Ойын-сауық

I was excited to learn that a new RPG Maker was released. This time it's not a standalone app, but an addon to Unity game engine. RPG Maker UNITE - Let's check it out!

Updates won't fix the most fundamental problems. For some reason, instead of using the built-in Unity animators, they seem to have created their own character animators (they could have used the time to focus on fixing other things.) They also seemed to have developed their own collision system instead of using Unity's. They did both of those because instead of having the characters and event graphics exist as sprites that can interact with tile sprites, they put those things on a UI layer. That also means that you can't use URP to have cool light effects. You actually can use URP, but the lights will only affect the tilesets, not the characters or event graphics. The roadmap is a joke, and they've made it clear that they won't be involved in the forum, so they won't be using feedback from the community to improve things. Overall, I think the entire project was ill-conceived. They should have just focused on the successor to MZ.

The animations are only sprite changes so it makes sense to not use the Unity Animator also if the characters exist on an UI Canvas the Animator would refresh the whole canvas for every Animation step (although I don't get why the characters would be on a canvas unless it's because of the feature that you can use 3d models as character sprites and they get rendered in real time on the canvas but I thought they get rendered once when you set it up). The collision is grid based so it makes sense to make your own collision system because it saves a lot of performance if you only check the tiles next to you when you move instead of calculating a lot of intersections between box colliders every single frame and it's also more accurate.

You’re right the community will for sure pick up the pieces and make this iteration soar... like always with every version, the RM community is seriously the best

I believe adding a game engine that is easy to grasp like RPG maker within another like unity can be a good thing. It can help people both new to gamedev or returning through RPG maker series into the world of gamedev. In a fun and easy to grasp interactive way than simply just coding to hep get their feet wet in the gamedev world. I messed around a bit with RPG maker in my past years ago back on the 3DS. this was before my interest of gamedev skyrocketed so I had no idea what I wa doing. Now that I found a mentor on twitch that inspired to tackle gamedev. I've been learning python and plan on giving RPG maker another try now especially in unity down the road. I find this a great combination.

It's a great idea, but I think it requires some further development to make sense. As a experienced unity developer seeing this video, i am thinking i would possible just go without RPG Maker, i haven't seen anything that makes my work easier. The idea with assets and tools is to make the job easier, but if i can make my own tools or project faster, simpler without them i struggle to see why i should even consider it. But thanks for the review. ;)

Events are good, but when we try to make a new system, event is become more hard than unity scripts

I have refunded the rpg maker unite 2 weeks after it came out. It's a shame they released the software under such conditions. I understand that Unity is a bit more complex and advanced than other versions, But it is a real shame to go from seconds and instant actions of the old versions, to minutes and hours of waiting and more knowing that devs opens and edits the games thousands of times. The only thing that is honestly good is the interface and the possibility of being able to do things on multiple monitors. After that it's not worth it at all. Sadly I don't think it has a good ending.Let's hope they notice and make a new version accordingly.

What they should have done is automatically made it all in 3D not 2D shit.

not gonna spend $100 bucks. Ive been burned with Assets in the price range. Just wait until a major version comes out and you gotta fork out more money. In my opinion, it all boils down to you learning how to implement your own ideas in unity via c# programming. Ive purchased my last asset and decided to just learn how to do things. It may take awhile but its better than being at the mercy of an asset maker.
