Asuka Taniguchi, born on November 1, 1977, in Tokyo, stands at 150cm and weighs 50kg. She is a third-degree black belt holder and represents Japan in the kata discipline at the 13th World Karate Championship to be held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on October 14-15, 2023. Her journey is an inspiring one, as she joined the Shinkyokushinkai at the age of 28, excelled in both Kata and Kumite divisions, and fought against the younger generation at national tournaments. At the age of 45, she finally earned the opportunity to compete as the Japanese representative in the kata category at the World Championship, aiming to become the inaugural world champion.

She has an impressive track record, including multiple victories in the Karate Dream Festival (2012, 2019, 2020, 2022) in the Kata category and safety division, as well as several wins in the Senior Kumite Championship (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023).

The 13th World Karate Championship is scheduled for October 14th and 15th, 2023, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. The kata division competition will begin at 10:00 AM on October 14th.
