A tale of three steam trams

Ғылым және технология

Three steam tram locomotives working over the Craigcorrie & Dunalistair Railway.
These are: a Fourdees RTR Glyn Valley Tramway 'Sir Theodore', a Tebee Models freelance saddle tank, and my old freelance tram loco 'Marijn' originally built 35 years ago, all in 009.
A steam sound track was edited using Virtualdub and Audacity. This was substituted for the original track.

    That is such a beatiful layout, especially the main green station looks absolutly superb. Makes me very jealous you know haha. You truly have such an amazing eye for detail, and have inspired me to add a small narrow gauge subsection to my layout, where large express locomotive can transition at a station for narrow gauge locomotives to carry passengers to a small wharf/ beach. Thank you!

    Excellent layout set.... It seems that one doesn't need 45 cars behind a loco to give realism... although 45 cars is a nice deal... no doubt. - The only question I have is this: Is it true that locomotives... especially older ones... can only go forwards?

    I make up a sound track using Audacity to mix various sources. This is timed to the video using Virtualdub, which takes about one hour's work for each minute of video. After the sound track is completed, I remove all the original sound from the video and substitute the new track.

    What a beautiful layout! Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between a steam team and a steam train?

  • @tedpolet5431

    @tedpolet5431

    A steam tram was the predecessor of an electric or diesel-powered tram, usually running next to or in a public highway.

  • @tedpolet5431

    @tedpolet5431

    The freelance saddle tank was made from a 3D printed body shell designed by Tom Bell (Tebee Models). It is indeed loosely based on a Kerr Stuart.

    Mind if I inquire about the motor? I'd like to get into 009, and don't know where to start in terms of locomotives.

  • @tedpolet5431

    @tedpolet5431

    The saddle tank is powered by a Kato 11-104 chassis. The model was made for an 11-103, which is slightly shorter but has the same power unit. The side skirts hide the unnatural wheelbase.

    Are these trams ?? Or Railway Engines ??

  • @tedpolet5431

    @tedpolet5431

    4 жыл бұрын

    You could say they are small railway locomotives, but they were made for roadside work. For safety reasons the rods and cranks were shielded with skirts. Due to their working alongside or in the public road they were known as steam trams.
