I knoooow! This is why I call it Renfeng, as he doesn't love Dan Heng; he wants Dan Feng. Dan Feng is never coming back. Even Dan Heng keeps saying that he may remember some details about the past, but it is more like he is viewing someone else's memories than his own. I can't ship Dan Heng with Blade, as Blade will always compare him to Dam Feng. He would always be in someone else's shadow, and that is so tragic and sad for Dan Heng. I feel it is best for both of them to move on. They are basically tragic exes who didn't want to break up, but one of them is gone, but it is made more complicated because one of their species means they are reborn as a new person who looks a LOT like their past incarnation, making it hard to differentiate between them, especially if you are hurting already. Dan Heng is basically a stranger to Blade; he knows nothing about him. He made Dan Heng's new life after hatching a hell of constantly running from him without truly understanding why. Remember, They are hatched as CHILDREN so tiny Dan Heng was just reborn, and he spent it alone in the dark before having to run from a man wanting you gone, comparing you to someone you don't know, to you and your species culture, an entirely DIFFERENT person...but he just sees a shadow, an echo of a past you can't return to. It hurts; it's tragic, but he won't listen to you. He shouts that you are hiding and running from your sins and won't face your past, but to you, you aren't THEM; you are not that person, but the other is hurting too and won't see you for you. It is why I think when he met the Astral Express, he finally found a home. a place where the people won't compare him to a fragment that isn't him; he can just be Dan Heng, a young adult, and have friends and a family; he doesn't have to constantly deal with others seeing Dan Feng when they look at him; Dan Feng's shadow won't cloud his around these people. They see HIM, so it was so emotional when he told March, 'It is still me', as he isn't Dan Feng, no matter how he looks, he is Dan Heng! I imagine it is similar if you have a famous parent or sibling. People constantly compare you to them, and even if you scream and shout that you are NOT them, they won't let you forget it. They won't let it go. You walk in their shadow. It isn't fair to Dan Heng that he has to bear it when, basically, in his species, Dan Feng was kind of like his 'parent' in the sense he gave 'birth' to him, as their species don't have children; they just get reborn from eggs when they get old or harmed beyond repair. They consider each rebirth as a new person, unburdened by the shackles of the sins of their past selves. as they hold no or very few and fragmented memories of their past selves. Needless to say, their lore makes me cry. I can't ship them in the present, but the ship in the past seems beautifully tragic. It is a tragedy!

I can't see them having a happy ending at all unless Blade comes to see Dan Heng as his own person and not who he was. Dan Heng and Dan Feng are undoubtedly different, even if they share some similarities, as Dan Heng had an entirely different upbringing than Dan Feng. We know from a story that I feel kind of mirrors RenFeng. You know the quest with Cong? the guy who built machines to make poetry to win a girl's love? Well, in that quest, we find out he has been reborn three other times, and he is now on his fourth hatching rebirth. In all his lives, he has fallen in love with the same girl over and over again, and since she was a Xianzou native, she lived through all his lives...until she couldn't handle losing him over and over and now rejects him as she says her heart has grown still and she is too old to love him again. It is hinted she still cares but can't take losing him again, and she is now very old and probably close to Mara, and unlike him, she won't come back and most likely doesn't want him to bear to lose her like she has three times. as she kept the lock he gave her. We also know from this story that at each rebirth, he was a very different person with different goals and hobbies, but the one thing that remained was his true love for her. She now just wants to see him move on and be happy without her, as she cannot keep loving him for his sake or her own. They have to move on. It was a bittersweet ending and, in some ways, may hint at Blade and Dan Heng's past and how, for both their sakes, it may be best to move on. :''')

i think you're one of the few people that realized yingxing had hair covering his right eye (at least according to his trailer haha) in contrast to blade now with hair covering his left. gorgeous animation, i love how you drew the spider lily at the end! also the part with dan heng growing up at the beginning was very nice. ....this broke me into a million pieces haha. i can't believe i'm already attached to characters (and the high cloud quintet in general) that we still know so little about. Also to mention dan heng changes his fighting hand to try and escape from his past.which makes it sadder because he changed from right to left like blade😭

It's very painful know how this song is perfect for 'em. "I have died every day waiting for you" is exactly how Balde feel, cuz he try to die many time but at the end he recover always, he just wanted to be reunited with his lover.

You killed me with this one. my heart aches cuz their hearts ache. The story of Dan feng and yingxing throughout all of their iterations is so tragic. it’s painful to think about yet it’s beautiful. AND U CHOSE THE PERFECT SONG. Both of them are immortal beings so living thousands of years is in their futures. Even if Dan heng may look and have mannerisms similar to his past incarnation there is no getting Dan feng back no matter what. It’s probably hard on blade to see someone he once knew and cared about “die”. I suppose this is worse than death because their body may still exist but dan feng’s soul has been erased and a new soul has taken its place.. One of the reasons blade hates Dan heng so much might be because he blames him for taking away his close friend. He is hurting deep down underneath the effects of being mara-stricken.. I think that after Dan feng was punished for his sin (most likely making blade immortal) blade became Mara- stricken and it slowly corroded away his mind and sanity. Tingyun mentioned how people become Mara-stricken and it seems to work in a similar way. The poor man has a hard time keeping himself together whenever he is around Dan heng. Probably because seeing him opens up painful, old wounds from the past. 😢 Dan feng and yingxing are no more.. in a way they both died a long time ago. things have changed for the worse for the both of them. It’s so tragic.. 😭
