Rafael Puyana, outstanding player and musician of my country and pretty forgotten here too. I admire his art since my earlier adolescence in the 80s decade

For me this is the definitive version. I like the reprise of the introduction - most others don't do that. It is like a time warp, a better feeling than the abrupt ending most others do. Puyana's 1968 recording was very different, with interestingly different voicing and no reprise. On the jacket notes, he said that just because music is old, it "need not wear a wig". In this 1990 recording, he put the wig back on, and gave it this rich sound.

Upon studying all the interpretations of this magnificent composition attributed to El Padre Antonio Francisco Javier Soler Ramos, I have selected this performance of Puyana's as one my most cherished examples of the Gran Fandango. Listen to his impeccable phrasing, embellishing sumptuous arabesque flavors, captivating not only the ear but one's foot as well. Spanish Music is Dance Music, indeed. As a Spanish Classical and Flamenco guitarist who has accompanied great Spanish dancers throughout my career, Puyana enthralls my very heart and soul. The build up, at the final, is explosive making us all jump to our feet to dance ....." El Fandango Clásico de España ". ( Nicolau de Figuierdo's final with glorious rasqueados ...a flamenco gypsy technique....is sumptuously lavish at the end ) Listen.....Feel...."El Fandango" !...“Doirígete hacia lo Alto hacia el Cielo…. Conducir con un Dedo del Pie Imperial”.....as only the Spanish can render......then..... dance into the night. "Viva Maestro Puyana....Nos Despertaste…." Su Majestad... ¡Aprueba! " Espanolissima ! VIVA ! ( One issue remains with Puyana's interpretation....why does he begin that piece with a few bars all over again..... then cuts it short ending his performance? Strange )

It's really interesting how Rafael Puyana has different interpretations of this piece, this one is pretty different in comparison of another recording that I heard.

Exactement mon avis; (pas tout entendu, loin de là, mais tellement supérieure aux 3 ou 4 autres testées); En outre la prise de son est idéale, sans ferraillage de l'instrument ni de réverb (insupportable chez Ross).
