A smoother, quieter AR-15? The SMB from Armaspec.
Спорт
The Sound Mitigation Buffer(SMB) was created to eliminate some of the noise that comes from the buffer/buffer spring, and also just create a slightly smoother cycle for your action. If you're looking to upgrade your buffer system, this is a really nice and inexpensive way to do it!

Similar to the JP Silent capture system. I have the JP on three of my rifles. This type of buffer system greatly reduces the noise inherent in AR-15 & AR-10 operations (as well as smoothing the buffer cycling). I wouldn’t build another AR platform rifle without the JP Silent Capture System or the Armaspec SMB.

I'm new. Why would you have different weights for different situations?
@sciji3118
8 ай бұрын
@@FogGoblinidk if anyone answered you so I'll try, the biggest thing is reliability which is assured by most companies by making the weapon over gassed on purpose, this means that it can also cause damage over time and the way you tell if it's overgassed is the ejection pattern. Ejection pattern is when firing the cartridge case is ejected and bounces off the deflector behind the ejection port, if it's bouncing off more forward of the ejection port than 3 o clock to 430ish o clock it's overgassed which can be mitigated by adding weight to buffer. If cartridges are bouncing off the deflector behind the 3 o'clock position it's likely under gassed or you should lower the weight in the buffer until it's at 3 o'clock position otherwise it's gonna take more than weight. Everything you could ever really learn without doing the things with the things can be learned right here on YT so you're in the right place so do your research and enjoy tinkering. Also, the best buffer system for the money I've seen so far is by strike industries it's a kit that comes with everything and they sell upgraded springs too if I'm not mistaken.

The only issue I ran into was this. A POF 7 position buffer tube. I didn't realize it's just a little longer. So, the 308 version would drop to far in. What I did. Cut some buffer spring coils , just enough to full the gap. welded 2 washers to the spring. Placed it in first and then the armspec buffer in and locked it in. It let's the entire process smoothly work and doesn't bottom out...

Just bought the SMB Gen3. Although it DOES eliminate the annoying“twang” you get with a standard buffer spring, it is EXTREMELY difficult to remove from the buffer tube. The hammer is in the way and you have to force it out pretty hard. Still not sure I’m keeping it but it works fine.

By hammer do you mean buffer detent?I want to buy one but really don't have the time for the bullshit just to get the twang to go away...
@danefuentes3877
7 ай бұрын
No, I’m referring to the hammer that strikes the firing pin. The detent is an inconvenience at most. But due to the fact that the SMB is a solid steel rod, it doesn’t bend out of the way the buffer and spring does. You can kind of see it in this video @1:45. In the video, the SMB buffer is resting on top of the hammer. However, once it is installed, when you try to remove the SMB, the bolt-side face of the SMB buffer rests against the back of the hammer when it is cocked and it takes some serious elbow grease to get it past the hammer. Uncocking the hammer doesn’t help either because then it just becomes even taller.
@carterm3301

Well big dog I guess that’s true but as long as you don’t have a dimpled backing ring you can also just back out the buffer tube which I guess would take more time but could be less of a headache.

@@loviticuss I have an aero precision lower and that is the first thing I tried. Not enough post-travel to allow the SMB to come out of the buffer tube. The buffer tube is almost in line with the top of the lower receiver. If YOUR hammer goes down far enough to let the SMB out of the buffer tube, something is probably broken. WIth all due respect, do you actually own an SMB, or are you just spitballing here? So far, I've decided to keep it in but it's still not any easier to remove. It's not something I clean that often anyway so it should be fine.

I didn't particularly care for a quieter action, I wanted the 2 stage system to reduce that heavy recoil from the buffer bottoming out, and i wanted more reliable feeding. I'm gonna have to do some more shooting with it but the difference in felt recoil is really noticeable. However much like you, I immediately noticed it caused more damage to my brass, it almost shows signs of increased pressure on the rim of the cartridge which is really strange. I think this issue would be solved by armaspec simply making a stronger spring available to replace the first "stage" long spring. Can you adjust the length? I had to unscrew my tube to get it to seat. Any better way?
Too many words. Simply stated: It's a captive spring that's smaller than the diameter of the housing but larger than the guide rod it sits on. Thus, none of the points that're compressing can encounter friction ... and it's the friction that creates that nasty noise. You can of course "tighten" the stock buffer spring to make the radius smaller by exceeding the elastic deformation into plastic deformation. But this product looks well made, to better tolerances. It's Gucci. Enjoy it.
Which weight should I use with my 300 blackout, 10” SBR, pistol length gas tube?
