A Story of a Week in a Small Swiss Village | Leukerbad, Switzerland

A story about exploring Leukerbad, focused on nature and budget friendly adventures. This small Swiss village is a hikers paradise, and full of surprises.
Just a few hour train ride from Interlaken or Zurich, this mountain destination had us charmed. The Swiss Alps indeed came alive with the sound of music (cow bells), the taste of cheese (fresh), and the unforgettable views of peaks surrounding the village.
Despite the amount of hiking in this video, it represents our quiet week of recovery from the Jungfrau Marathon. Switzerland is not known for being budget friendly, but this town actually had the cheapest accommodations we could find in any mountain town, and we were not ready to leave the Alps just yet.
Join us for this lighthearted adventure, and feel free to ask any questions about our time in Leukerbad, Switzerland.

Who are Collin and Meredith?
In August of 2023 we left our corporate jobs to find out what it is like to live around the world. The fall of 2023 was spent exploring Europe, visiting friends, and learning our “travel style”. These are those stories :).
Currently, we are living in South America for the next six months traveling at a much slower pace & LOVING it.
Follow our journey as we learn from different cultures, make friends, and attempt to put the puzzle pieces of our world together.
The goals of our trip/experiment:
1) Experience life on all 7 continents.
2) Find (and eat) the best Cinnamon Rolls on the planet.
3) Take as many slow and deep breaths as possible in beautiful places.
Thanks for watching!

In Austria when they have to rescue tourists from the mountain and they are wearing this kind of footwear they have to pay everything themselves.

@@collinandmeredith Popular areas are the Golden Circle, South Coast and Snaefellness. A hike along Laugavegur Trail would make a great video though only open in the summer. So much to see and explore. Camper van rental would be a great option. Play Airlines or Iceland Air get ya there. Rock on!

why all these cowbells? It's actually quite simple. Cows wear these bells, especially in the Alpine mountains, so that farmers can find their cows and certain predators like bears and wolves stay away from the ringing of the bells. Experienced farmers listen when they're searching for cows to see if one is missing and whether their cow is injured because the ringing of the bells makes it sound different when it's no longer walking normally. If they don't hear any bells ringing from a cow they're looking for, they usually know straight away that the cow is probably no longer alive, i.e. has died from a fall, in most cases in the mountains/Alps....And they immediately go and check the critical, dangerous places where a cow could have fallen, based on the farmers' experience. That's why they have these bells! And these bells are relatively small! There are bells that they hang around cows and bulls at certain times that are 3-4 times bigger than your head!!! Greetings from Central Switzerland (Lucerne) 🇨🇭🤗🤘🏼

Thank you so much for the explanation on the bells! That makes so much sense. Especially that farmers can tell when a cow is injured by the sound of the bell! Thanks for watching and sharing that ❤️🐮
