It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea; But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsman came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me- Yes! - that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we- Of many far wiser than we- And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee. For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride, In the sepulchre there by the sea, In her tomb by the sounding sea. by Edgar Allan Poe Other poems of POE (68) A Dream Within A Dream Alone The Raven See More Comments (484) Sleinez RobedilloYesterday forever my favourite! You know, I felt a weird hint of hatred or anger, or even dark possession lurking in the background when you sing... The same kind that you sense when you're reading Poe's poem Alone. It came from the way that you treated words with music, folk like but not as predictable. Esther perel with me overwhelmed to hear your version I'm sure. It's too bad we have no recording of his voice.

Would you be willing to send me an MP3 of this song? I find it to be very beautiful. I'm trying to memorize this poem for a play I am auditioning for, and music helps so I don't memorize the inflection of other actors. I've looked up published songs such as Stevie Nicks, but I can't focus on them as well and I don't enjoy them as much. So if you're willing to share, I'd really love that. 🙂 This is an awesome project, I can't believe the talent some people are able to establish independently so early on. This is really great for a school project.

A very nice effort. One minor thing -- for the next time you record it -- there were two pronunciation issues. The main one was "sepulcher", which is accented on the FIRST syllable. The second, much less important, is "wingèd "which, in this case, is to be pronounced as TWO syllables (indicated by Poe's writing it with the accent).

  • @lauraras7601

ReallY ? This is poetry, lyrics remember ...no such thing as "wrong accent"...it´s the artist´s choice.

@@lauraras7601 I do believe in a great deal of freedom for artists, esp. when it's their own lyrics, etc., and they are clearly, knowingly, making a choice (e.g., a wordplay). But surely people can misunderstand a word they are trying to use or pronounce, and that applies as much to artists as to anyone else.
