A sneak peek at how LOWA repairs and reconditions a backpacking boot

Boots in LOWA’s Backpacking and Trekking, classic construction collections can be re-soled and repaired, so you can keep your beloved boots going for many more years!
The boots are sent to our factory in Germany where they were originally produced. In addition to resoling the boot, LOWA will provide new footbeds, new shoelaces, and recondition the leather. LOWA will also inspect the boots and repair stitching, hooks, eyelets and the heel lining, if needed. Find out more information from the LOWA distributor in your country. the old style military boots lowa made was the best boots i ever wore . these new range of boots are nothing in comparison . i own the hunter and mountain gtx . complete let down 500 pounds spent to only get wet feet . these boots are great if you only wear them on a day walk . i would not advise walking in wet grass or rain more than a couple of hours .

In LOWA Europe they explain, "... that is normal, that the sole after a few years dissolves. Crumbles apart". There was neither an offer of a new soling nor was interested in finding another solution. Therefore never again LOWA.

I don't know which model you own, but the soles can't be changed on every models. On cheaper models like the renegade, the soles are directly injected directly onto the boot, which make a really solid bound for cheap. The downside with that process is that the midsole is ''fused'' with the boot and can't be taken off easily. On higher end models like the tibet and other backpacking and mountaineering boots the midsole is cemented (glued) and can be easily removed by heating the glue (as you can see in the video). Also, it's normal that the PU midsole start to crumble after a couple of years if the boots aren't worn often or if their stored in a humid place. Humidity will be absorbed by the PU and will build up which will degrade it in the long term. Wearing the boots often help to ''pomp out'' the humidity from the midsole and keep it from degrading. Try asking a local shoe repair store to do the resoling, they might be able to do something about it, even tho it's harder to resole an injected sole, I've heard it was doable. Best of luck!

antoine clément it can be taken off, but big companies do not want to bother with it, because it takes abit of effort. but its 100% doable

most hiking boots use polyurethane mid soles which when reacting with moisture eventually crumble. Look for hiking boots which have an EVA midsole since that doesnt happen to it. alot of cobblers prefer using EVA when resoling so thst would help the shoes last longer

My sole lasted almost 13 years. I wrote it about 90 days a year in varying conditions. Desert, tropics, mountains, etc. Always took good care of it. One day the front of the sole tore away from the leather. The rubber of the vibram monowrap was getting a bit harder, profile was almost gone, but i was still happy with using them for long drives and easy walks.

Just threw my second pair away after the first pair broke apart after wearing them less than ten times renegade gtx soles disintegrated so thought I’d give them another try. Bought a pair a month ago Jan 9th to be exact. Yesterday the trash man took them away after the soles were falling apart again after wearing them about ten times. Never again it’s amazing a company can Mfg a shoe that breaks down that fast. Walmart sells a better product for the money.

Nice advertisement. BUT Lowa boots are poor quality! I have a pair of Lowa hiking boots, and last week while hiking in Norway the soles of both boots started to fall off within 15 minutes of each other. At the end the soles were only attached at the tip of the boot. The problem is apparently caused by a natural degradation of the polyurethane material that is used in the midlayer of the boot. So by using an inapropriate material (for hiking once or twice a year which many people do) Lowa are purposefully building in degradation in their product. And they will NOT repair or replace your boots, only sell you new ones. Do yourself a favour and find a serious boot manufacturer. I'll newer buy Lowa again.
