I read that her falling with the Christmas tree was not in the script. Just before the scene was shot Constance Ford requested that the director order Sandra Dee's mother off the set with the excuse that she couldn't concentrate with Sandra's mother on the set. What was supposed to be a standard fake movie slap turned into an unexpected real live bitch slap causing Sandra to lose her footing and therefore had to grab the Christmas tree to break her fall. Constance Ford did apologize to Sandra but everyone could see that Constance maliciously took this opportunity to slap the shit out her young upstart costar. No wonder Constance Ford did not want Sandra's mother on the set when this was shot! Constance Ford planned this all along.

Better to let others disapprove of you and be with the person you love than have their approval but be alone or with someone you don't love. Her father told her, "Our one great purpose in life is to love and be loved. It is the sole reason for our existence." And I've never heard truer words.

Sandra Dee had apparently kept everybody waiting while talking to reporters so Constance was very irritated well waiting for the film to roll. I can't imagine Ada on another world, her signature role for 25 years, doing this to Rachel or Nancy as Ada was the antithesis of Helen Jorgensen. She was pointed out at a concert that Judy Garland gave, recognizing her in the audience and saying, I know you! I see you on my TV everyday! You're Ada! A few years later, Liza with a z had Liza singing that Ada even backwards would be Ada. 30 years after her death, Constance Ford is still remembered and beloved.

My mother did the same thing to me. Let the Dr. violate me. Naked from the waist down feet in stirrups while poking and prodding me and female inside body parts. I was a virgin. Had never even had a boyfriend. What a horrifying experience. It was a long quiet car ride to and from that doctor she never said a word never said why. So hurtful. She got a great job and abandoned me (all of us) my father and two sisters as soon as I started having periods. She started traveling to places all over the map. Cruise Ships Air Planes Trains. Then when I turned 45 she decided to tell me that my father raped her and that's how she got pregnant with me and my twin sister. And she didn't know she was having twins because he wouldn't take her to the doctor. And she also told everybody that he molested my older sister. That's when I said to her "What did you do Watch'? You were too lazy to walk to the Dr. You couldn't ask a neighbor for a ride? Call a cab? My dad was in the Air Force her prenatal care was free no out of pocket expense. Aside from all that drama. A Summer Place is my favorite movie of all time. I'm letting God deal with her. - kimie

This scene should have been in Mommie Dearest. I am sure a scene similar to this one must have taken place between Joan Crawford and Christina when Christina failed to send out her Christmas Card cards out on time.

The Christmas tree scene in Female Trouble was a lot funnier.
