South Bronx was a wild experience. Sometimes there would be a building with absolutely NOTHING around it for many blocks and then this one place that would be an impromptu club with great live bands, dancing, of course, and sometimes food. One place was a former car showroom so this big cavernous space. They would sell plates, made up of good: the most delicious roast pork, rice with gondule beans, plaintains. Really delicious. It was like these oasis’s of joy and fun in the middle of what looked (and felt) like a burned out war zone or something. An amazing club in Mott Haven I think it was called the Cerromar Casino, I think it was. Like a 18th century Opera House turned into a smokin Latin club with great bands. Like something out of a dream it felt like to me at the time.

Ooooh! That was an awesome time in music ❤ of course I missed out since I was born later but man the sounds of bands then can’t compare to NOTHING now! I knew u got some good stories about things you’ve seen where u guys played 😊

@@mariecolette9066 A venue like the Cerramar Casino, hope I have that name right, had three bands a night and everyone alternated sets so you were there for like 8 hours and the sun was out when you finally left. But big name bands like El Gran Combo, I remember hearing Angel Canales there for the first time. Loved him and that band. Wonderful memories, wonderful music. The dancing too, wow!
I’m happy you’re discussing the South Bronx, Tom! It’s been a while🙌🏾!
The whole South Bronx? Including Hunts Point, my neighborhood? There should be a part 2

I agree! Please have a part 2, that would cover more precisely the middle part of this video.
Thank you for talking about and featuring the Grand Concourse. My husband’s Puerto Rican family moved there in the 70’s and he was born and raised there as well. The influx of the PR population was as you said, “as they were looking for jobs.” All because the US falsely advertised at the island that there were jobs awaiting for them or so the government thought there would be. As they arrived and people left behind their homes in the island, many had to succumb to federal help. After about 15-20 years in NY, my husband’s family slowly started moving to Orlando, FL or back to Puerto Rico. There’s still a lot of family members/cousins that live in different parts of the Bronx and own homes there.

Wao I lived 25 years in the Bronx and being honest everything you just said on this video is new for me 🤷🏽♂️😂. Thank you so much 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for the history lesson on this great Burrough. I’m also happy to see the Universal Hip Hop Museum in almost in its entirety, as well as including 1620 Sedgwick Ave.
I really appreciate these videos. They’re exposing me to parts of NYC that I did not visit when I was growing up there. ❤
Born and raised in the South Bronx. I left in 1991 at 25. Since then I have only been back to New York once. Having said that, I realized that I had never been anywhere in the Bronx. I never knew that there was another subway line besides the 4, D, C, 2, and 5. I found out the 6 train goes to City Inland. By the way, my family stayed in that hotel in the 70s,, I was so young. I never knew Yankee Stadium was down the Block.
@kaykartz9167

To be accurate, the #6 only goes to Pelham Bay Park. From there, you have to take the #12 bus to City Island.
Hey Tom I did a lot of bronze casting on that Heintz memorial.
I am in NYC. In walking around, we saw places you’ve shown in your videos and said your name multiple time as well as said sick plug 😂😂 thanks for another great video
Thank you for telling the truth.
Tom is the best tour guide period. 👍👏😊♥️
I always feel a wee bit sad at the end of one of your tours, it's like the end of a good holiday. I nearly got knocked down when trying to cross the road to see the Yankee Stadium, twenty years ago on a Holiday. Daft Scotsman me looking the wrong way. I loved the Bronx the people were very helpful. I love New York, best City in the world !
Thanks Tom, you always keep us thoroughly engaged from Australia 🇦🇺
I was born in intervale avenue , in 1951 ,& raised there , till I left in 1973 ,moved to Astoria Queens. I enjoy your videos, I've learned a lot with you Keep it up , good luck 👍 ,God bless 🙏 you, too
Mayor Cermak is buried at an interesting Chicago cemetery, Bohemian National, which is also the site of many victims of the Eastland Disaster, sunken ship in the Chicago river where 100s died.
Hey Tom, always so refreshing to watch your videos, cheers!
Cool my place of birth Bronx NY! Thanks Tom!

I'd love to hear Tom's telling of Robert Moses and his effect on the development of New York. I'm reading the Power Broker right now and it's insane how one person could build so much - the UN, Lincoln Center, the BQE, Cross Bronx, Triborough Bridge, Verrazano Narrows, housing projects, Jones Beach, the list goes on. His negative impact on transit and walkable neighborhoods are super important too. Would be hard to summarize in 20 minutes but the filming locations are endless.

I still want to know how it took someone so long to call his bluff! They wanted to fire him, so he threatened to quit, so they didn’t fire him!!! What!? Parks Commissioner of NYC building roads & setting up beaches in LI!! Way too powerful

