When I was a kid my dad had a friend who was a mail carrier on a rural route. There was one mailbox he would stop at where sometimes a toad would come out from the grass and just sit there watching him. It got to the point where he would call the toad and it would come to him. I wouldn't have believed this story if I hadn't seen it for myself. He ended up taking the toad home and letting it go in the bushes around his house. It would come when he called and just sit next to him.

As a kid, there was a toad that lived in our front yard, often in the sprinkler holes. My dad would go outside to tend to the roses at the break of dawn, and he would call “Toby”. I swear Toby would sit on the mat next to my dad. It was the cutest thing. Lol.

Frogs can live up to 10, to 12 years. 14 years if they don't have children.

*quick story! I bought my son his first pellet gun last Christmas... Anyways, he has become quite the great shooter... Each day, he usually shoots around 2-4 toads from around our pond! So now we have a ton of toads around... but it’s just their lifeless bodies, because my son has shot them all!*

lol I love how they always close their eyes and sometimes even wink when they swallow. Also the shape of their eye ridges make them look perpetually pissed off, and it's so hilariously cute.

Frogs use their Eyes to push the Food down into their stomachs, that's why they wink when they Swallow, because their Eyes are a part of the process.

She's really cute😍 I never even thought about frogs or any amphibians having a personality till a little spring peeper frog showed up in my bathroom 2 years ago and never left! I didn't mess with him much at first, just watched him- he'd sit in my window sill or on the window and sun himself, or go get wet in the bathtub, and hide wherever most of the time. Then we had a real cold snap and there wasn't any bugs and he got thin so I started catching bugs for him-- THEN I found out he liked music, and would trill and sing along with me on certain songs! That's actually how I found him a couple times when he ventured into my house and got lost( before I put up the magnetic curtain to keep him in the one section of my bathroom)- I would call, trill, then sing to him, and he'd trill and sing back😀 He's to the point now that I can call his name( Mr Peepers😁) and trill and he ANSWERS me!!! I have no idea what we're talking about, but sometimes we have entire conversations this way! He's so adorable!!!😍💜

あれアンバーさん少し瘦せた？と思ってたら、他の子たちと並ぶとやっぱり大きかった😂他の子達もぴよさんをみつめてくるけど、アンバーさんの見つめ方は別格の可愛さなんだよなぁ🥰

That's what my boy Kiwi does (unusually large male fowler's toad). He jumps out of his vivarium to splat on the ground. Aug 27 was our 2-year anniversary from when I rescued him to now. He uses to starve himself at an inch long but now he eats everything from thawed, canned or live bugs to repashy meat pie and chicken hearts at 2.75". His grumpy face seems like he wants to take over the world 😂

They are so adorable and beautiful. I love frogs and toads. They are my favorite animal. I fell in love with them as a child. I found tadpoles and my mom helped me catch a few and we raised them. They are smart creatures, I trained my toads to be patient and set for their food. They learned not to try to eat my hands. They also played ball together with a small rubber band ball I made. The male's seemed more active than the female's too so they were easier to train. Also, I used a spray bottle to moisten my hands before and while I handled them. Our skin is like a sponge and it can take away their moisture. I didn't handle them very often, I let them choose. They were loud when they wanted my attention too. It was like having a chorus of toads. It was beautiful. ☺️❤️

This video made my day! I have loved toads since I was a toddler! It was even noted in my baby book, “She loves toads!“ I love how kind and gentle you are with your toads and how they trust you enough to eat from your hand or from a spoon! Amazing! I can tell that they are all very well fed, much loved, and very well taken care of. I love how they close and retract their eyeballs to help them swallow. Amber truly seems to love you & probably wants you to hold her. Two of the cutest things I ever saw regarding toads were the following: many years ago I had an electric bug zapper hanging on my back patio to help control mosquitoes. When I would go out there after dark, I would see a large herd of about 20-30 toads sitting underneath the bug zapper waiting for the zapped bugs to fall to the ground for an easy meal. They are so incredibly smart! Sadly once they saw me, they scattered and hid. The other cute thing I saw was at another house I lived in. I had a very bright vapor light that came on every night when it got dark outside, and one night as I was getting out of the car, I saw a toad crouched down like a cat waiting to pounce on its prey. I stopped to watch and saw the toad slowly creeping closer to the bug that it was targeting, just like a cat does! I never knew that they did that, so it seems that they understand how far their sticky tongue will reach to catch a bug and know that if they are out of range, they must creep in closer to catch it.

We’ve had a toad porch friend all summer. We named him Larry. We mostly see him on our security camera, but if we’re up late or early we can visit with Larry in person. He’s never acted afraid of us, and he’s been happily eating bugs all summer. Toads are adorkable 😊
