We’d like to thank Mr Mani for trusting our team and allowing us to document his journey thus far. In our time with him, we’ve come to witness the extraordinary strength, love and care he shows to everyone around him, even at his lowest moments. During filming, he shared with us that his wish of going to Universal Studios was actually for his daughter, and he was simply very excited to spend time with his family outside of the nursing home, just like they used to. It’s been a really powerful experience for us to have these conversations with him, and we’re glad that we could help capture his special day out with his family 🙂 It’s Mr Mani’s 49th birthday today on the 1st of May. If you’d like, do share your wishes for him in the comments, and we’d be sure to share it with him! - Yu En (OGS Producer)

This is why wanting to commit suicide or saying things like "omg life is pain i just want it to end" isn't cool or edgy. Somehow nowadays ppl like to glorify depression and killing themselves so they seem cool or quirky. It's not. It's devastating to the ones who actually care for you. And you're just taking the easy way out.

I came across this video today (1 May) by chance and was so moved to discover that it is his 50th birthday. So, if you can hear me, Mr Mani, Happy 50th birthday and may you find peace and joy every day. As someone who is only 2 years younger than him and with considerable personal and professional experiences interacting with chronically and terminally ill patients, I was able to relate to him at so many levels. Indeed, the difference in his successful world before he was ill and his current one is extraordinary and poignant. In one frame, we see photos of a healthy him in exotic and glamourous locations and in another, he is bedridden and depends on full time caregivers for all his essential needs. His story and struggles are powerful reminders to us not to lose sight of the things which truly (and eventually) matter - good health, family and loved ones.

idk should i say this but, I used to take care of him back when he was still in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital since i started working as an Agency Nurse 2 years back. When I first report for my first duty, he was sitting on his bed crying and even though I was feeling awkward, I took a tissue for him and sat and talk to him and soon we became closer with each other where I have helped him with his daily tasks and even basic care such as showering and changing of his diapers. I still remember him till today and after seeing this video being posted, it brings back so much memories I had with him that allows me to continue doing what I love doing since few years back. I remember all the laughs and jokes we had and he was always understanding and patience when knowing I had to take care of other 11 patients. To Mr Mani, you might not remember me but I really wish the best for you and your health and thank you for this opportunity to have cared for you during your difficult periods.

It makes me appreciate my situation more and more as I was still given an opportunity to carry on. I had to go through 2 surgeries, an orchiectomy and a L-RPLND , and 3 round of BEP chemotherapy. Every moment I spent in the ward, I saw uncles crying in pain, their wives and children by their side. It really made me open my eyes. I am lucky enough to be have been 23 going through all this as my body is able to recover smooth through all this. Could never imagine the elderly's pain. Please appreciate every moment you have in life. Remember that there's always someone who might be praying to be in your shoes as it would be better for them. My aunt is suffering from colon cancer and is terminally ill. She’s in her mid-50s and the doctors said she would have 3-6 months left. It’s been 2 months already. When she found out the news of her illness, she found it hard to accept. “I don’t wanna die yet. I still have things I want to do, I don’t want my life to be over,” she said in tears. She has three children, the youngest being 16. As of now, she’s spending her remaining days in our hometown. She told my mom to take care of my kids once she passes away, and told my uncle to stop drinking and smoking so much, though my uncle never listened. My aunt has been really brave, still smiling despite the pain. Our family will probably never spend Christmas again with her this year, or her birthday which is still later in the year. It’s been devastating and hard. I’m currently far away from her because I’m studying abroad. I wish I could be there with her, she’s so nice and kind, always checking up on whether I’ve eaten my meals or whether I got home safely. I plan to return soon, and I really hope I could see her smile in-person at least one more time. Thank you for sharing your story, you are so brave. I wish you and your family all the best. ❤️

My colleague was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and took time away from work to seek treatment. After 4 months we received news that he was to be transferred to palliative care, which meant he didn't have much time left. We quickly made plans to visit him but he passed on 2 days later. It was a shock for all of us, more so for his wife who was his main caregiver to come to terms with her loss. Sincerely hope that Mr Mani's remaining days will be happy and as painless as possible. ❤ Stay positive, stay strong and I hope you live out the rest of your time to the fullest.