Tomd. Thank you man, I take my son and nephew for walks and try to describe the history of the location we visit like you do. They love it
Thanks for the history. Good video
Thanks for a very informative and respectful tour.. I was worried that you would omit the history of hip hop.. much appreciated.. I look forward to a North Bronx video!
Fantastic!!!
Always raise there as a kid 1976 - 1982
Loved it !!! Can you do clason point / soundview Bronx? I’m a resident of this neighborhood and I love your stuff…we help with your expensive soon 🫶🏽☮️🤟
As a Nicaraguan kid born in the South Bronx, shoutouts to North Central hospital. It’s great to see this, and I was in NYC last week for my 30rd. Wish I could have find you and Cam, would have taken yall to lunch or the Stadium Series hockey game. Saludos!
Maybe the Yankees were called the Highlanders Because the stadium is in High Bridge. You never mentioned that place. Steinbrenner used to give money to Sacred Heart to keep the whole thing going. But you are funny as hell and I enjoy your videos. By the way I'm a grandson Irish immigrants and was born there in High Bridge
Thank you Tom. 🏜🕺🏻🐕🏖
Thank you Tom!!!! You should do more history of the Bronx especially the Parkchester area
✨Awesome! My neighborhood✨ Great info and video as well 👍 thanks
La Lupe you did well with those few notes😊. Thanks I live in the Bronx
I'm glad you touched on the Grand Concourse, but I really want to learn more about it. My mother lived on it when she was young and even when I was a kid growing up in Jersey, our dentist was on Grand Concourse. I think some of the old apartment buildings were pretty nice. I hope they are fixing them up rather than tearing them down for more cookie cutter boxes.
Very informative and educational and you make me laugh
Very informative. As far as the ppl who live here, made the neighborhood what it is. We should care of those ppl FIRST. Thank you!
Wow! Good job 😮
Hi again Tom, how you going to do south Bronx before Brownsville, East NY areas in kings county aka Brooklyn,NYC areas !. Again please do each one of those areas next !
You forgot bronx park it's of the largest parks in our city and is the 3rd largest in the bronx ❤
awesome video! thanks, Tom!! p.s. i have a "the" bronx joke on my special! and you explained the "the" right at the top. fantastic!!
Tom D, my wife and I really enjoyed the Bronx Hisory Lesson. We enjoy all of your vdeos, and have learned so much. You should have been my History Teacher at De Witt Clinton High School, that w/be hard since I graduated in 1982(Sick Plug). Please do more Videos on the Bronx, and include Orchard Beach, Paddleball and The Bronx Community College.
I live in Morrisania stop of a big ol slab of Manhattan schizt Insert rim shit Lmao Anyway Was just about to look up some information considering this bedrock would be approximately a half billion years old and just as soon as I'm getting ready to do my search here comes your video! So I really enjoy this as with all the videos you post and once upon a Midnight dreary lead in was hilarious! Since that's as far as I got, back to the video
Thanx. Not going there today.
I love The Bronx is beautiful! We have the zoo and the beautiful botanical garden. ...etc etc

RIP Anton Cermak. He has a street named after him in Chicago. I would love if you could visit Chicago and do a video or two there?
Finally my hood! Greetings from Greeley_CO
Bro love ur humor 🤣😂🤣
Thank you from Idaho!
I swear this is the only guy i have ever heard of who looks far younger when unshaven and long hair. He looked older with the short hair and clean shaven. He actually looks better au naturel here. Excellent content and videos.
Yiu are the best keep up great work JEFE
Nice!
Great video and informative! You are right on the money! I recently have endured the nightmare of looking for an apartment in NY, in this astronimical housing crisis. I moved from Queens to Wakefield, in the Bronx. ( Can you do a video of Wakefield if you ever get a chance? Thank you!) Its actually a pretty safe neighborhood and its very residential and quiet, with beautiful homes and friendly locals. I feel completely safe here and definitely got more for my money! ( Don't get me wrong rent is still not cheap, but most definitely doable. Paying 1600. for a one bedroom) These days that's an afordable monthly rent in NYC. ( Crazy times!)
In like Flynn! Love this one! Da best!
Great tour! Can you share the history of South Jamaica Queens?
SOBRO !
No Fort Apache?
Interesting!
Is there a source to the FDR assassination attempt in the Bronx? I can't seem to find anything online that talks about an assassination attempt on FDR in the Bronx. Thanks!

For those who don’t know: St. Ann is said to be the mother of the Virgin Mary. There is no mention of this in the bible. Stories from the early Christian centuries claim Mary's parents are named Ann and Joachim. Gouverneur Morris Jr. named the church after his mother Ann, who likely may have been named after St. Ann.

Yes it is safe in the daytime. 1520 is in a super residential/underwhelming section of the Bronx that isn't considered the South Bronx to anyone familiar with the Bronx.
Bronx with a *X* , not Y or Z, X R.I.P. Tomz 5:54 Needlessly and senselessly put down in his prime. As friends said: " Lad, going up there, don't believe that's such a good idea. You're not even wearing socks ... " Wha? He's still around ? Never mind
@tomdnyc- Governor Morris, who's signature is on the Declaration of Independence owned what is now Morrisania,Port Morris,Morris Heights,Morris Park. The Morris family built the first major railroad in America. Started in the South Bronx- first tracks laid can be seen coming over the bridge from Manhattan- linked to every railroad in the United States. Governor Morris is buried in the Drake Park Cemetary in Hunts Point- East,South Bronx. There's some Bronx history for you
It's crazy how nobody really speaks on redlining. Glad he touched on that subject.
Please consider interviewing families in neighborhoods. Very rare are there videos of families speaking of family orientation and activities 😢
Ive Been to the Bronx and it looked like a saints row location 😂.
I'm surprised you didn't speak about the former Children's Orphanage that is DIRECTLY ACROSS from the Andrew Freedman retirement home. The retirement home was for wealthy elderly people who had no family to live with not the destitute but either way love the video. Ps. I've been INSIDE of the Andrew Freedman home, and his former office was preserved. It looks like a scene out of the movie "The Time Machine." If you go to the Bronx, you have to see it. It's AWESOME. 👍🏾👍🏾
missed the older courthouse on st anns ave.
South Bronx is probably the most affordable or the least unaffordable part of NYC.
I grew up a block from the Andrew Friedman home
Cool
