I think you would like The October Society by Christopher Robertson It’s like a novel and short story collection with a cool writing style, it’s about a group of friends that tell each other scary stories every night leading up to Halloween. But it’s written like a tv show with “cut to” “fade in” “roll credits” and there’s commercials or breaking news in the middle of the “episodes” (chapters). I think the first book is the best out of the trilogy. But you should go into the book blind ❤️

I can totally understand your feelings on one perfect couple. I gave it a 4 star. I liked it more than the only other Ruth Ware I had read (can't remember the name but there is a Tarot reader who gets told her long lost granny died. She thinks its a mistake but she needs the inheritance). I agree the end didnt feel like a twist and I dont know that it added much to the book (but did explain why it was such an amateur set up maybe).

I liked One Perfect Couple on audio because Imogen Church is the best- I do hope Ruth Ware goes back to more mystery books than thriller.

I think one perfect couple may have worked a bit better for people if it had been advertised/marketed as a survival story and not a reality show mystery/thriller. I was also hoping for the latter instead of the former

Ruth Ware has been a miss lately. I'm halfway through Stuart Turton's The last murder at the end of the world and I'm quite enjoying it. It's post-apocaliptic kinda weird mystery, it takes time for the mystery to happen, but you should give it a try.

Super curious to hear your thoughts on A Novel Love Story. After LOVING The Dead Romantics and really liking Seven Year Slip, I had super high hopes for this one and ended up really disappointed. Hope your experience with it is better than mine! 😅

Like everyone, I got mad love for the duck!! I also had to say...Sharknado. I am one of so, so, so many in the cult following of those movies. In general, I am a pretty reliable fan of _meant to be_ stupid, bad movies. I think it's such fun and Sharknado makes one cringe and laugh in best way. If you thought it was stupid fun, then give the others a try. I will say that by the time we got to the last one - I don't know - they were taking a wrong turn or it just went that one inch too far. I'm not sure but I didn't have as much fun with that one. I hope you don't mind; I felt like this was a good time and place to come out - right here in your comment section - as a goofy Sharknado fan.

this might be the first ever ruth ware that i skip! i've felt so incredibly meh about her last few books. zero days was suchhh a drag. the it girl?? at LEAST three hundred pages too long. i really miss her old stuff!

No but Sharknado is a cinematic masterpiece and they just get better (“better”) you HAVE to continue the series (at one point they include Back to the Future, Starwars, etc!)

I am one of those people that really enjoyed One Perfect Couple. The setting became a character, like in The Death of Mrs. Westaway (my fav of Ware's). After hearing reviews, I was afraid it would be like One by One, which I hated. I knew who did it in the first chapter and read endless descriptions of snow. So glad all books aren't for me or the reading world would be pretty boring. Love how relaxed you looked on your vacation. Did you name the duck? I was thinking Herbert, Donald seems too obvious. Huge thanks for the reviews.
