A strange Airbag Suspension System Ep 1 - 1939 Hudson Rat Rod Part 11
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I start building an unusual airbag suspension system where torsion bars and cantilevers are involved. First I fabricate a new removable transmission mounting cross member. Next we install newly machined split bushes that will allow the torsion bars to rotate. This is the first video in a series about fabricating a front suspension airbag system based on the torsion bar wishbone suspension of pick-ups like Isuzu, Nissan Hardbody and Ford Courier.

Hey Boet. Lekka. Fine bit of engineering. This is how man progressed. And to think earliest man ever found not far from you. Lol. Think the Baboon was saying give me one of those Cancer sticks. Lol. He def give you the finger. Lol. Coming along Good. Chad's roof Chop coming along Good. You going to Chop yours. Thought you would have put the torsion bar in a roller bearing. My eyes thank you. You perfected it. Lekka Man. 100 percent better to watch. Have a good week Diff. Lekka Man Lekka. Adios.
@ratrodsafrica
Жыл бұрын
Yes, the origin of man right outside my door 😄. No chopping on this one, I think its perfect. I really don't think a bearing is necessary for that torsion bar. Less than half a turn is all that's required. Glad your eyes are happy, we try... Have a lekka one boet!

Maybe next time use a short travel air operated hydraulic ram using the factory torsions? That way your not running a spring (torsions) on a spring (bags). Cool overall idea though. Love the content.

Didnt want go with hydraulics for several reasons. We'll see how the spring on a spring business works out...😄

Div, this was a real good one. Your crossmember fab was top notch. The "instant" gussets was genius. I like the idea of the suspension too. It's unique for sure.

Holy cow man. At 21:20 you’ve got what looks like a spray can of F$*k on your bench. Where can I get that?!! I’ve got a few people I might like to spray THAT on! You have got to be the BEST fabricator channel on KZread right now. This is not really “bush” engineering. It is just damn good engineering for ANY place, bush or not. And your ability to explain it clearly and demonstrate things for us is really unparalleled. I am riveted to you every episode. Thanks as always for the great hang out. 😊

@@ratrodsafrica I enjoyed the attention to detail. The slant cuts instead of just leaving it blocky 90s at the end of your cross member and reinforcing the clearance cut outs for the torsion bars with the half cuts of pipe!!! Nice touch 😃

Een mooi detail zou zijn, dat je de moeren vast last aan de beugels, dat is heel makkelijk bij latere demontage van je subframe. Maar wat een goed idee voor de voor-ophanging.
@ratrodsafrica
Жыл бұрын
Dankie!
I think I would source two lengths of new spring steel of the correct length and replace the torsion bars rather than joining them. You have a friendly machinist who could cut the new splines on the ends, I think this would be the safest way to proceed.
@ratrodsafrica
Жыл бұрын
I think such a long torsion bar will be problematic. But, I have a plan for joining...
